Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. does Canon 17mm ts-e lens vignette?

A: I have been using the 17 ts-e for about a year and I have yet to have a problem with vignette with using the lens as is. I have shot mostly commercial buildings... interior and exterior in bright and low lighting conditions and this lens has been excellent. I have this mounted on a full frame Canon 5D II The only time I have experienced any vignetting was when adding the Lee filter system and it was made clear by Lee that I would have a bit of edge vignette with this setup. Good luck and you will love this lens!

Q: 2. Will this work on Canon R-mount cameras with the EF adapter?

A: Absolutely! The TS-E 17mm f/4L will work wonderfully with the EF-RF adapter.

Q: 3. Does this lens somehow let the user know if the photo is in focus? Is there something that blinks? I am shooting with a 5D Mark IV. Thanks!

A: Hi Austin. This is a manual focusing lens. The blink will occur with auto focusing lenses. This lens is intended to be used with a tripod and stopped down a bit (f/8.0) should work. Use the manual focus ring to set the distance. With the aperture stopped down on a 17mm lens just about everything in the frame should be in focus.

Q: 4. Is this holder compatible with Tamron 15-30 G2?

A: Yes, the holder is compatible with the G2 version.

Q: 5. Lens hood included or is this lens to be used with the glass exposed like that?

A: The lens has no hood or filter ring. You must use it with Lee or other filter holders. The lens is strictly manual focus, manual exposure and is best used with a 1 deg. spot meter. You can rotate the tilt and the shift so both can be used in different orientations. Somewhat like the front of a view camera.

Q: 6. Is this lens compatible with either the Canon Rebel XSi and/or Canon EOS 5D Mark III cameras? Thanks!

A: Yes, this lens is fully compatible with the Canon XSi and 5D Mk III cameras, and any other Canon EOS Digital or Film SLR cameras.

Q: 7. Does this lens come with an instruction manual or just a one page generic instruction sheet that covers all Canon lenses? ( my came with the one page generic sheet)

A: The lens does not come with an instruction manual. Most manufacturers are only putting manuals onto their website to download instead of printing and shipping them with products.

Q: 8. Is there anyone out there who has used it on the new Sony Ar7II with the metabones adapter? What is your experience? Sharpness, auto anything work?

A: You could use this with the A7R II using an adapter like those from Metabones.

Q: 9. Do these (17mm TS) come with an instruction manual or just a generic instruction sheet that covers all canon lenses( that's what mine came with)?

A: The best information I have found has been on YouTube. Do a search for tilt shift lens and go from there.

Q: 10. This holder can also mount on RF 28-70 f/2?

A: The Benro Master Series 150mm Filter Holder for Canon 14mm f/2.8L II USM Lens is not compatible with Canon RF 28-70mm f/2 L USM Lens BH #CA28702LRF.

This is my favorite lens for interior photography, whether I'm shooting expansive or closet-size spaces. The price is steep, but it's an investment with high yields. Using this lens cuts down on constantly having to adjust the height of the tripod. With my tripod fully extended to 72 inches I can include soaring ceilings as well as the floor. In kitchens, I can have the tripod high enough so you can't see under the unfinished underside of cabinets, yet still show lower cabinets, ovens, flooring. After using it for two years, I had it serviced, and while it was gone I realized how much I missed it. I used my 16-35, a frustrating experience that worked, but to get verticals vertical, I had way too much ceiling, so I ended up shooting almost everything at 16mm and cropping the ceiling and sides down in post to retain aspect ratio, adding unnecessary time to my workflow. I am so happy I spent the money, the results are fabulous, not only in workflow, but in beautiful photos.

This is an optical and mechanical marvel.
The Tilt-Shift controls are exceptionally versatile.
The Tilt and the Shift can set independently or coupled together.
This makes changing from horizontal to vertical format simple.
A tripod is advised in almost all situations as is very small umbrella to shield the bulbous front lens element.

A must if you do any architecture photography, amazing quality, sharpness and at times it feels like sorcery to be able to control perspective and focal planes the way you can with this lens. Saves time and pixels at post processing.

These two photos was taken in one frame shot - not in five frames then stitch later. It was taken around 5:30PM in Long Island NY. I am challenging myself into taking my photographs AS IS, without heavy editing in the end of the shot (only touched contrast, exposure and thats it). This lens performs well for me, and in the long run this lens will save me a lot of time editing for i can correct distortions in the field immediately. I heard there are people using this lens for portraitures and landscape and they produced amazing work. The price will compensate the use in the long run and the lens was built to last. I advise people to have external monitor for composing for the built-in camera monitor is getting smaller every year. The lens is a prime lens, a mechanical equipment manual all the time, i consider this a machine built with metal and glass - not automatic/electronic lens. This lens moves in three different directions, tilt, shift, and rotate --X, Y and Z axis, in aviation roll, pitch and yaw. The thing negative is it doesnt come with hood for protection in the field you have to be very extra-careful for the glass protrudes out of the barrel. When i go out for shoot the positive effect is the lens is so obviously protrudes and the people respect you immediately for they think you are a living legend in photography, LoL. You can actually hear people from the background say "shht move back the guy is serious look at the lens. Is that a lens?" the bleeding wallet will heal right away. The lens cap was poorly designed for an expensive lens. The lens is remarkably beautiful, engineered and well-built to last.

Great lens. Clean, sharp and very wide. I thought I would miss not having auto focus but I haven't. All of the tilt / shift knobs have lots of range and are easy to control and lock. No issues.

Outstanding on 5Ds and 5D Mkiii. The TS-E 17 is pretty wide to start with however adding tilt and shift has made this my go to landscape lens. Also a bit of leaning shooting close up.

I just bought the lens and have not used it yet but I have rented other TSE 17mm in the past and for compromised vantage points and tight interiors, it is a great lens to have. As an architectural photographer, I not very keen on the amount of distortion that comes with very wide lenses but its either that or, at times, not getting the shot that you need.
