Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the 30mm macro take filters ???? Jim

A: Agree, it does take a 46 mm filter.

Q: 2. '' a 3.7 minimum focusing distance, and a 0.6 minimum working distance. What does that mean?

A: Minimum Working Distance = the closest you can get the front element of the lens to your subject and still have the lens able to obtain focus. Minimum Focusing Distance = the shortest distance the lens will focus, measured from the sensor inside the camera, since that's where the image is focused. Since that distance is very close to the length of the lens, the minimum working distance is approximately the minimum focusing distance minus the length of the lens.

Q: 3. I have the fantasea housing for the canon G16. Does this lens fits?

A: Hi JoseThese items fits the FG16 but you will need a 67mm adaptor Item # 4702 EyeDaptor F Series - F67 / cat # 4702RegardsFantasea Lineinfo@fantasea.com

Q: 4. Weather proofing?

A: There is no weatherproofing on this model. You have to go to the M.ZUIKO ED 60MM F2.8 MACRO to get some splash & dust protection (actually, it costs just 50$ more than the 30MM, I have it too and I use it a lot), or the M.ZUIKO ED 12-50MM F3.5-6.3 EZ

Q: 5. I understand 1:1 but what does 1:1.25 mean is that less than 1:1 or more than 1:1?

A: It magnifies to more that 1:1, thus considerably more (25%) than life size. The only problem with that is, that at such magnification the object is .6 of an inch from the front element and very difficult to light without specialized flash. It also is a poor choice for anything alive, even if chilled to restrict movement. So one gets extra magnification over the Panasonic version, but one loses half a stop of speed at the same time.

Q: 6. II have a Fantasea FG 16 for my cannon G16. Does it fits? Doninneed an adapter?

A: Hi JoseThese items fit the FG16 but you will need a 67mm adaptor Item # 4702 EyeDaptor F Series - F67 / cat # 4702RegardsFantasea Lineinfo@fantasea.com

Q: 7. Will this take filters ??

A: Yes. It has standard 46 mm threads on the front.

Q: 8. What do I need to use this with a fantasea fg7 hpusing

A: The lens port on the Fantasea Line FG7X II Underwater Housing has 67mm filter threads. So the Fantasea Line UCL-09F +12.5 Super Macro Lens could be attached directly to the lens port. No adapter is required.

Q: 9. Does the EM1's focus stacking work with this lens?

A: Olympus site says this is now compatible with focus stacking (which makes me happy!) https://cs.olympus-imaging.jp/en/support/imsg/digicamera/qa/products/em1m2/#08

Q: 10. Will lens perform general photography,like 4/3 35mm macro f/3.5?

A: Yes. As a backpacker, I carry just the macro and use it for landscape and general photography in addition to macro work.

We bought this as a gift for our daughter in law.  While I dont know anything about cameras, she does and she said that she loves this lens.

I bought this to scan 35 mm negatives with the Nikon ES-2 Digitizer Set. Works a treat. The lens is very sharp and light. Optically, it's perfection. It just doesn't look impressive, with that tiny front element. Heck, it may see some use other than in scanning, some day.

I purchased this lens with an OM-D E-M10 Mark II. I had been a film photographer for years, using everything from 35mm film to large format, and resisted buying into digital for years before I decided to test the waters with M4/3. Even with the smaller format and form-factor, I was impressed with some of the better M4/3 systems and optics. Loved the smaller size for offroad motorcycle and 4X4 trips.

When I stared using this lens, I was blown away by the sharpness and quick and accurate auto focusing on my E-M10 and even my crusty old Lumix GF3. It has stunning macro capability even exceeding 1:1. Considering the quality vs price considerations, this should be a no-brainer. Couldn't be happier with this purchase.

I took this shot of my cat just for fun. Wide open at 3.5, the E-M10 and lens just did everything right. At 100% magnification, you can literally count the dimples on his nose-leather.

This lens is an amazing value. It has great sharpness and color and extremely fast autofocus. If you have never used a macro lens before, it will open up a whole new world to you. If you shoot Olympus or other micro 4/3, you owe it to yourself to buy this lens.

A lot of people seem to wonder why anyone bothers with all the short focal length macro lenses like this 30mm f3.5 lens, the Nikon Z 50mm f2.8 MC, the Nikon 55mm micro, and similar lenses like that. These short lenses really shine when you're trying to do copy work since it lets you use a shorter and stiffer stand even with larger documents. These are also great lenses for transmissive scanning where you shine a light behind the transparency and great lenses for scanning film. You can scan an 8x10 negative at a reasonable distance with a shorter macro lens like this. The other question people ask is why so slow. If you're doing a lot of macro work, depth of field is pretty much nil. You really need to stop down the lens or use some focus stacking with certain subjects. F3.5 does not give me enough depth of field for some of the subjects I shoot. With a smaller aperture you don't need as many slices when stacking or to stop down so much. If you need a portrait lens, get an actual portrait lens because this is probably not what you are looking for, and if you do insects or some flowers get the longer macros so you don't have to be in their faces and can get better illumination. If you're doing copy work or don't mind having more depth of field for other kinds of photos, this is the lens to get. I wish there was a way to see my magnification ratio on this lens or have an MF clutch, but I can figure that out through measurement if I need to. In the meantime, this is really working well for me for copy work. Love this! You can also use this with the Nikon ES-2 set. I don't personally do this, but I've seen more than one setup with the ES-2, and many people seem to be using this combination for their day to day film scanning. The high-res shot mode really works well for scanning since nothing is moving, and you get a lot more dynamic range this way.

I love the size and the weight of this small jewel. is the equivalent of 60mm full frame lens, but is just kind slow glass f3.5 for the size but in today's system being slow it is not a really a big deal.

I owe the 100mm Canon L which is more glass, full frame, way more lightning comingthrough. BUT! for this price tag, size, focus performance its a most must must, It's a jaw-droppinglens. Literally I can touch the subject and the lens still focus. Now wonder how its the performance of the high-end macro Olympus lens quality... Must be outstanding! We'll see!
