This is my first DSLR and I am very pleased with the SL1. When I compare the SL1 to my friend's Nikon 5200, the SL1 interface and all it's components just seem to integrate a little better together, not unlike an Apple product. There is one short coming I've noticed: Max shots per second is 4; I didn't think it would be a problem until by chance I went to a shooting range. I'm still learning about the triage of shutter speeds, aperture and ISO but the dials and touch screen make it super easy to change the settings and review images to see the settings' effects.

I bought this as a stop gap until Canon learns to make the next generation of cameras: high quality mirrorless with EVF. As it turned out, it's a fine camera compared to the big and chunky 7D and 5D2 that also live in our house. I even bought the Sigma 8-16mm ultrawide so it would have all the capabilities of the full frame. Comparing price, size, weight and capabilities, with other Canon DSLRs, this camera is a wonder. I did some test comparison shots with the SL1 and the 7D with the 50mm F1.4, 24-105, 14mm F2.8 and the Sigma 8-16. ISO from 100-800, I could tell no difference. Some might find call the full-auto frame rate slow. I don't shoot that way, so it doesn't matter to me. Video does well, and it's easier to do than with the 5D2 or 7D. I did have to modify my Hoodman crane to fit, as its lowest setting was still too tall for this little camera. The live view full time autofocus during video is good, and with the Hoodman crane and an external mic, it's not a bad video camera at all. I've not taxed the battery yet with long sessions, but for the typical kids in the park stuff, it is more than OK. Bottom line. As an only DSLR, I see no problem with this camera. In fact, my wife and I used to switch off with the 5D2 and 7D. Now I tell her just keep both bodies. I have my own.

Great as my second body/specialty camera. There are times my 5D MIII is just too big or I just don't need all that camera and a P&S is too lame. This is perfect. Great little/light camera.

The EOS SL1 is so small but it is one fantastic camera. And the 18-55mm STM lens is great. Plus the price was really good. But what I like most (And this makes Canon Inc. a genius), is that I have 2 EF lens from my old EOS Rebel s2 film camera and they work on the SL1 beautifully. A 35-80mm & 80-200mm. And the photos from these lens are great. I can't say anything bad about my new camera system.

I love this lens and camera combo! The images are super crisp at all apertures. 15 is plenty wide too. The touch screen is a really cool function that other rebels don't have. Also the camera is very light and compact.. It has many awesome and easy to use functions such as specific scene selection, and even an HDR mode. These are great for beginners or camera dummies. What is also great is that if you are knowledgable with settings, you can put the camera in manual mode and have complete control over ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, etc. It's also great for movies. I shoot a lot if weddings and it keeps up with my 7d. I like to record at 24fps to give it that 'film look' . You can also record at 60fps and slow it down for super crisp slow motion, still at high fed (720p).

When I received our new SL1 I was first amazed at the size of the camera, after reading the instructions and taking some practice shots, I was again AMAZED at the performance. I had a 12 yr old Rebel and a 18-200m Tamron lens, now I have the SL1 and a new Tamron 18-27, what a wonderful performing and pair up of equipment. The camera is rated as a low end, entry level camera, let me tell you that after reading the reviews on this camera, especially those from professional photographers, I agree with their comments, you don't need a high end camera if this little entry level camera performs in such an exceptional manner. TRY ONE, you will definitely buy one!!

Haven't had this camera very long but love it already. Getting ready to take a photography class to learn more but so far very easy to use with auto everything and pictures tremendous. Fits great in my small hands, very light and portable.

This camera is small, but has the same recurses a bigger one would have. I took great pictures with it! I think it would get better only because of some noise, no panoramic pictures, a small flash delay and... the price.

The camera was delivered while I was at work and my wife (no dslr experience) had it all setup and was taking great pictures by the time I got home. Very user friendly and intuitive design! Also the light weight makes it easy to shoot all day. My speedlite actually weighs more than the camera. The only down side I've encountered so far, is it can not trigger wireless flashes. However, this should not be an issue for most users.
