Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use this for vocal recording, too?

A: The Super 55 can be used for any vocal application from live performance to recording.

Q: 2. What cable type and gauge do I use for connection of MX412DC microphone to a mixer approximately 100 feet away?

A: 22 Awg balanced/Shielded low-capacitance cable (16-24 pf/ft) is good for runs up to 1000'. If you are inquiring about permanently installed cables, I'd recommend Belden 1800B or an equal.

Q: 3. What kind of battery is used to power it up?

A: Not battery powered.

Q: 4. Where is it made? ( made in )

A: This item is made in Mexico.

Q: 5. How heavy is the base? Will it stay in place even if the podium is slightly tilted?

A: Not very heavy at all. The overall weight of the entire microphone is less than 18 ounces. The chances of the microphone moving out of place if the podium is tilted is extremely high, unless the MX412DC is fastened or secured with velcro.

Q: 6. Will this mic preform outside well with a windscreen?

A: Gooseneck mics generally come with foam windscreens, but for outdoor use , you may consider a furry windscreen to cut out wind. There are not furry models made specifically for this mic, but the Saramonic XM1-WS Furry Windscreen, BH #SAXM1WS would work for outdoor use.

Q: 7. Would this be a good mic for a podcast? Or do you have other recommendations?

A: The Beta 58 is a great sounding microphone that can be used in different applications, however this is mainly used to capture vocals for live sound. For podcast I would recommend one of the microphones in the links bellow, the first gives you the ability to connect the microphone through a interface to the computer but it also has a USB output to use it straight into the computer without additional hardware. The second microphone link it's one of the best sounding mics for a podcast and it has become the standard in the industry. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1593379-REG/shure_mv7_k_mv7_mic.html?sts=pi&pim=Y https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/225820-REG/Shure_SM7B_SM7B_Cardioid_Dynamic.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Q: 8. Is the MX412DC a push to talk unit?

A: Yes, the desk mount version of this gooseneck mic does havea push-to-talk button on the base.

Q: 9. Can I connect this lavalier directly to a Zoom H5?

A: The Shure MX184 is able to connect directly to one of the 2 available XLR mic inputs on the recorder. It will also receive its power from the recorder.

Q: 10. I want to find a way to run Shure MX412's wirelessly using my existing Sennheiser G3 wireless belt pack transmitter combos. I tried to use Whirlwind 4x Phantom Power blocks but they introduced too much line noise to be useful. Any suggestion?

A: I would consider getting the Sennheiser SKP 300 G3 transmitter which will provide 48 volts of phantom power for your MX412. This way you will not be introducing additional electronics to your audio chain, potentially causing line noise.
