Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. HAs anyone tried using this lens for tracking fast subjects on a D500? I prefer prime lenses and I am trying to decide between this and a 70-200 in the same price range.

A: I've been using it for Volleyball with a D5 and D850 which I think has the same AF system as the D500? No problems - great lens! But unless low light is an issue, a 70-200 gives you a lot more range.

Q: 2. How does this lens compare to the Nikon 135mm DC f/2? I have the Nikon. Is it worth purchasing the sigma?

A: The Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art Lens for Nikon F would be a good choice for sports shooting, or shallow depth of field portraits. The biggest advantage over the Nikon f/2, is the f/1.8 may be a little sharper to the edges, when wide open.

Q: 3. Does it work with A7r3 all autofocus function?

A: Yes, it will be fully compatible with all autofocus functions.

Q: 4. Would eye af work with this lens?

A: Yes, Sigma 135mm F1.8 for Sony E supports eye focus.

Q: 5. Does this lens come with a tripod collar?

A: No, Sigma does not manufacture a tripod collar designed for use with the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art Lens. The following items are listed as included with the lens under the "In The Box" section under the Overview tab on our website: In the Box Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art Lens for Sony E LCF-82 III 82mm Lens Cap Rear Cap LCR II for Sony E Mount Lenses LH880-03 Lens Hood Lens Case Limited 1-Year North and South America Warranty Limited 3-Year U.S.A. Warranty Extension

Q: 6. Is the Sigma 135 f1.8 a US model?

A: Yes it is.

Q: 7. anyone know of a tripod mount collar ring or other type of support for this lens so all the weight of this heavy lens isnt entirely on where it mounts to the camera? thank you

A: There is no specific collar known for this lens. It would seem the folks at Sigma do not seem to think this is a problem. If you must have a support, get a video 15mm LWS such as this. Opteka Universal DSLR Camera Mount Rod System B&H # OPCXS25 and this support Tilta 15mm LWS Rod Lens Support B&H # TILST05

Q: 8. What is the closest focusing distance?

A: The minimum focus distance for the Sigma 135mm F/1.8 is 2.87' / 87.5 cm.

Q: 9. I got the Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 Sports lens, I hate it's petal hood shape, I'd rather use the LH880-03 with it, it says Bayonet and it is 105mm front compatible, can I use it with the 70-120m I've mentioned above?

A: No, the Sigma LH88000AD-03 240 Lens Hood is only for the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art Lens.

Q: 10. Sigma says the 135 f/1.8 Art lens has an electromagnetic aperture mechanism. Does this apply to the Nikon mount version? Is it the equivalent of of Nikon's new E lenses?

A: Not sure. The lens is a beast. Tack sharp and amazing brokeh.

May well be the sharpest lens I've ever owned...and the list is long and distinguished. AF is snappier than i thought it might be. Bokeh is amazing. Hit rate even in low light dance action was great as well.

What I have learned after one week of using the Sigma 135. Again, the lens is just first class. Learning curve for me. The first time I changed the lens to manual focus, I just went brain dead. I neglected to switch the camera body to manual as well. The lens still focused manually, However when I switched the lens back to full auto the lens would not focus up, no way no how. I remembered reading this in another review on the New Sigma 85mm with the same problem. (DON'T SEND) the lens back because it won't auto focus. The FIX is turn off the power switch on the camera body. Then remove the battery. Reinsert the battery and the camera and the lens will talk to each other again. I understand this could be a pain for some camera owners. However I have a vertical battery grip on my camera and removing the battery takes just seconds. I wan't to emphasize that this was operator error for sending confusing info to the lens, so it needed to be rebooted. I hope this will help some of you with lens operation. I just love this lens. Photo #1 my cat full length full frame. #2. 200% crop of the same image.

I'm using this gem on a 5DIV and it just sings. -- It's slightly sharper than my 135L in the center and much sharper towards than my 135L the edges of the frame -- Autofocus is vastly improved over my previous experiences with Sigma's 35 Art and 50 Art. In single-shot AF, it focuses just as fast as my 135L, and just as accurately, too. I'm also getting more consistency than with my 135L. Way to go on this front, Sigma, bravo. -- It's quite heavy, noticeably more so than the 135L. This is a two-edged sword, as it helps to stabilize your whole rig, but hand-holding fatigue sets in more quickly. Lifting weights might help... -- Build quality leaves nothing to be desired. The mount is rubber-gasketed. Solid as a rock - no creaks, wobble, nothing. First-rate. -- Bokeh is not as creamy as I had predicted. Perhaps I'm spoiled by the Sony 85mm G-master, which sets the par for me currently, in this regard. The Sigma 135's bokeh isn't bad, not at all, but I feel that the 85GM (and even the 135L) is slightly creamier and less edgy. (This is very subjective, of course.) I'm also using this on my Sony A7RII via Sigma's MC-11 adapter, but with disappointingly less success than natively on my 5DIV. The body, adapter, and lens are running the most current firmware. Infinity focus (and even near-infinity) is way off in all AF modes (AF-S, AF-C). Face-detect and eye-focus works competently a-la-native E-mount lens, but consistency is not reliable. It hunts from time-to-time even in bright daylight conditions, racking back and forth through the entire focus range before giving up. Perhaps a future firmware update for the MC-11 would fix this. Overall, this lens is superb. I have full confidence using it for paid work on my Canon body; less so on my Sony.

SIGMA 135ART - F/1,8 - Nikon mount 1st piece ever , officially , delivered in Europe. (Specifically in Greece) My male topmodel kitty , Kokopsonakos , sends his regards. Absolutely NO sharpening , has been applied in his photo. Only a mediore gain/lift of the shadows. The photo has been downscaled from its original analysis to less than 1K due to B&H limitations of the Photo uploader (it was saved at 60% quality) . It has been shot with aperture F1.8 !!!! Camera was at 2m distance, from the model. Model was 2,5m distance , from the backround. First time in my life , i have the certainty that my Nikon D750's 24Mp sensor is WAY outperformed (maybe even humiliated :P ) by the quality of the glass. The glass is astonishing and possibly can resolve more than 50megapixels of analysis !!!! I am shocked by the image quality. We need an immediate , head to head , comparison with the OTUS 85mm/F1.4. Falling in LOVE with SIGMA !!!

Exactlty what I've come to expect from sigmas art series line. Its a well built tank of a lens with amazing quality optics. Calling 1.8 sharp is a total understatememt on this lens....its beautiful and the resulting bokeh is buttery silk...amazing. Hats off to sigma for finally releasing this focal length in their art series. In the Nikon world there have been no good 135mm lens autofocus options for years (nikons 135 last being released in the 90s) and thats no longer the case with the release of this lens...

Sigma has continued to exceed any expectations that I have. I know own almost the entire ART line, the 24, 35, 50, 85, and now the 135. All I can say is wow! There is truly nothing on the market that compares in sharpness at f/1.8 or to the speed of the AF system. it's quite, fast and dead on. Like most Sigma lenses it is a good idea to get the calibration dock and spend a few minutes really fine tuning the AF system. This is the downfall of the third party market, none of them have the Nikon or Canon secret sauce that they need to sync the AF systems like OEM Glass; however, with that said. It was as simple as a few tweaks and this lens was razor sharp. I've used it for almost a month now and it has almost all but replaced my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 FL ED VR. If there is anything I'd change it'd be adding VR and moving it to f/1.4. B&H had this lens weeks before everyone else and I was able to get a copy earlier than expected which was amazing, this sold me not only on the Sigma lens, but on B&H.

This lens is amazing! I have never purchased a non-canon L lens before but sigma seems to really have it together these days! This lens is crazy sharp and I would 100% recommend it to anyone on the fence between it and anything else for telephoto! Downside: Does NOT work with any teleconverters or extension tubes

Just unboxed the brand new Sigma 135mm f/1.8 and it is a superb piece of glass. All ready shot several hundred images and its performance is unbelievable. Worth every penny Sigma wants for it.

I have just received my new 135 ART lens. In my hands It looks and feels great. One of the first things I noticed is the extra wide focus ring grip, allowing you to cradle the camera and lens perfectly in your left hand. Using your right hand for manual over ride focusing when necessary. Focus is fast and tack sharp right out of the box. So far the lens delivers super sharp images with paper thin focus when is wide open. I'm loven this lens. First class build and looks beautiful on the camera body. Thanks to Sigma, for this new ART line lens. I'm looking forward to many years of fine photographic images. Almost forgot to thank B&H for allowing me to per-order the lens. They delivered the lens right on the date of release. Two- day UPS shipping included. From a happy B&H customer.

Sharp, well constructed with Bokeh that is simply outstanding. Focuses quickly, with three focus limit options. As good as it gets.
