A: No, there are no Variable ND filters that are also IR that we are aware of.

A: These are not front threaded and do not allow any filters to be attached to the front. Any additional filters you would want to use would need to go behind this filter. Though always watch out for vignetting which can happen when stacking to many filters.

A: Which option you choose would depend on the ambient lighting conditions you plan to be in and your camera's metered exposure. The range between your metered aperture and your required working aperture would determine which would work best for your shooting environment. That being said, if you are not sure which to start with, I would recommend the 2 to 5 stop variable neutral density filter for your usage needs. A: No, this filter rotates like the polarizer. It'll be too hard to see the effect of the ND moving around and the polarizer moving. I found it hard enough to see the effect of the 2 stop ND thru my lens in dawn light. I had to put a mark on the metal ring to see where the center of the top of the filter is so I could quickly set up the shot.
