Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If I get a female XLR to male 1/8 cable, will this work with the Rode Wireless pro?

A: The Audio-Technica AT831b Cardioid Condenser Lavalier Microphone could be connected to the Rode Wireless Pro transmitter using a female XLR to locking 3.5mm cable such as B&H #SECM1.

Q: 2. Would this mic be good for musical theater performers?

A: Yes, the Audio-Technica Pro 70 Cardioid Lavalier Microphone can be used for musical theater. The mic is designed for use with vocals or instruments and favors the mid-range frequencies.

Q: 3. Is the end of the cable an XLR connector? I have phantom power on my field recorder and don't want to add any power modules.

A: The Audio-Technica AT831B terminates in a TA3 (miniXLR) connector, but the included power module has a regular XLR output.

Q: 4. Can I connect the AT 831B ( with the power supply module ) in an acoustic guitar amp with a XLR input and already providing a phantom power of 16 V?

A: The AT831B can operate on phantom power ranging from 9-52 volts and also using battery. There would be no issue connecting to a device that provides 16V phantom via XLR.

Q: 5. Would this be compatible with a Panasonic GH4 video camera? Or is there a particular adapter/connector required?

A: It has a full-size XLR connection. What input does your camera need? If you've got pro XLR you're all set. This is a great mic! If you have an 1/8 input, this isn't your microphone. :(

Q: 6. How can I connect the Audio-Technica Pro 70 to my Macbook Pro?

A: The Audio-Technica Pro 70 Cardioid Lavalier Microphone can be adapted for connection to a Macbook with an audio interface that offers an XLR input connection. A simple option such as the Polsen XLR-USB-48 XLR to USB Audio Interface (BH #POXLRUSB48) could satisfy this criteria. A more popular option could be found in the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2x2 USB Audio Interface (BH #FOSCARSOLO3G).

Q: 7. I have a Tascam DR-701R that provide phantom power, so still I need piut the Battery in the AT831B?

A: It is battery or phantom. So you can run it with the phantom power on your DR-701, or if you would like to save some battery power on your DR-701, you can run the AT831B on battery power.

Q: 8. is there a good wind screen for this microphone? It is very sensitive to wind.

A: You can use the Auray Fuzzy Windbuster for Lavalier Microphones - Black (B&H # AUWLW) or Rycote Lavalier Windjammer - Black (B&H # RYWFLB). If you prefer a foam windscreen, the Auray WLF-038-3R Foam Windscreens for 3/8" Diameter Microphones - 3 Pack (B&H # AUWLF0383R) or Audio-Technica AT8116 Mini Lavalier Windscreen (B&H # AUAT8116) are compatible.

Q: 9. Does the HS-U3BK headset mic use a battery, or require DC power?

A: The Galaxy Audio HS-U3BH Headset Microphone requires DC power of 1 to 10V in order to function.

Q: 10. What records the sound? The camera or the mic's memory card?

A: This mic has an XLR cable so if your camera has an XLR input then you can record to your camera. The mic doesn't have a memory card. I film with a DSLR so I use a Zoom H4N to pass the mic input to my camera.

I did not have it fully tested but in a first try it seemed to sound clearly, much better than a piezo. ...

We are using this mic for on-camera interviews in a simple setting where the more expensive wireless lav's are not needed. These mics have a great sound that makes the voice rich in quality. Worth the money.

I purchased 3 of these to use for filming video depositions. They are thoughtfully designed and rugged. The power supply runs off one AA battery (included)and is made of heavy metal. It has a switch on the side with three positions - power off - power on, flat response - and power on, low cut filter. The mic clip is not flimsy. The storage bag is padded mesh fabric and is nicer than what you get with an SM-57. The capsule is a bit large, thicker than a pencil not as thick as one of those black permanent markers we all use to label our DVDs (you know the one... right?). The best two features of this mic though are it's RF rejection (dead silent while a cellphone call was lighting my other -more expensive brand- lav up like a Christmas tree) and the length of the cable coming from the power supply to the mic element (something like 6 feet, maybe more. and it's good quiet cable, not a lot of handling noise). The only thing I might call a con is that the Battery Cover Latch is sort of a light weight, not cheap, but not exactly the same build quality as the rest of the mic, but certainly not a deal-breaker... My suggestion is buy three.

It does what I wanted it to do! Used with video camera, it picks up voices great with fine fidelity. I am well satisfied. As with any such mike, be careful about rubbing against clothing or breathing on it; but that's not a mike problem.

I use the product with SONY fX7 and it works great. Although it's mono, you can hardly tell because the sound is crisp and loud. I was interviewing a man who had a hearing problem and talked at a whispering tone. We were in a loud hotel lobby but the mic picked him up just fine! The mic does not work well with my zoom H1 though, the sound is tinny and quiet. But when it's plugged directly into the camera, it sounds awesome!

I already owned one Pro 70 microphone and loved the quality of the audio. I shoot and edit video for a local TV show and I wanted to purchase a second Pro 70 microphone so I could use them for interviews. If you need high quality audio for a small price, then I highly recommend the Pro 70.
