Impact Large Improved Deep White Umbrella (51")

Impact Large Improved Deep White Umbrella (51")

$164.85 $260.46

Useful for shooting full length portraits or groups, the 51" Large Deep White Umbrella from Impact is a unique light shaping tool with a deeper than normal profile. The exaggerated depth makes for a narrower beam than a standard umbrella while still retaining some of an umbrella's wrap around qualities; but with a defined edge. Additional control can be achieved by fine-tuning the "focus" of the beam by varying the flash head's position along the umbrella's shaft. The 16-rib design, coupled with the reflective white interior, results in a soft, even beam at all head positions. The umbrella features an improved finger-friendly locking mechanism for secure and fast set up and break down.

This umbrella has a beauty dish light quality for portraits. Nice and soft, and small diameter so light falls off quickly. It's a deep umbrella, so it doesn't spill as much light at the sides as regular umbrellas. Build quality is decent for the price. Packs small, and sets up quickly. I use it for portraits on location and in the studio.

I'm a huge fan of these deep white umbrellas. The light is soft and even and in the studio I can use it as my large window light source. Add some diffusion or a curtain in front and it's gorgeous.

Make sure you tighten down all hardware when using this umbrella. You'll find that filling the umbrella requires being close to the end of the shaft and that places a lot of weight and stress on the strobe or swivel mount.

Whether direct or heavily feathered, the light remains beautifully soft and well controlled with a round catch light. No hot spots or star effects like so many silver umbrellas produce.

The umbrella and mechanism are well made and I love the redesign of the latch/unlatch system. No recoil or dangerous amounts of tension being released. Well done!

My first test provided remarkable results. A very small strobe into the umbrella was great. Strong, but not overbearing. I look forward to testing it out doors with the 1200ws strobes. Should be great for balancing daylight and stove light. Thank you B&H. Great product and great service as usual.

I like deep umbrellas. I use the 51" for large spaces, 41" for smaller spaces, and 33" for 8' ceilings. I don't like the hassle of setting up softboxes and don't have the time to do that either.

These are deep umbrellas which are not the same as parabolic umbrellas. The deep umbrellas have a hotspot unlike a parabolic umbrella which has even the light from edge to edge. However, even lighting is not good in all circumstances. I like that fact that there are hotspots and then the light feathers out. I use that feathered light, leaving the hotspot to skim over the subject/s.

The difference between a deep umbrella and regular umbrellas is that there is more control over the width of the feathering. The hotspot with the deep umbrella is the same but the feathering is 25% less than regular umbrellas giving you more control over the lighting than regular umbrellas.

The quality of this umbrella is great. It has fiberglass rods which are much stronger and flexible than metal rods. The umbrella's white interior also does not cause color shift.
