The system features three ranges: low, medium, and high. It supports up to 15 channels to select from, and the controllers pair with each motor via the motor ID.

The FIZ hand unit can control three channels (focus, zoom, and iris), as well as override the handgrips.

The motors can calibrate on lenses with or without hard stops, such as a photo lens with follow focus gears.

The motors feature cine standard 0.8 MOD 32 pitch drive gears. Each motor includes a 19mm rod clamp and a 15 to 19mm adapter bushing, allowing you to mount the motors onto either a 15mm or 19mm rod.

The motors power from a D-Tap connector, and then pass power by daisy-chaining via the 7-pin connectors with the included cables.

The FIZ hand controller and each handgrip power via two 18650 3000mAh, 3.7V Li-ion batteries.

The batteries in the FIZ hand controller will last for more than 10 hours, and up to 48 hours in each handgrip, when idle.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the soft bag case shown in the picture included in de partial kit IV?

A: Yes. The soft zippered case is included.

Q: 2. Will this work with Nikon d3300,3400, and D4 cameras as far as record controls and focus and zoom with the two motors?

A: Tilta doesn't have a Run/Stop cable for those Nikon cameras yet but this also requires P-Tap power from a brick battery or D-Tap port + a 15MM rod system.

Q: 3. I want to add this item to my Movi 10 , what and how do I power the meters while its on my Movi10 ?

A: GyroVu offers the V-Mount Battery Carbon Fiber Mount with D-Tap Connector for Ronin M/MX and MoVI Gimbals. This will attach the 25mm Top Bar of the M10 and allow you to use a V-Mount battery to power the Nucleus-M. https://bhpho.to/2OKe7a2 Here is a great option for a V-Mount Battery and Charger. https://bhpho.to/2mzvEZW

Q: 4. How much does a single motor and power cord weigh?

A: The D-Tap power cord weighs 1.1 oz / 32 g, and below you can find the weighing for the motor: 6.7 oz / 190 g (motor only) 7.9 oz / 225 g (with 15mm rod adapter) 7.8 oz / 221 g (with 19mm rod adapter)

Q: 5. Batteries

A: The recommended battery for the Tilta Nucleus-M Wireless Lens Control System Partial Kit I hand unit would be the Zhiyun GMB-B118 18650 Lithium-Ion Battery (3-Pack), B&H # ZHGMBB118.

Q: 6. Wired?

A: The controller included in this kit does not have a port for connecting to the follow focus motor with a physical cable therefore it can not operate as a wired solution. This is exclusively a wireless solution and it has a range of up to 1000 feet.

Q: 7. Power

A: Batteries for the Nucleus M handle control can be purchased here. https://bit.ly/38jpRQj and the servo is powered in many ways. However using a DTAP power cable connected to batteries like the following would be the most popular solution. https://bhpho.to/3MrL9dl

Q: 8. My kit came with a strip of 3m double coated tissue tape circles, what would these be used for?

A: You can use dry-erase markers to make marks, and that way when you are pulling focus you are able to see where the focus points are.

Q: 9. How could I use REC button on RED camera?

A: Yes, you would just need to purchase the Tilta Nucleus-M RED DSMC2 Run/Stop Cable, B&H # TIRS02RD. https://bhpho.to/2LqDeP5

Q: 10. will the handles mount on a ronin m?

A: Yes they will. This kit comes with two Handle to Gimbal Bar Adapters that work with bars between 25 to 30mm. The Ronin-M has a 25mm top bar.

My only complaints about the setup is the motors try WAY to hard even at the 30% torque at 12volts. I got the 7.5 volt cable and the Auto Calibrate works Much better. My other complaint in the Master controller freezes up on me at least once per shoot (pop the batteries and it frees up, that is what Tech support will tell you to do, wish they would just actually fix the issue). The speed at which the motors spin the lens when you release the range on the controllers is way to fast (not so much a problem once you are aware of the issue). Other than those three nuances the setup is great and works. The when setting the ranges you get super smooth focus pulling. For the price the setup just works.

The tilta is the best value out there for the money. Smooth tracking, no latency. It’s exactly what we needed for our indie production

This kit is well built, and is far more useful than I expected. The FIZ controller and two hand grips provide for countless control options, without limiting the imagination of the operator. The zoom rockers are small, but do allow for proportional speed control.

I initially thought one motor was DOA, as it failed to move. It was due to my enthusiasm to test the system without reading the manual. Hint: calibrate the motors first, and then turn on the controllers.

Honestly, I cannot think of any criticism of this gear. I can now use a great manual  lens with all the automation that I am used to.

I was hesitant at first being that Comparable systems cost many thousands more but from what I can see and have experienced the nucleus remote follow focus system seems very solid. That being said, I did have a problem with the recommended style batteries for the unit. What I eventually did was looked around for batteries that were slightly shorter (Panasonic )
So currently I use one 18650 battery the type recommended on the website when you purchase the nucleus. I also use one 18650 nonprotected battery sold by Panasonic which I found on Amazon to remedy the problem of not being able to close the battery access door in the hand grips in the F.I.Z. unit.
Other than the forementioned problem I have used it and I am absolutely impressed with how precise the hand controller’s are in working with the motors wirelessly.
I have needed a follow focus system for a while and I am so happy I waited and bought the nucleus over the technologically how did Preston system.
That being said, I don’t often shoot with large very stiff primes or zooms that might indeed require a much more powerful motor like Hayden or Preston.

Have been using this for about 5 or 6 months now. Incredibly reliable and worked fine right out of the box. Everything feels very well made and super good for the price. Just be careful when unscrewing the motors from your rig as sometimes the handscrews will come loose and fall off.

Just used it on a short film and this thing is killer solid. Build quality excellent and wireless never lost signal. Took a while to learn the menus but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty quick to sync and calibrate.

I used in both photo and cinema lenses. With photo lenses, It’s fairly fast to calibrate and love the fact that even during a battery swap it still remembers my lens calibration. Just needed to do a quick spin from min to far focus and lenses is calibrated again.

As for accurately hitting the same marks, it stayed fairly consistent on the marks even during power resets.

There is a very tiny, tiny lag between controller and motor. For our project it was too small to be noticeable.

Price point simply cannot be beat for this quality of a product, especially with 2 motors included.

Ok first I wanted to keep my new wireless follow focus secret, hoping I’d have an advantage over the rest of the Indy film makers, but then I decided, everyone needs to hear about this thing!
This product is a quantum leap over the Indy competition, I’d say Tilta has their sights set on producing gear for the pro market.
The nucleus m handset is elegant with is warm wood touches (though I expect this to be it’s weak point), it’s menu’s are easy to navigate, and the set up is easy with the clearly written manual, I can be a little tech phobic, but had no trouble getting it running within 15 min of unboxing.
So far the motor has plenty of torque for my old Nikon lenses, and did I mention it comes with a second motor? Right?!
Set up for a zoom and focus pull, or a focus pull and iris adjustment, oh and did I mention that it comes with a set of ergonomic handgrips that incorporate all the same controls as the handset.
Attached to a shoulder rig, the handles give you a right thumb rocker control, and left and right finger wheel controls options, which you can assign to operate individual motors, making customizing your setup easy and intuitive. With simple lens calibration, control of knob travel ,knob direction, motor torque, signal strength, push button stops, and more, I feel sorry for everyone out there shooting without it, oh but now that I’ve opened my big mouth, I expect I’ll soon see Tilta Nucleus M’s gracing Indy film cameras everywhere (watch out Preston)

I bought these after renting them for a shoot and loved them. Very smooth and responsive and the wood is a nice touch. A little tricky to set up and calibrate but overall very pleased and a nice substitute for a more expensive teradeck system.

A high quality system with 2 motors and 3 controllers which can all work wirelessly or wired for about the cost of two decent mechanical follow focus gears.  Each controller can be on its own channel and each channel can handle 4 motors (including 1 Nano motor), though no one controller can handle more than 3.  You could, for example, add two Nano motors and run two rigs with one M and one Nano motor each, controlling one rig with the handles and the other with the FIZ unit.

The system has virtually zero latency and is very precise, translating the slightest movements of the FIZ dial to tiny movements on the motor.

I do wish I could manually calibrate from the handle.

Really the best WFF you can get right now for the money. You can use it for yourself when cam oping or as an AC.
My unit works perfectly. The newest update also allows you to power down and save your calibration.

I've kept up with this system on the facebook group for a while and decided to get one despite the issues people had with interference. I haven't experience with interference so far.
