This lens is great for action sports, is very sharp, and tracks fast movers well. It's also light enough to handhold, but can also be set on a monopod if you prefer. Also does macro surprisingly well, considering that's not its main purpose. Well worth the investment and the GMaster moniker.

Just received this lens and spent several hours testing it. First I shot many images of my bookcase at various focal lengths with my a7rII to see the I got a good copy of the lens. I checked every corner very carefully. I mostly shot all the tests at f11 because I am a landscape photographer and this is the f stop I normally use. Everything looked great. So far I'm keeping the lens. Next I took the lens outside and tried it at all focal lengths to see how it did in the real world. I was not disappointed. In fact, I'm supper pleased with the sharpness of this lens. I have been a professional landscape photographer for over 30 years, and have owned the best lenses out there up to 600mm. In terms of sharpness, this rivals any lens I have ever used. I also used it with the 1.4x teleconverter, and really could see no degradation even at 560mm. I normally don't use auto focus, but I was also pleased at how fast it focused even with the 1.4x converter. Now if I were a serious animal/bird photographer I would probably need a faster lens, but for my travel/landscape images this is a perfect lens.

I use this lens for birds and wildlife primarily, but the close focusing capabilities make it a versatile lens for portraits and landscape also. It is a little on the short side for birds, but it pairs great with the FE 1.4x Teleconverter with apparent no negative effects on focusing speed nor sharpness. I use this with the A7R2, and the focusing speed is much better than other similar lenses I have tried in the past. I've had both versions of the A-mount 70-400mm (used them on the A77II and A99 as well as with the A7R2 and A6300 with the LAEA3 and the LAEA4), as well as the first version of the Tamron 150-600mm, and this lens is much quicker to focus and better image quality. I believe that the bokeh is pleasant. From what I've read, this lens would work even better with the A9. I look forward to trying this combination one of these days. But even with the A7R2, I believe that this is the best lens that's out there that has a greater focal length than the 300mm.

Excellent lens, sharp and quick AF. Much smaller and lighter for travel than my 200-600. Works great with both the 1.4 and 2.0 TC when there is enough light for the F-stop reduction. Has short minimum focal distance and have used for everything from wildlife to sports, landscape, flower closeup and portrait. Primarily use for travel when I don't carry 2 bodies fitted with other lens. Big disappointment is no zoom lock on external zoom GM lens. Has softer/tighter ring but lens creeps even on tighter setting. I knew this when I bought it but other features offset.

Finally a true telephoto for the alpha series! Photos taken with this and the ARII where sharp and bright. Handholding is possible but a tripod definitely enhances the result. Solid construction. Especially useful is the lens hood with the cutout to rotate the circular polarizer.

I've been waiting for some time for Sony to make a quality e-mount zoom telephoto lens I just wish they done it sooner. One thing is for sure this is a very good lens.

This Sony GM zoom is an excellent performer, and delivers top image quality. Zooming is smooth, focusing is fast and precise, and resolution is excellent. I prefer native glass, with no performance handycaps, and this lens delivers in every way. Definitely recommended!

I use this lens for my wildlife photography. The lens on my A7rii is fast and very sharp. I recently ordered the 1.4x to going along with this combo. I let some friends test the lens out on their A6300 and they pre ordered the next day.
