Bundled with a color-matched, vibration-reducing shockmount, the nickel Neumann TLM 107 Studio Set large-diaphragm multipattern condenser microphone brings renowned Neumann sound quality and immense versatility to a price point that's accessible to music creators and engineers working in project studios and home recording setups. The dual-diaphragm capsule—specially developed for the TLM 107—offers a balanced tone that's consistent across its five selectable polar patterns, making the mic a great choice for capturing vocals and instruments without coloration.

A single control on the rear of the mic is used to change the polar pattern, pad (-6 or -12 dB), and low-cut filter (40 or 100 Hz). With the -12 dB pad engaged, the TLM 107 can be used on sound sources up to 153 dB for recording percussion, drums, amplifiers, and other loud instruments clearly and without distortion. A treble boost above 8 kHz helps the mic maintain detail and articulation while avoiding pronounced sibilance. Thanks in part to the transformerless circuitry, the TLM 107 yields only 10 dBA of self-noise, further enhancing its transparent nature.

The TLM 107 offers true high-definition sound quality at an affordable price. Neumann developed this microphone for project and home studio users who prefer to capture an uncolored sound image, true to the original source, in order to retain all options for post processing and mixing. The TLM 107, in turn, offers all the flexibility required to make a high-quality recording of any source in any situation.

Neumann decided to give the TLM 107 an updated look, although the large, tapered headgrille does echo the iconic design of such Neumann classics as the M 49 tube microphone. The stylish navigation toggle on the back of the microphone is a joy to use as it controls all settings in one place: pad (0, -6, or -12 dB), low-cut filter (linear, 40 Hz, or 100 Hz), and polar patterns (omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid, or figure-8).

The newly developed dual-diaphragm condenser capsule is specially designed for the TLM 107 to offer outstanding transient response and an extended, carefully balanced frequency response for all polar patterns. This means you can adjust the directional pattern according to the recording situation without affecting the overall sound balance, which is quite uncommon for a large-diaphragm microphone.

As a member of Neumann's TLM series, the TLM 107 operates with a transformerless circuit ensuring an open, transparent sound and a full, unrestricted bass transmission, even at highest levels. Two low-cut settings are available to reduce rumble and compensate for the proximity effect in close-miking situations. Even without engaging the two pad settings, the TLM 107 can handle enormous sound pressure levels of up to 141 dB without clipping (up to 153 dB with preattenuation). The TLM 107 has a self-noise of only 10 dBA, which is much lower than the ambient noise in a very quiet recording studio. In other words, the TLM 107 will add neither noise nor unwanted distortion to your recordings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the difference between the 103 vs 103MT vs 103D?

A: The TLM103 is the microphone only, the TLM103MT is the kit (stand, reflection filter, etc.) and the TLM103-D is the digital version, which is no longer available.

Q: 2. Where is the mic made?

A: The Neumann TLM 103 Large-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone (Black) is manufactured in Germany.

Q: 3. Does it come in a plastic case like I am seeing on YouTube?

A: Yes, the CAD M179 Large-Diaphragm Multipattern Condenser Microphone comes with a plastic carrying case.

Q: 4. Is there a third party shock mount for this mic that is more affordable than the $300 one they sell?

A: We offer BH #AUSSMNMN as a more inexpensive compatible shockmount for the Neumann TLM 103 Large-Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Microphone.

Q: 5. Is the SMR shockmount better?

A: The new SMR offers a new, more advanced design that is easier to set-up and use and will offer superior performance in many applications over the SM6 included in this kit..

Q: 6. Where was this microphone made?

A: The Neumann TLM-102 is made in Germany.

Q: 7. is 48v pre amp box? included for this item..thank you

A: No

Q: 8. Hi, I m a radio announcer, is this microphone the right one to use at a home studio ?

A: Yes, its one of the best yet cheapest mic from Neumann. The Neumann are industry leaders in mics and you'll love this mic for any sort of home recording. Will be perfect for your radio announcements.

Q: 9. Is it suitable for stringed instruments like sitar.

A: This large diaphragm mic would work recording a sitar, or other stringed-instrument, providing a bright and lively sound. But I would strongly consider looking at a small diaphragm microphone for recording a sitar. Consider the Neumann KM 184 MT Microphone (Matte Black), BH #NEKM184MT, which can placed 4 to 8 feet from the instrument and gives a very realistic recreation of the sitar’s droning and twangy sound.

Q: 10. What is difference between this mike and the plain old U87? Which is better for voice over work (no instruments; no music; no singing)?

A: The U87 AI is the currently available version of the U87. According to Neumann The major difference occur in the electronics and effectively improve the sensitivity and signal to noise ratio. Tonally are very similar as the capsule has not changed.
