Tiffen 62mm 81a Light Balancing Filter
- Product Code: ga5063
-
The Tiffen 62mm 81A Light Balancing Filter helps to decrease the color temperature by 200K in order to warm the image slightly in order to match the color quality of illumination. When using an 81A filter, you will be able to attain 3200K balance when the prevailing light source is 3400K. The warming effect of this filter requires a 0.3-stop increase in exposure for normal results.
This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. What polarizing filter fits on Tamron 18-400mm Di II VC HLD?
A: Look around the end of the lens. Filter thread diameter is usually a number with a zero with a slash through it (symbol for diameter). If you cant find that, visit the manufacturers website or the product listed on B&H and look for the filter thread diameter under Specifications .
Q: 2. What is the possibility of vignetting with this lens if I use a 18-55 or 18-200 mm lens?
A: When these lenses are used on cropped sensor cameras, there should not be any vignetting. If this filter is attached on top of a UV filter, then there may be some vignetting at 18 mm.
Q: 3. Can this filter be used on a Tamron 18-270 lens?
A: It would depend on the model of the Tamron 18-270mm lens you own as to whether the above filter will work on your lens. Tamron has manufactured two (2) versions of the 18-270mm lens, the older, discontinued model using 72mm filters, and the current model using the smaller 62mm filters. The best I can recommend is if you have your lens cap, look on the inside of the lens cap to see if the lens cap/filter thread size is listed inside the lens cap. Otherwise, if you can give us the full name or B&H number of the lens you own (or write all information on the lens itself), we would then be able to identify which filter thread size your lens needs.
Q: 4. What is the difference between the coarse thread filter and the regular circular polarizing filter?
A: Tiffen coarse thread filters have a 1.0 pitch, while the majority of filters have a 0.75 pitch. Thread pitch is the distance between the same point on adjacent threads of a screw, so a larger number means a more coarse thread, while a smaller number means a finer thread.
Q: 5. I bought this polorizer a few months ago. However, I don't see much difference. Is is possible that I am not using it correctly?
A: The circular polarizer should be able to remove reflections and glare from non-reflective items regardless of the working conditions. The circular polarizer filter will not remove glare/reflections from metal or metallic items. If you are referring to darkening the blue color in the sky, is is most important to note that you get the most color deepening or contrast when the sun is set perpendicular (at a 90° angle) to the direction your lens is facing. This means that you should practically never use a polarizer facing directly toward the sun (the sun aimed at one of your shoulders is better). Also note that polarization may not be even across the entire frame, especially when you are using wide angle lenses. When using a wide angle lens, do note that you may view bands of polarization with strong blue sections and then lighter shades of blue in the sky. Another reason to take off the filter for shots that include the sun is that the extra glass can result in more flaring, so the polarizer may not be recommended for sunrise/sunset images.
Q: 6. Can I attach a lens hood while using this Tiffen 58mm polarizer?
A: You can screw in a 58mm hood into this filter. You may wish to check your lens for it may already may have a bayonet mount lens hood that is independent of the need for a screw in hood.
Q: 7. is the compatible with the Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens?
A: If by compatible you mean will it fit the lens, the answer is yes. The deciding factor is the filter size. Both are 67mm.
Q: 8. Can I use this filter on Sony HX300? Is it threaded?
A: The Sony HX300 has a 55mm filter thread. This filter and any other 55 mm filter will be compatible.
Q: 9. do these polarizing filters cut down on the amount of light coming in the lens?
A: Yes, typically all polarizers cut out from 1-2 stops of light depending on where you have the filter set to.
Q: 10. Does this polarizer have threads on the front (making it possible to use stack caps)? If so, is the front diameter also 55mm? Thanks!
A: Hi Terry,Yes, the TiFFEN 55mm Circular Polarizer has 55mm inside threads in the front which allows the use of stack caps.William H.
