The Sennheiser MEG 14-40 is a 15.7” gooseneck microphone designed to provide intelligible speech reproduction for lectures, conferences, meetings, and houses of worship. It features an XLR 3-pin connector, which is compatible with most standard microphone preamps.

Its KE 10 capsule features a directional cardioid polar pattern and yields a frequency response of 50 Hz to 20 kHz. RF shielding protects against interference from wireless devices, giving you a cleaner signal. The flexible 15.7” gooseneck allows precise placement in front of the spokesperson. No batteries are needed to power the MEG 14-40; it operates on 12 to 48V phantom power.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. At its lowest setting, what is the height of this mic stand to the bottom of the screw mount?

A: While that spec is not specified by the manufacturer, we would estimate about 1''.

Q: 2. Does this kit also include the sennheiser native shockmount, and foam windscreen that usually comes in the case with the mkh50?

A: Yes, it has the boxed Sennheiser kit with the screen and a mic clip. The latter is the close-fitting clip with the standard 5/8 thread.

Q: 3. Is MPA-46 PA amplifier compatible with this microphone?

A: The MHL5S is a dynamic microphone which requires no external power to operate. This mic features an XLR output connection for PA use. If the PA amplifier features a 1/4 mic jack input, an adapter will be required such as the Shure A85F https://bhpho.to/2gg7KyL

Q: 4. is there a way to connect this for use directly on computer?

A: This microphone will need an inerface that can provide both phantom power and XLR to USB conversion to work with a computer.

Q: 5. Does this mic come in 18' Sennheiser MEG?

A: The longest we stock is 15.7 inch.

Q: 6. Is it possible ship to Hong Kong

A: Due to export regulations and/or manufacturer's restrictions, we are unable to ship the Sennheiser MKH 50 Supercardioid Microphone Kit to Hong Kong.

Q: 7. What will provide some protection for the mic from damage (only need for use indoors) better than the foam windscreen?

A: The only accessories made to actually mitigate damage to the MKH 50 P48 Microphone would be a case for safe storage and transport. In general, wind protection such as foam is not meant to protect against damage, only excessive wind noise and should not be misconstrued for physical protection. While it's true the foam can provide some slight protection against shock, you should still treat the microphone with the same level of care as you would with out any wind protection.

Q: 8. can I use the MKH 50 outdoor to record sound? Is it so bad?

A: If you plan to use the Sennheiser MKH 50 outdoors, which is entirely feasible, it would be highly recommended to combine it with a sturdy windshield such as BH #RYSSKS or BH #RYWSQAT.

Q: 9. Are there any pictures of the connector? Does it come out of the mic at a right angle or straight out of the bottom?

A: The Arturia MicroFreak Gooseneck Microphone's 3.5mm connector is on the flat part of the mount, which sits flush against the MicroFreak's headphone jack. It can be seen mounted in this image: https://bit.ly/3tMXEfZ"

Q: 10. Would this be appropriate for close-up field recordings of things like specific sounds of nature & experimental percussion/vocalizations?

A: This is an amazing microphne with a very tight pickup pattern. It will sound great great for that use.

This mic sounds great, has incredibly low self noise, and is more/less immune to RF interference. The only downside is handling noise, I had to spend $250 on the Cinela shockmount (completely worth it) to solve this.

The best mic I've owned to date. I'm not an audio expert, but an enthusiast. I needed a mic for dialogue indoors and I sprung for the staple MKH 50. It was an excellent decision. Testing it next to high end shotgun mics it blows them away. Of course, shotguns really shine in outdoor environments so that isn't a knock against shotguns, rather an endorsement for the MKH 50 when used indoors. I've tested it outdoors as well, and with proper wind protection it performs amazingly well. All in all, it's a 5 Star mic that will last many years.

Loving this mic for in door focused recordings of voices or instruments. B&H got it to me super fast as well.

I am a professional sound recordist and mostly work film, documentary, and tv. I bought this mic to supplement my supercardiod shotgun mic and have been very pleased with the results. It has a slightly wider pickup pattern meaning I can easily pick up conversations between two people with both being in the sweet spot and also seems to great reach. All in all a great sounding and sturdy mic, a perfect choice for the rigors of on location sound recording.

I skipped this microphone for a long time because of its high price, but its a much better choice than the mythical 416 or newer 8060 for indoor usage, while it has a very accurate capture of the audio, specially the voices, its very detail and I personally can't hear any reverbs that i could on a 416 for indoor usage. The price its biggest drawback, but for its worth its price.

This is the perfect indoors mic for you if you already own a Sennheiser MKH 416. It sounds great and it's built to last. A bit expensive but totally worth it.

I already own a Schoeps CMIT5 and 2x Senn MKH 416 and was excited to try something designed more towards indoor recordings. I've recently started doing a lot of talking head interviews in offices with noisy HVAC systems and ambient noise ranging from sirens to chatty office workers. The MKH 50 has out performed my current arsenal for indoor use.

Some specific PROS:
Really captures the low end frequencies which my client(s) love.

I can use one boom on multiple people if they are seated reasonably close together.

Some specific CONS:
Really captures the low end frequencies which I love less than my client(s).
I've needed to tape over the roll off switch when booming near air vents as it was causing rumble from the breeze getting in there.

People say it's good for voice over, but I have not had any luck with that... it's incredibly sensitive when you are right up on it and I think that inhibits the performance of both the mic and the artist.

Overall, I am extremely please with this addition to my kit and plan on getting a second one in the future. Highly recommend for anyone who already has a shotgun in their kit but would not recommend it as the first mic you buy if you are starting out.
