Exhibiting improved clarity, flatness, and reduced reflectivity, this 67mm Firecrest Ultra ND 0.9 Filter from Formatt Hitech is a neutral density filter providing a 3-stop reduction in exposure. This 0.9 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or longer shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Designed using inspiration from their cine Firecrest filters, these Ultra filters receive an additional lapping and polishing process during production to ensure lower reflectivity and improved clarity and sharpness.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and promote nearly flat attenuation of visible, UV, and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. This filter provides a high level of neutrality across all three spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks.

Applied to the outside of the SCHOTT Superwite glass construction is a 15-layer Firecrest multicoating, which helps to minimize reflections and flare in order to maintain truer colors and contrast. The multicoating is also scratch resistant and hydrophobic to benefit the overall durability of the filter. The filter is set within a 5.5mm-thick SuperSlim aluminum filter ring, which features front threads for stacking additional filters or attaching a lens cap.

This filter is designed specifically for photography applications. This filter is not suitable for direct solar viewing with the naked eye, including with optical viewfinders.

The Firecrest Ultra series filters exhibit greater clarity and have lower reflectivity than the original Firecrest filters. Borrowing from the range of Firecrest cine filters, the Ultra series filters undergo a secondary lapping and polishing process after the initial polishing and bonding stage. This additional step helps to ensure flatness and consistency for improved image quality.

ND 0.9 filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.

Providing a 3-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Attenuates infrared light, as well as visible and UV wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure lengths.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the outside of the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multicoating is water and scratch resistance for greater overall durability.

SCHOTT Superwite glass promotes maintained image clarity and is set within a 5.5mm-thick SuperSlim aluminum filter ring.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the front of this threaded to stack a diffusion filter with?

A: The front threading is mainly for use with a standard pinch type lens cap but it can also accept another filter.

Q: 2. Does it have a hard stop in each end of the scale? And does it have front filter threads?

A: Yes, the Urth 77mm ND64-1000 Variable ND Lens Filter Plus+ (6 to 10 Stop) has hard stops at the end of the scales and also has front filter threads.

Q: 3. What size Push-On lens cap do I need for this filter? The frame of the filter seems to be larger than 82mm

A: If you are planning on keeping the step ring on while you shooting yes you will have to buy an 82mm cap

Q: 4. will PolarPro 82mm ND1000 QuartzLine Circular Polarizer Filter (10-Stop) cause vignetting at 15mm of Canon RF 15-35 F/2.8 lens?

A: The PolarPro 82mm ND1000 QuartzLine Solid Neutral Density 3.0 and Circular Polarizer Filter (10-Stop) will not vignette at 15mm on the Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens (Canon RF).

Q: 5. I plan on using this filter with my canon 70-200mm L series lens. Will I still be able to use the lens hood with this filter?

A: K&F Concept 77mm Nano X-Pro Magnetic ND2-32 (1-5 Stop) Variable Neutral Density Filter is very wide in the front and the lens hood in the Canon 70-200 is very narrow so the lens hood will probably not work with the filter unfortunately.

Q: 6. What is the filter thickness? Not stated in the specs. Thx

A: Screw-on filters like the Polar Pro ND64 QuartzLine do not traditionally specify filter thickness. We measured ours at the store and without the filter threads, the filter measures 6.21mm thick.

Q: 7. How does this compare to the ND1000 without the polarizer? Does adding the polarizer feature have any negative impact on the quality of the ND aspect of it?

A: Having the added polarizer allows you to reduce reflection or glare in addition to reducing the exposure overall.

Q: 8. would this work with the tilta mini matte box if I added an extension ring in there?

A: Yes, It comes with an 82mm adapter ring.

Q: 9. Does this filter have click stops for each ND stop? If so, do the click stops work even when the set screw/knob is removed?

A: No, the filter has no stopping when changing the filter strength. It is smooth throughout, with no hard stop.

Q: 10. Can I stack this filter with PolarPro 82mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND 1.8 to 2.7 Filter (6 to 9-Stop) and have a great result?

A: The PolarPro 82mm ND1000 QuartzLine Solid Neutral Density 3.0 and Circular Polarizer Filter (10-Stop) has front 82mm filter threads so you coudl stack filters. It is never a good idea to stack a variable ND filter with another ND filter. This will reduce image quality.
