The K-Tek Stingray MixPro Audio Bag is designed for Sound Devices MixPre-3 and MixPre-6 recorders with a couple of wireless systems, NP-1 batteries, and various accessories. Also compatible with the Tascam DR-70D and DR-701D, as well as the Zoom F4 and F8, it can help turn your small recorder into a portable workstation with a multitude of options for accessing connectors, controls, and SD card, in various recording environments when working in the field.

The Stingray MixPro features multilayer exterior walls and a rigid vertical frame that allows the bag to better stand on its own, while protecting equipment and providing full access to the sides and bottom of the recorder. The combined front and bottom flap opens wide to access the internal battery packs and media compartments on the bottom of the MixPre units, and can even reattach to the back of the MixPro. It also allows for front-mounting of the recorder to the bottom of a camera.

The removable front pouch storage compartment is large enough to hold NP-1 batteries with cup adapters, while curved zippers encircle each side panel for full access to cabling into the main compartment. MOLLE straps and D-rings offer plenty of rigging points for additional accessories and allow the Stingray MixPro to be connected by harnesses and waist belts (available separately). A built-in kickstand enables the bag to sit at an angle when placed on a tabletop or when resting on the ground.

The Stingray MixPro ships with a shoulder strap and a removable, clear vinyl cover that provides an unobstructed view of the recorder's screen, while shielding it from rain or splashing.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there room anywhere for one or two wireless microphones ?

A: Yes in the front of the bag there's space to clip you wireless receivers

Q: 2. Is there a removable cover for the bottom of the bag if I don't want an open square hole?

A: There is not a removeable cover available for the bottom of the K-Tek Stingray MixPro Audio Bag.

Q: 3. Is it possible to use the Zoom F6 with this bag? Looking for something with more space than the Ktek KSF6.

A: The interior dimensions of the K-Tek Stingray MixPro Audio Bag are 7.5 x 2 x 5" (191 x 51 x 127 mm) and the Zoom F6 Multitrack Field Recorder is 3.9 x 2.5 x 4.7" (100 x 62.9 x 119.8 mm). The MixPro Bag is not thick enough to handle the recorder's 2.5" height. A better option may be the ORCA OR-28 Mini Audio Bag (B&H # OROR28) which has interior dimensions of 8.5 x 6.5 x 4.5" (215 x 165 x 115 mm).

Q: 4. Does the MixPre-3 fit in this bag?

A: Yes, the Sound Devices MixPre-3 will fit in the PortaBrace AR-MIXPRE6 Field Audio Bag for MixPre-6 Recorder. The MixPre-6 is slightly larger than the MixPre-3. The dimensions of the MixPre-6 are 6.5 x 1.4 x 4.6" and the dimensions for the MixPre-3 are 5.7 x 1.4 x 4.3". So the bag is going to be a bit larger than required. As another options, you may prefer the PortaBrace Field Audio Bag for MixPre-3 Recorder (B&H # POARMIXPRE3) which is the same bag, but designed for the MixPre-3.

Q: 5. Good morning, can it be used with the zoom f8n pro recorder?

A: Yes, the K-Tek Stingray KSTGSX Small-X Audio Bag for Sound Devices 833, 888, and 633 Recorders can also accommodate the size of and be used with the Zoom F8n Pro 8-Input / 10-Track Multitrack Field Recorder.

Q: 6. Is this the exact same bag as the older KSTG70 meant for the Tascam DR-70D/701D just with the addition of the front pouch? If not, what are the differences between the two (i.e. interior size, etc.)?

A: This bag is the direct replacement for the KSTG70. It size is practically the same, just slightly bigger in the interior. Interior size this bag- 7.5 x 2 x 5" vs interior of the previous bag- 6.7 x 2.4 x 4.7.

Q: 7. Will this support a large Sony L battery sled in the bottom panel. And is there access to the battery sled and SD card from the bottom of the bag?

A: The bottom of this bag has a cover that is extendable and can be opened and closed with velcro. The cover is long enough fro large Sony battery at lease for one. It does look large enough tho.

Q: 8. does the Sound devices 302 fit in this bag?

A: No the 302 is a larger item.

Q: 9. Will this fit a Zoom F8?

A: The Porta Brace AR-MIXPRE6 is actually designed for the Sound Devices Mix-Pre 6, which happens to be a bit smaller than the Zoom F8. This bag may not work, or be a tight fit. You may consider the Orca OR-28 (B&H# OROR28) instead.

Q: 10. Will this bag accommodate the MP6 with the L-series battery sled (with batteries)?

A: Yes, this K-Tek bag will accommodate the MixPre-6 along with the L-series battery sled and batteries.

There are only a few location sound bag makers. K-Tek materials and sewing is the best in the industry.

I wanted the most compact bag possible for a MixPre. This one will hold some powering options, 2 standard receivers, and a compact timecode system inside the bag.

The front pouch can be detached, and I leave it at home for ultra lightweight projects, like field recording.

There are also windows to use the top and bottom threaded inserts on the MixPre with the mixer between the tripod and a camera.

For heaver projects, it would be nice if the metal rivets could have a threaded insert to attach a bracket to hold a tablet or phone to run script, manage timecode, or provide the Wingman interface. They have that in their newer X-Series.

a great bag for my mixpre-6
one little downside is that it's too sturdy otherwise a great product

I am a independent filmmaker and while I’m good at cinematography, sound is VERY important to me!

I was using ZOOM’s F8 recorder and always eyed sound devices from hired audio guys on my a few of my projects. Listening to my own recordings on the MixPre 6 II, I went crazy!!!

The pre’s are SUPER SUPER CLEAN— even the headphone jack! While zoom had decent pres, still noisy especially compared to this beast.

32 bit float!!! It’s totally worth the money.

I purchased this bag for my MixPre-6 II and it was so easy to get the recorder set up in the bag. The front pouch is perfect for an NP-1 battery and cup, and the molle straps allow for wireless receivers and Comtek transmitter when needed.

This recorder and bag live in my sound design kit for field recording of sound effects, and the compact design makes it extremely easy to carry without being unwieldy.

The built-in kick stand is nice when setting the bag up to record for long periods of time, and the side ports leave plenty of space for XLR connectors and other cable access.

If you need space for things like a BDS, Lectro or Zaxcom receivers, etc., this is not the bag. But for a small run-and-gun kit or for field recording with cabled mics, this is a great solution.

Works well to carry my PreMix-3 and has room for a power bank to power the audio recorder. I like how there are so many ways to open it up and access the different panels on my PreMix.

While it’s not designed for the units specifically, this bag will work well for the smaller Sound Devices 7 series recorders. The front panel is a bit cramped as the bag is a little too narrow, but it’s purely aesthetic and I have no problem getting my fingers on the controls. The bottom flap opens to access the battery and CF card nicely. And no bag designed for the 7 series ever came with a kickstand!
