The Tiffen 52mm 82A Light Balancing Filter helps to increase the color temperature by 200K in order to cool the image slightly in order to match the color quality of illumination. When using an 82A filter, you will be able to attain 3200K balance when the prevailing light source is 3000K. The cooling effect of this filter requires a 0.3-stop increase in exposure for normal results.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Q: 4. What is the difference between close-up lenses and extension tubes? Is one better than the other for close up work?

A: Close-up lenses are less expensive and will allow the use of all electronic functions of the lens. They are like putting a magnifier in front of the lens. However image quality is slightly degraded due to adding another optical element. Extension tubes magnify by increasing lens distance but you will lose some functions of the lens.

Q: 5. are these close-up lens multi element, multi coated?

A: The Tiffen Close-Up Lens set filters are not multi element or multi coated.

A: The Canon 52mm Drop-in Filter Holder is not compatible with the Canon 300mm f/4L IS USM lens, which takes 77mm filters on the front of the lens.

I use them as protection for the lens. I take alot of photos at auto races and you never know what will come flying at you. Better to be safe than sorry.

Seems to work just great. I just took a bunch of photos at 11,000ft - which I think have great contrast and no weird artifacts. Protects the Tamron f2.8 28-75mm zoom lens just fine. So job done!
