The Rycote Stereo Cyclone Windshield Single Mic 1 for Audio-Technica BP4029 (A835ST) is a complete windshield and shockmount system that combines industry-leading wind and shock isolation with ease of setup and use, for the location sound professional. Each kit is individually hand-built in Stroud, United Kingdom, and designed to perfectly complement a single Audio-Technica BP4029 (A835ST) stereo microphone. It includes a Cyclone basket, a model-specific shockmount system with proprietary Lyre microphone suspension and Floating Basket Suspension design, a model-specific Connbox, and an XLR holder on 3/8"-16 threaded base.

The Stereo Cyclone Windshield features an open-shell structure, curved contours, and no straight or parallel surfaces. It delivers a clean frequency response with reduced room-tone effects that characterize conventional tubular designs. Covered with 3D-Tex material and featuring an aerodynamically efficient, asymmetric shape, the basket provides wind-noise reduction comparable to the combined, modular-style, windshield-and-fur cover performance.

The windshield uses the Lyre microphone suspension technology to reduce the bulk of shock and handling noise in combination with the Floating Basket Suspension technology. Together, they prevent natural resonances and vibrations from bypassing the main suspension and radiating from the structure of the basket itself.

The Connbox is redesigned for the Audio-Technica BP4029 (A835ST), with every wire and connector precisely measured to offer maximum performance. To capture the best possible audio at any moment and in any environment, the Z-Locking system allows you to quickly remove or attach the basket with one hand. Reassembly is automatic, and components magnetically snap into perfect alignment.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hello, 1. does it fit with Sennheiser Ambeo Vr? BH #SEAVRM MFR #507195 2. where can I buy a windjammer for this? Thank you.

A: 1. Yes the Rycote Stereo Cyclone Ambisonic 1 is directly compatible with the Sennheiser Ambeo VR 3D Microphone. 2. I am not finding that Rycote offers a compatible windjammer for this.

Q: 2. Can I use short mics like B9audio cm150?

A: Hi Jean. Unfornunately, no: each kit has been specifically designed and calibrated for a specific configuration. You can attempt to use it for other mics, but it is not officially recommended by Rycote and has not been tested at Rycote HQ: purchase will be at your own discretion.

Q: 3. Does this product is compatible with Connbox ? (CB4 for me)

A: Yes, however you would need a small L bracket to mount the CB4, as this lifts the Connbox up away from the bar.

Q: 4. Whats the difference between this and the kit that costs $649?

A: This kit includes just the windshield. It does not include the suspension. Here is the link for the complete kit, which includes the windshield and suspension: https://bhpho.to/3z0ZXcu .

Q: 5. When shooting on a camcorder in the field, if I wanted only the center channel, so I could use the 2nd audio input on the camcorder for a wireless mic or some other input, which of the channels is mid if the mic is set to M/S and NOT doing an internal stereo matrix?

A: It ships with a 5-Pin xlr to 2 3-Pin xlrY-Cable. While It typically it is not marked on the cable which of the 3-pin xlr cable corresponds to which of the capsules, a quick and easy trial and error by independently testing each of the -pin xlr connectors, you should be able to figure it out in no time and with ease. I wish I would have a clear cut answer.

Q: 6. Can any 5-Pin XLR Female to 1/8" 3.5mm Stereo Jack can be used to connect the AT BP4029 to Canon R5 camera? If so, which one do you recommend?

A: The Audio-Technica BP4029 (AT835ST) - Stereo Shotgun Microphone requires power from 3-Pin XLR inputs to operate properly and cannot connect directly to a 3.5mm input on a camera such as the Canon R5. A small camera mixer such as BH #SASRPAX1 Saramonic SR-PAX1 Two-Channel Audio Mixer, Preamp, Microphone Adapter would work to achieve this setup properly.

Q: 7. Position

A: MS for 2 Sennheiser MKH 8040 pair.

Q: 8. would this be a good choice for using the sennheiser mkh8050 or neumann km 185 outdoors?

A: Yes, this windshield would be a good choice for this application. Please note that it is not designed to be fitted over the mic itself, but rather fitted over a Cyclone Windjammer such as BH #RYCWSKS.

Q: 9. Does the cyclone work with any boom pole?

A: I have a boom pole that is 3/8 so i will need to purchase another one with a 5/8

Q: 10. Can i use my Pearl MSH 10 microphone in the small model instead the medium ?Dimension of the microphone is 187mm with the xlr cable the total is 24mm.Because i really want the most compact solution.Thank you

A: Hi Jean-Phillipe, the length of the MSH10 + XLR-5f would be too long for the Cyclone, Small as we don't have a short XLR with 5pin yet. The Cyclone, Medium fitted with a Cb4 Connbox & 30mm Lyres however, would work. Cheers

I have purchased both the BP4029 and AT835ST stereo microphones and primarily use them for outdoor sports audio mixing environments such as baseball, football, soccer, etc. They also serve me really well for gathering ambient sounds, as I do professional audio recordings for TV and radio companies like NPR and National Geographic. You get 3 stereo modes with these microphones: L/R Narrow, L/R Wide, and M/S mode. They reproduce a really great stereo image, that is easily only found sometimes in mics costing $1500-$2000. I have recorded sources 50 yards away, and they come through very clean. My one complaint: wish the manufacturer would provide a thicker windscreen. Comes with a standard windscreen, that doesn't hold up too well, even in low level wind conditions. You definitely need to buy an additional thicker windscreen, windjammer, or windshield kit.

As a documentary storyteller, this thing isn't for everyone. It's more complex than a mono mic, but if you are willing to work through it, the results are outstanding.

I use this primarily as on-camera mic. In that capacity, it uses both of my phantom powered XLR inputs so I need to unplug one when doing interviews with other mics. I also needed to purchase a shorter 5 pin to 3 pin cable to keep my rig tidy. ($70 from DigitalFoto Solution) Handling noise is very low with a good shock mount. It's a bit thicker than most mono mics. A good furry windscreen is essential outside. With all that, my actual cost was closer to $1,000.

There is a switch with 3 important settings:
-Mid/Side
-Stereo Narrow
-Stereo Wide

The Stereo Wide sounds absolutely amazing to me. It's an incredibly accurate recording of the scene just like you were standing there yourself. It feels clean, and immersive. The narrow setting dials down the side audio, but still gives far more depth than a mono mic.

M/S gives you the best of both worlds, as you can adjust the amount of sound coming from the sides in post, but requires a plugin to convert it to Stereo. I use MSED from Vexengo.

So it's not for everyone. The added complexity here is worth it for me, because this thing sounds so good. I don't see or hear the need to look for a more expensive stereo shotgun.

I have a Rode Video Mic and a Sennheiser ME66 short shotgun mic. The BP4029 (AT835ST) is better than both of these mics put together... and then some. Why? Because it can be a mono short shotgun that is VERY loud and focused for its size (just a little longer than the Rode and much shorter than the ME66/K6). It is also a narrow and wide stereo mic AND it is also an M+S matrixed mic that can be easily separated into three channels (Middle and Left and Right) in post production audio editing software. Even with my handy Zoom H4N I can exploit mono, stereo and M+S recording with ease. M+S Matrixing allows you to balance a crowd in loud room with a single voice or a bird's chirping in a tree beside a babbling brook. If you shot with a DSLR and like to travel light, get this and a Zoom H4N - You'll be VERY happy!

Iv'e been using this microphone for at least a decade now, if not longer. Not quite sure. It's been so amazingly dependable, with the most intense quality that when I compare it to things like the Rode or even the 416, this comes out so much ahead, cause it's close enough as a mono source, but having the stereo and M/S if you prefer is just wonderful. I've used this for pretty much everything I've done personally and for my clients. It's been just as rugged and dependable and awesome as anything I've ever seen or gotten. It's just a great all around performer, and yep.. i'm gushing. Get this while you can!

I've had this microphone for about two months, and I am extremely happy with it. I am using it primarily with a Canon XA20, but I have also used it with a Sound Devices MixPre-D, and it works great with both. I have used it on-camera at one wedding, and I am very impressed at how well it can pick out a voice from across a big table during a noisey reception yet still produce a pleasing stereo image. I have used it for interviews, both on-camera and overhead, and I feel like the result is better than a lavalier. On my XA20, I have it mounted (with the supplied O-rings) wih the foam windscreen butting against the camera's microphone holder. It seems quite long, but even with the lens zoomed at its widest, it is not in frame. (However, it does cast a shadow when using the infrared light.) Mounted this way, the front of the microphone does tend to droop down slightly in the holder. The microphone's frequency response curve is not exactly flat. The signal is a little weak in the lower frequencies and hot in the higher frequencies. A male voice could use a little EQ. Self-noise is imperceptible, but ambient room noise is more apparent in stereo than it would be with a mono microphone. Note that because this is a stereo microphone, it has a 5-pin XLR connection (most XLR audio connections are 3-pin monaural). A very well-made adapter cable is supplied that splits to two 3-pin XLR. The cable is 24 long, not including the connectors, which is quite excessive for a compact camera like the XA20.

I am amazed at the natural sound the microphone produces. The options to configure M/S and L/R stereo including narrow and wide are very convenient. The box contains o-rings which I was not aware of. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase.

Just got this mic and immediately started using it for a run-and-gun style feature film and it is a charm! A great field mic for the price! I absolutely love the selectable x/y pattern!!! You can really hear the difference. Very convenient for capturing different types of sound sources, especially on the fly. If you need a solid stereo sound, but don't want to pay big dollar for it? This mic is it!
