The Blackmagic Design HDMI to SDI 6G Mini Converter converts HDMI to SD, HD, 3G, or 6G-SDI in resolutions up to DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) at 24p and UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) up to 30p. This is useful for connecting consumer devices that output HDMI signals with professional SDI video equipment. With a compact form factor and easy-to-use controls, the Mini Converter is ideal for a variety of broadcast, post-production, and professional AV applications.

Using 4K HDMI and 6G-SDI technologies, the Mini Converter automatically detects the input video format and instantly changes between SD, HD, and UHD/DCI 4K formats. The two 6G-SDI outputs also support SD and HD-SDI signals for integration into existing workflows. Both 6G-SDI outputs send duplicate signals. Audio is embedded in the SDI output from either the HDMI input or from the two 1/4" input jacks which support four channels of AES/EBU digital audio or two channels of analog audio.

The Mini Converter's settings are controlled using the built-in switches or via USB using the control software for Max OS X or Windows computers, which can be downloaded on Blackmagic Design's website. The USB port also enables the firmware to be updated.

Q: 1. Can you run the HDMI into a DVI adaptor to use with older Mac monitors being this is RGB out?

A: The HDMI input can be either YUV or RGB so this should work with a DVI-D to HDMI cable.

A: Agree also. Have not noticed any audio delay from video. Use it among other things to drive a large hallway monitor so people outside the worship can watch/listen.

Q: 4. Can the on-board audio jacks be used to de-embed audio signal from the HDMI input to analog audio out.

A: The HDMI to SDI 6G has analog audio inputs for embedding. It does not de embed.

Q: 5. Can anyone confirm that you can actually load your own 3D LUTs into this box? The specs say use built-in 3D LUTS... great are they the only ones available and you are stuck with them or can you load your own? BMD should have been a little more clear on this. Any help would be great.

A: While there is no mention of being able to load new LUTs, the ones that are in there are customization. According to BMD, You can apply custom looks, color and gamma changes in realtime for on-set monitoring. You can still apply LUTs in the more usual places like the camera or in the processing.

Q: 6. Has anyone tried this model with a GoPro to TriCaster?

A: I have used this model on many routers and monitors and never had any issue with the conversion to SDI.

Q: 7. Can this unit allow for color tweaking in the ATEM Control Software with the ATEM Mini?

A: No it does not pass the necessary data from SDI to HDMI.

Q: 8. Will it convert a 4K SDI source to HD HDMI out?

A: Yes, this will convert 4K SDI to HD on the HDMI out.

Q: 9. I plan to use this with a monitor to use the 3D LUT capability. Is there a power button, or way to shut the unit down when the monitor attached is powered off?

A: No, the Mini Converters don't have a power button. You would either need to disconnect it from the power source to turn it off, or connect the power supply to a power switch to easily turn it on and off.

Q: 10. I would like to use my Sony FX1 as a webcam for Skype, Would this work?

A: It will work to convert to SDI. To stream to Skype using Blackmagic gear you could use the Web Presenter instead.
