Q: 4. Which is it? USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C or USB 3.0 Type-C?

I've never had a bad experience with LaCie drives but I formatted this one and then realized it had some free programs on it. Oh well, it's doing a great job of being a Time Machine along with an additional backup folder that I partitioned into it (resulting in the deletion of the aforementioned free programs).

These are super-solid drives for the money. Not the fastest or cheapest but that's not what I need. I have a video company where I edit/work on projects on fast SSD drives, then transfer to the LaCie Ruggeds for archiving long-term. Since 2011, over a few sizes and models, I have only had one drive fail out of around 50 drives. The drive was a few years old when it died- and I traveled to Europe and Asia with me a few times, (it still works but I can't write to it- didn't lose any data thank goodness). Most impressive though was the LaCie I gave to my kid when she was 6 years old. It has fallen out of her back pack so many times.. she is now 13- why/how does this thing still work? Ha ha.. thanks LaCie and B&H.

I'm digitizing my film archives, and this unit has the capacity and convenience to fill that need for me. In fact, all my externals are LaCie Rugged, including the ones I take on the road with me. Compact, lightweight, easy to use.

I go through 7 or 8 external hard drives, ranging from 2 to 14 TB. I edit video in hotel rooms, airports and other odd places as I roadtrip for my job and YouTube channel. I keep coming back to this hard drive because it takes my uploads fast, works well with Final Cut and doesn't fail on sharing or rendering the project as other hard drives do. I also don't have the audio and video lose synchronization as I am editing. That happens a lot with some other drives, especially as they near bring full. Great product!
