The ESI MoCo Passive Monitor Controller not only attenuates volume, but provides input and output switching to different monitor sets. Two sets of inputs can be sent to either of two sets of outputs (no balanced to unbalanced conversion). This way, your audio interface's balanced output can be sent to one of two sets of monitors, or select a secondary audio source to be output via either of those monitors. The front panel contains the large central knob, which drives a high-quality volume potentiometer, input and output selection buttons, plus an L/R switch and mono mixdown buttons.

Q: 2. I think this would be very useful for me, but would'nt expect any "magic". It probably has the characteristic of most level controllers that use potentiometers: at low volumes, balance shifts one way or the other (due to less than 100.000% accuracy in having identical pots). Also, pots probably get dirty (noisy) after a while. Do folks experience these issues with this device? Thank you. DG

A: The ESI MoCo Passive Monitor Controller works just as described and does not add noise to the system. The potentiometer and switches should not get dirty if the environment where it is used is fairly clean and not dusty. If you are concerned about dirt getting inside, simply cover the unit with a cloth or a vinyl or plastic cover like you would use to cover a keyboard when it is not being used. We have had no complaints at all regarding the MoCo, only positive customer reviews which you can read for yourself. Why expect that there will be problems when customers have only reported having a good experience using this device?

Q: 3. Are the XLR and 1/8" stereo mini-jack outputs active at the same time? Could I use the XLR for Left and Right monitors while using the 1/8" stereo mini-jack for a subwoofer?

A: No, the left and right XLR outputs and the 1/8" output are not able to be used at the same time for connecting speakers. You can either use the XLR outputs OR the 1/8" stereo output to connect speakers.

Q: 4. Can you turn off the LED lights on the top panel?

A: There are no controls to turn off the LEDs on the Palmer Monicon L controller.

Q: 5. Can this prevent speaker pop when shutting off console?

A: Yes, leslie h is correct. Using the mute botton or turing the knob to Zero will help prevent popping for you.

Q: 6. Can I just plug it in to my m audio 3 way active speakers and control the volume without a mixer?

A: You can however as it is a passive volume knob you will not have true reference grade monitoring. The shifting impedance will effect the frequency response and stereo image as you turn the volume up and down..... so for editing it is very convenient but for mix critical listening I would go with something that has an active volume control

Q: 7. How is the volume pot travel? Is it smooth or stepped ? Thanks!

A: Smooth as a baby's bottom

Q: 8. My computer has one speaker input jack. Will I need a splitter for a pair?

A: A D'Addario Custom Series 1/8" Stereo Plug to Dual 1/4" Plugs Audio Cable (6') B&H # DAPWMPTS06: https://bhpho.to/3lAHDSc will be required to connect the Mackie Big Knob component to your computer's mini headphone or line output jack.

Q: 9. where is the SPDIF input? useless for me, since i monitor from the digital out of my DAW... the Presonus Central Station has all the analog in and outs plus a SPIDIF/Toslink input.

A: There are NO digital connections (SPDIF):Inputs: Balanced2 x combo XLR-1/4 Aux (unbalanced):1 x TRS 3.5 mm2 x mono RCA ----------------------------------------------------------Output Connectors: 5 x XLR: (4 x balanced; 1 x unbalanced)

Q: 10. Is this suitable for live sound speakers control as well ?

A: You can use it for any passive speakers, meaning that you can not pass power through the controller.
