Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is it ok to use this switch PoE port to connect a computer?

A: No, you can only use the Poe ports out to PoE devices.

Q: 2. Can an individual POE port on this switch be scheduled to turn on and/or off automatically (based on a schedule that you setup)?

A: Unless scheduling has been added as a feature in the Unifi Controller, PoE status can not be scheduled. It is either on or off, with additional features such as indicating whether passive or active PoE and such.

Q: 3. Can a port be downgraded to 24v passive while other ports remain 802.3af like the larger Unify switches or only able to do 48v?

A: Depending on the mode the Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Switch Flex 5-Port Managed Gigabit PoE Network Switch BH #UBUSWFLEX supports 44-57v PoE.

Q: 4. If I have a 24vdc Access point that takes .5 amps will this damage it? I see that it is 1.2amps

A: The amount of current in the scenario you present will not be as critical as the wattage required by the end device. The rating indicates the maximum amperage that can be provided. The primary factor in PoE is wattage.

Q: 5. Can I use this to take one CAT6 cable running from my Dahua NVR and split it into two CAT6 cables so I am able to connect two POE IP cameras using the one line into the NVR?

A: Yes, you can split the POE power to 2 cameras.

Q: 6. can i use this with Ubiquiti Networks UniFi Managed PoE+ Gigabit 8 Port Switch with SFP (150 W) if not any advice which one can i use ?

A: Per Ubiquiti's datasheet for this product, the recommended power methods are the Unifi 50V/60W PoE adapter (not included; BH #UBPOE5060W), and the Unifi USW-24-POE and USW-Pro-24-POE switches. You could use it with the switched you indicated as long as you also use the PoE adapter.

Q: 7. On the 8 port passive POE switch, could you power a POE device and a POE+ device?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks US-8 UniFi 8-Port Gigabit PoE Compliant Managed Switch can only supply PoE power via its single PoE passthough port.

Q: 8. How can this be considered POE when it meets no POE standard? What the heck is Ubiquiti trying to pull here... This won't work for my Dante - Studio Tech gear...

A: This model is POE compatible and does inject some wattage into the line, which may or may not be enough to power all of your devices: Electrical Power Draw 8.0 W DC Input Power 24 VDC at 2.5 A PoE per Port 15 W

Q: 9. Does this switch additional power supply if already connected by PoE input?

A: No, if you connect this switch with POE, you do not need to use the additional power supply.

Q: 10. Can this be seen by a network admin on a ubiquiti network?

A: No, the Ubiquiti Networks NanoSwitch Outdoor 4-Port PoE Passthrough Switch BH #UBNSW would only show all the devices connected since it is an unmanaged switch.

Powering several cameras on a pole in a pasture. Easy to set up, zero issues.

Was able to get two of these units early on and they are amazing. They are simple plug and play switches, nothing to set up, just provide power. Used them for a camera system and they saved me a lot of cable when I wanted to group cameras together.

despite the advantage of running 1 cable and powering 3 devices this switch works well as a line extender. I had exceeded the distance of the Ethernet and was only capable of 10 MBS, with this in the middle I was able to get the full transfer rate of the M5 device. No extra cables to put up just cut existing cable and place this inline.

This outdoor switch is a welcome addition to the Ubiquiti line. Where you have co-located POE cams or an Access Point a a cam it really saves the installation effort of running home runs for each device. I can think of several previous installs where I could have used it. Another application where its handy is where you already have a device installed and you want to add another in the vicinity. Of course theres no set up, no programming - truely plug and play

Please note that it only supports passive 24v, not PoE+.

This works great. Had a little issue with the PoE and connecting up all 4 ports, but figured it out. One of these has been outside on a light pole for over 2 years now, still works great.

Great for adding another device or two at the end of a run. Somewhat sensitive to lightning strikes, based on my experiences, but then most gear is. Easy and cheap enough to replace if needed.

We use these all the time to connect APs, cameras and other devices when we need them to share Passive PoE.
