This 3-stop, Series 9 Tiffen Combination Color Conversion 85/ND Glass Filter will produce natural colors when shooting with tungsten film outdoors. Without any filtration, using tungsten film in daylight will produce a bluish cast in a photograph.

Neutral density filters have several uses and offer the possibility of achieving otherwise unachievable results. Neutral density filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. They have no effect on color balance. Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrast-filled landscapes. Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out, overexposed sky while exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark and underexposed. This filter enables cloud detail to be kept correctly exposed in the picture.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are the stops marked clearly?

A: Formatt Hitech 67mm Firecrest ND 1.8 Filter (6-Stop) is a solid ND so it only blocks 6 stops. A variable ND filter would have marked stops on the ring such as this Tiffen: https://bhpho.to/2SR9RfT

Q: 2. Does this filter fit the Benro master series?

A: I'm sorry, no. The Benro Holder takes 100mm wide filters. You would have to go with the Formatt 85mm filter holder or get the Formatt 13 stop filter, which comes in 100mm.

Q: 3. Does this filter fit Cokin P holder?

A: Unfortunately no. The Formatt Hitech 85 x 85mm Firecrest ND 0.9 Filter B&H # FOFCND.9CP MFR # FC85ND0.9, does not fit the Cokin P Holder.

Q: 4. Will this protect the sensor of a D7000 when taking sunrise, and sun pictures? Will use Live View and not optical for viewing.

A: You will want a 18 stop Solar filter https://bhpho.to/2MFxXFU.

Q: 5. Does this come with pouch or case?

A: Its packaged in a case but the case itself i found too big to stuff in your bag.

Q: 6. Is this nd high enough quality to use with a sony 24mm 1.4 gm or get a tiffen? And is the 6 stop nd a going to let me shoot video at 1.4 in the day time or do i need a high stop nd?

A: The Formatt Hitech 67mm Firecrest ND 1.8 Filter is high enough quality to use with a Sony 24mm 1.4 GM lens, using Schott glass with 15 layers of coating. When shooting video, with the camera set on the lowest ISO possible, set at a 60 fps, this 6 stop ND filter could work at f1.4.

Q: 7. Is this filter stackable with another circular filter?

A: It is with a filter of the same size or with a step up or down ring to the same size in this case 77mm.

Q: 8. Safe for solar eclipse photography?

A: This filter would not be safe for shooting a solar eclipse. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest 100mm Holder Kit with 5.4 (18 Stop) Eclipse Filter B&H # FOFCHKE54100 is a suitable filter.

Q: 9. Can this type of ND filter be used as stack up filter, 2-stop + 4-stop = 6-stop?

A: Yes you can , its always best not to stack filters

Q: 10. What is the difference between this lens filter & the Formatt Hitech Ultra version? [Formatt Hitech 77mm Firecrest Ultra ND 0.9 Filter (3-Stop)] Thanks.

A: The Ultra Firecrest series filters exhibit greater clarity and have lower reflectivity than the original Firecrest filters. Borrowing from the range of Firecrest cine filters, the Ultra series filters undergo a secondary lapping and polishing process after the initial polishing and bonding stage. This additional step helps to ensure flatness and consistency for improved image quality.
