Popular with industry professionals, the MKE 2 omnidirectional lavalier microphone delivers a natural, broadcast-quality sound optimized for speech intelligibility. Its omnidirectional polar pattern ensures that the sound remains consistent, even when the speaker's head moves away from the mic.

To take full advantage of the MKE 2's dynamic range, the system employs proprietary HDX compander technology, preserving your sound without adding unwanted noise during transmission-delivering audio with remarkable accuracy and quality.

The lavalier mic plugs into the locking 3.5mm connection on the compact SK 500 G4 bodypack transmitter. The adjustable input sensitivity on the transmitter accommodates mic levels ranging from booming voices to quiet speech, and even line-level audio.

The rugged, all-metal transmitter features a programmable mute function and can be locked out to prevent accidental changes during a performance. A backlit LCD displays essential information and provides fast menu access. The transmitter syncs to the receiver via infrared with a quick press on the Sync button.

The SK 500 G4 is powered via two AA batteries or a rechargeable BA 2015 Accupack battery (available separately). Side contacts allow for recharging the Accupack without removing it from the transmitter—requires the L 2015 quick-charging unit (available separately).

The robust, metal EM 300-500 G4 receiver offers a high-contrast, black-&-white OLED display. The display uses a streamlined menu system with a jog wheel and dedicated Escape button for quick menu navigation. The display also shows battery status of the associated transmitter.

The system features 20 fixed frequency banks with up to 32 compatible frequency presets and 6 user banks with up to 32 user-programmable frequencies.

To prevent interference, the EM 300-500 receiver's true-diversity reception compares incoming signals on two independent receiver circuits to ensure optimal RF quality.

The built-in equalizer enables you to change the frequency response of the output signal; you can reduce the bass range and boost the treble range. The receiver also offers an adjustable output level range of 48 dB to match the audio input of your mixing board or PA system.

A headphone output with volume control is conveniently located on the front panel, allowing you to monitor your audio signal.

The back panel houses a balanced XLR output as well as an unbalanced 1/4" output. A kit is included for rackmount installation. The unit comes with a universal power supply and EU, US, UK, Korea, Australia, and China adapters.

The receiver features an Ethernet (RJ45) port for network-based remote monitoring and control using the Sennheiser Wireless System Manager (WSM) software (free download available separately). Using your Mac/Windows computer, the software allows you to quickly coordinate frequencies in multi-channel setups, display audio levels at the transmitter, battery status, and more.

The detachable antennas with BNC sockets allow you to create a larger system using up to four EM 300-500 G4 receivers connected to a single pair of remote antennas. This setup requires the ASA 214 active antenna splitter (available separately).

Adding a pair of A 1031-U omnidirectional antennas or a pair of A 2003 UHF directional antennas increases the range of your system and offers increased protection against interference.

Sennheiser offers a variety of lavalier, headset, and handheld microphone options to adapt your EW system as your needs evolve.

  • The lightweight HS 2-ew headset mic provides exceptional clarity in singing and spoken-word applications.
  • The SKM 500 G4 handheld transmitter is available with a multitude of mic capsule options for presenters and performers who prefer the flexibility of a handheld microphone.
  • The Ci 1 instrument cable lets you connect the bodypack transmitter to a guitar or bass.
  • The CL 2 cable lets you connect an XLR line source to your transmitter.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with the MixPre-10 II?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser EW 512P G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System (GW1: 558 to 608 MHz) will work well alongside the Sound Devices MixPre-10 II 10-Channel / 12-Track Multitrack 32-Bit Field Recorder.

Q: 2. What rechargeable battery pack does this take?

A: The transmitter uses the Sennheiser BA2015G2 battery pack and L2015G2 charging station. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/324393-REG/Sennheiser_BA2015G2_BA_2015G2_Rechargeable_Battery.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1367658-REG/sennheiser_k2015_charging_station_with.html

Q: 3. Can you use this receiver with multiple wireless microphones at the same time with each independent frequency? Like using a lavalier and a wireless microphone at the same time.

A: No. This receiver is a single channel so therefore only allows reception of one transmitter at a time.

Q: 4. Will the mic that comes with this (Sennheiser EW 512P) work with the AVX transmitter?

A: Yes. The MKE2 mic is an excellent mic and will work with both the EW512 P and AVX.

Q: 5. The Ew500 G4 uses Lan conection though a switch to a computer but can it be used as a Dante connection. What I would like to do is record each chanel to a DAW on the computer?

A: Hi Mark - the Evolution Wireless series (including the EW 500 G4) in not Dante™ enabled; there are third party options that could enable you to take the analog output signal from the system to convert to a Dante™ connection or you could consider looking into the Digital 6000 series.

Q: 6. Is this pack of Panasonic eneloop pro AA Rechargeable NiMH Batteries (1.2V, 2550mAh, 16-Pack) is compatible with the mics?

A: The Sennheiser SKM 500 G4 Wireless Handheld Transmitter is compatible with Panasonic Eneloop Pro AA Rechargeable batteries.

Q: 7. What are the reasons for choosing one of the frequency ranges (470-558 or 558-608) over the other?

A: It also depends where you will be using the device. You can use sites like https://en-us.sennheiser.com/sifa to find which frequency bands in your target area are free or busy. This will narrow it down. If you travel abroad, certain frequencies may be banned or license only. Worth doing a little research into what you need where you are going.

Q: 8. What's the latency?

A: The manufacturer has not provided any specifications for latency for the Sennheiser EW 512P G4 Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System.

Q: 9. which frequency set is better? and what are the applications of each: A, A1, G?

A: In general, all of the frequency ranges offered for the Sennheiser EW 100 G4-ME2 Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System can be considered equal. One becomes better than the others when assessing factors such as location and other wireless systems existing and operating in the same environment. For instance, some cities have more open channels on a specific range than others. If this system is being integrated into a scenario with other wireless microphones, the existing frequency ranges of those microphones should also be taken into consideration when choosing a frequency for the Sennheiser. This system has 1,680 potential frequencies on each range and the ability to scan for the cleanest channel based on location, so it is hard to go wrong with any range.

Q: 10. Can I split the AF OUT of the EK500 with a 'Y' cable, run one side to my FX6's XLR, the other, to an onboard mini recorder? Thx.

A: Yes, you can use a Y-cable to split the output from a Sennheiser EK 500 Receiver to send the audio to two different devices, like two separate audio recorders, cameras, mixers, etc. You can use a cable like the Saramonic SR-UM10-CC1 3.5mm TRS to Two XLR Male Output Y-Cable for Wireless Mic Systems (B&H # SASRUM10CC1), or use an adapter like the ALZO 3.5mm Female to Dual XLR Male Stereo Microphone Adapter Cord for Pro Camcorders (B&H # AL130) together with the 3.5mm receiver output cable and, if needed, additional XLR cables to extend the length.

I'm not a fan of wireless mics in general... putting them on people, snaking wires through their shirts, dealing with batteries and possible radio interference. But sometimes I have to use them, and this basic set from Sennheiser provides a very solid, professional solution. Sound is clear and clean, batteries last a long time, and build quality seem excellent.

I was previously using the rode wireless go ii and decided it was time for an upgrade. I was missing a feature of being able to control the gain on the transmitter, for those in the same situation I was facing this one lets you and gives you plenty of headroom for peaking! Amazing battery life and a great quality connection really make this product a no brainer.

I do wish there was internal recording and you could recharge it (instead of replacing batteries) but nothing can be perfect.

If you are looking for a simple rock solid option that will give great results, you have found your product!

I've been looking for a wireless or client-worn solution for some time now. I tried the Zoom F1 as soon as it came out, since I've been very happy with the Zoom products I already have (the H6 and F8n), but the self-noise and generally tinny sound made it unusable for me. I then tried the Rode Wireless Go, as soon as I saw some of the ecstatic reviews, but I use an external lav mic which caused interference, a wide-latitude whine which couldn't be targeted with filters. I suppose I could have bought another lav, but, hey, I already have a couple of good ones (Tram TR50's), right?

Then I saw the price drop on this, with another bonus incentive, and grabbed it. It was what I was looking for all along. The sound on this is rich and crystal clear, with a low noise floor, and seems to have really good transmission capabilities. I walked around in the office space here, and went behind a concrete wall, and there was no problem. And it works flawlessly with the lavs I already have (as I say, two Tram Tr50's which fortunately have a battery option, since the 112p system has no phantom power).

I did a test on the battery life, transmitting dialogue and recording - I set a movie on a loop - and the units ran and ran on two rechargeable AA batteries. They finally conked out somewhere between 9 and 11 hours.

I don't have anything to say about the ME2-II microphone, as I haven't used it and don't intend to. I've seen enough online reviews to know that it won't give us the sound we need.

So far, I have no criticisms at all about this unit. It works as well as wiring the mics directly into the F8n. You can tell that these are professional units, built to be reliable.

I have used earlier versions of this mic for several years, both as body mics for theatre, as a means of feeding a signal to a remote speaker in an outdoor event, and for remote recording ambient sounds where I cannot have a cable or obtrusive set up. I have had no trouble with these, ever. I tend to use other mice instead of the one supplied, but that is my preference.

We've just bought our second set -- the first we've had for about two years and love it so much, we thought we'd get another.
