The Stainless Steel Reducer Bushing from Really Right Stuff serves as a an adapter when thread sizes don't coincide with each other. For example, certain tripod heads will not attach because the threaded slot is larger than the tripod mount, so the bushing reduces the 3/8"-16 thread down to a 1/4"-20 size allowing the head to attach. Because of the flathead screwdriver slot, the bushing can be easily removed to convert the mounting thread to its original size.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How is camera twist prevented when using this product? The anti-twist feature does not work.

A: This is meant to be used with RRS plates with the lip to prevent any sort of lens twist. On a larger lens foot with two 1/4'-20 screw holes, you can put in both screws to prevent twist.

Q: 2. Is any one using the 2.9 version of this as a lens foot plate on a Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR Lens? If so, do you recommend it?

A: For that lens I have been using for years the RRS replacement foot which is great. I have used this style of plate for other lenses which do not have a specific Foot replacement. It works but is not as nice as if it was a foot replacement.

Q: 3. It's height is 0.79 .Is it a full height (including top screw) or black painted part only ?

A: The black base is about 0.75 .The attached thread is about 0.25 in length.

Q: 4. The item pictured is the older, discontinued version of the 192mm / 7.6 Multi-Purpose Rail. Is this the older version pictured? Or is the picture inaccurate and this is the new, updated version?

A: This item is the currently available, latest version, of Really Right Stuff's 192mm rail (7.6 ). It is not discontinued and still sold via their site and ours.

Q: 5. I have a Burke & James 8x10 view camera built between 1900 and 1920. The bottom of the camera has two holes 4.4" apart that take 1/4 " screws. Does this device allow one to screw two screws into the base of my camera, essentially adapting my camera to fit a sturdy tripod with a mount for only one screw (as like any modern day tripods out there)? Thanks!

A: Really Right Stuff 4.4" Multi-Purpose Rail is 4.4 inches long, but the screws are not that far apart from each other. I would recommend getting a longer plate like this one. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1301200-REG/really_right_stuff_mpr_1_rail_multi_purpose_rail_6_152mm_with.html

Q: 6. Will this work with the QD strap swivel--is there a qd socket?

A: There is no QD socket on the Really Right Stuff 4.4" Multi-Purpose Rail (1/4"-20).

Q: 7. Does it work for Canon EF 100-400 mm lens?

A: Yes, the Really Right Stuff 6" Multi-Purpose Rail (1/4"-20) is compatible with the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens.

Q: 8. RRS mentions the use of both anodized aluminum and hardened steel. Is the ball (and the integrated stem) made of aluminum or steel?

A: The ball and its stem are one solid piece of steel that has been treated with a FNC (ferritic nitrocarburizing) finish.

Q: 9. Is there a QD socket on the rail?

A: No theReally Right Stuff 4.4" Multi-Purpose Rail (1/4"-20) BH #REMPR113RAIL • MFR #MPR-113 RAIL does not have a QD socket.

Q: 10. I was tossing up between this and the BC-18. I find the BPC-16 more appealing due to the ability to pan and rotate it 90 degrees. But I read a review that said in practice the 90 degree rotation does not work on larger cameras as the small size of the ballhead does not leave enough room for the camera to rotate. The tripod body get in the road. He recommends the BC-18 as a much better ballhead. I was interested whether others have had difficulty in rotating the head 90 degrees to portrait mode?

A: The BPC-16 can only hold up to 5 lbs, so using it with a larger camera may cause some issues with rotating the head to portrait mode. This would make the BC-18 a better head if you don't need the panning function and are using a heavier camera.
