This 49mm Tiffen Water White Glass NATural IRND Filter is a neutral density filter with a 32x filter factor that provides a 5-stop exposure reduction. Its 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters are intended to not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and to promote nearly flat attenuation of visible light and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times.

This filter is noncoated, is constructed from Water White glass for increased clarity, and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How many light steps does it represent?

A: The Vaxis VFX 95 IRND 2.1 Filter for Tilta Mirage Matte Box would reduce the light by 7 stops.

Q: 2. I do not see a high transmission ultra-slim or low profile version of this filter. Will this polarizing filter cause vignetting with wide angle lenses?

A: when using wide angle lens we highly suggest using filter with slim profiles to avoid vignetting.

Q: 3. I have this filter in the 55mm size but the lens caps that I have will not stay on for more than a few seconds, the slightest pressure on them pops the cap off the lens. Anybody find a lens cap brand/model that works with this filter?

A: The Sensei 55mm Center Pinch Snap-On Lens Cap is compatible with the Tiffen 55mm Digital HT (High Transmission) Circular Polarizing Multi-Coated Filter.

Q: 4. What’s the transmission value of this filter? Thanks

A: Filter Factor 2.3x (1.2-Stop) to 2.8x (1.5-Stop)

Q: 5. How does this compare to the wide angle low profile filter that is about $40 cheaper? Which one is recommended for videography/filmmaking?

A: The wide angle version is meant for wide angle lenses to prevent vignetting. Otherwise, both versions have the same purpose in mind.

Q: 6. I'm looking for a 62mm polarizing filter for a 18-250 zoom I recently bought at B & H, on top of wanting a decent one I want one with a solid lens cap, I will be leaving this on the lens allot and a good filter is not much use if it is dirty or scratched. I previously bought B+W that had a useless plastic cap that would not stay on. Will the sigma lens cap attach to this or does it come with a decent one?

A: The Tiffen 62mm Digital HT (High Transmission) Circular Polarizing Multi-Coated Filter is front threaded at 62mm's so you will be able to use the Sigma lens cap as designed.

Q: 7. Would combining one of these with the Tilta Mirage's VND filter cause issues? I realize these are IRND and the VND is not, but I'm thinking I may sometimes need more than the 2.7 stops the VND offers.

A: Using the Vaxis VFX 95 IRND 1.5 Filter for Tilta Mirage Matte Box with another ND filter will increase internal reflections from the layers of glass, but it can be done.

Q: 8. Is this filter recommended for digital cameras as well, like the Lumix FZ200?

A: Yes, the Tiffen 52mm Digital HT (High Transmission) Circular Polarizing Multi-Coated Filter is compatible with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 Digital Camera and would fit onto the 52mm filter threads on the front of the lens, and would be recommended for usage to reduce or eliminate glare and reflections from non-metallic items and (depending on your position and the position of the sun) can also darken/deepen the blue in the sky on blue sunny days. By removing glare, it would also slightly increase teh color saturation and contrast of your image.

Q: 9. Will a lens cap fit over this filter? And is it waterproof?

A: The filter will accept a 58mm lens cap. This filter is not waterproof.

Q: 10. What is the thickness of the 77mm Digital HT (High Transmission) Circular Polarizing Multi-Coated Filter by Tiffen? I plan to use it on a 17MM lens and want to make sure there is no vignetting.

A: The Tiffen 77mm Digital HT (High Transmission) Circular Polarizing is about 3mm thick.
