This 52mm Tiffen Water White Glass NATural IRND Filter is a neutral density filter with a 2x filter factor that provides a 1-stop exposure reduction. Its 0.3 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters are intended to not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and to promote nearly flat attenuation of visible light and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times.

This filter is noncoated, is constructed from Water White glass for increased clarity, and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do I need a filter holder for an Hoya nd filter?

A: No, this filter screws on to the lens.

Q: 2. Will this vignette with 7.5mm ultrawide Laowa lens?

A: You will get some vignetting when using this filter on the 7.5 but can be corrected in post.

Q: 3. Is this filter stackable? And what does the 106M mean in the name?

A: Yes I have stacked them with no visible lose to optical quality.

Q: 4. how can I tell what size screw on sense I need for my specific size lenses?

A: The thread pitches are all the same. All you need to do is make sure the diameter of the lens (usually marked on the lens with a number and a circle with a line across it) is the the same is the size filter that you want to fit on it. For example, Nikon 70-200mm have a 77mm fitting so you'll need a filter that is 77mm in size.

Q: 5. Any vignetting when mounted on a Zeiss 15mm lenses?

A: Depending on the sensor size of the camera, you may experience vignette using this polarizer on a 15mm lens.

Q: 6. Does this filter case any noticable vignette?

A: No.

Q: 7. Do these filters come with a front filter thread so you can attach a CPL Filter?

A: Yes, it has a 82mm front thread.

Q: 8. How do you clean this without damaging the multi coating?

A: Use this ZEISS Lens Care Kit BH #ZELCK2

Q: 9. Is the MRC worth the additional investment? I do have the 10 Stop MRC and 1 single coated 3 stop both are great.

A: There is an improvement. How much is hard to say. Whether or not is worth it, is a subjective question. We do not know your budget, how often you may use it, etc. If you are happy with current results, then perhaps not.

Q: 10. Is this filter too dark to focus / compose with the filter already mounted?

A: It depends of course on the amount of ambient lighting in your shot. My work flow is to focus first, shoot to check focus, exposure, and composition. You really need to see the image properly expose before adding the filter. Then I shoot a few images with various shutter speeds with the filter on. Eventually you will become intuitive about your exposure times.
