The Aurora(ⁿ) 16 USB from Lynx Studio Technology is a mastering-grade 16-channel AD/DA converter which supports up to 24-bit/192 kHz conversion and comes with a preinstalled LT-USB USB 2.0 interface. It offers significant performance and flexibility improvements over the company's well-regarded line of Aurora converters, providing an even greater level of wide-open, uncompressed, and unequalized audio for studios, mastering facilities, remote recording, broadcast, live performance, or production installations.

The Aurora(ⁿ) 16 USB combines Hilo-like technology with the latest FPGA processors, to achieve greater transparency and reduction of both noise and distortion. One word clock input and three outputs let you use the unit as a master clock or slave it to an external clock. In addition, the Aurora(ⁿ) is equipped with an LSlot expansion bay which allows for a wide array of current connectivity options such as Thunderbolt, Dante, Pro Tools | HD, and USB, but can also be used to add more channels and additional hardware, as your production needs evolve.

Other features include an on-board microSD player/recorder capable of up to 32 channels of direct recording and playback, ideal when working in the field. Two headphone outputs with independent volume control let you monitor your sound with audiophile-grade precision, while a bright LCD display gives you immediate access to all levels and functions, right from the front panel.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this convert 16 channel analog input as well as 16 channel ADAT input at the same time to Dante?

A: The high-density converter provides 16 x 16 balanced analoge TRS-I/Os and can handle pro studio levels up to +20dBu – adjustable in 1 dB steps. Optional +24 dBU I/Os and/or CV outputs are available. Combined with a temperature-compensated high-precision clock and an active jitter reduction hardware design, the 354-channel DX delivers an exceptional detailed sound. On the digital side, the multi-format device provides an optical MADI I/O with 64 I/Os. 2 x 4 ADAT ports can convert all 16 analog I/Os – even with up to 96 kHz. On top of it, the DX adds 64 x 64 channels (bi-directional transmission and port redundancy) of Dante/AES67 to an already impressive array of various I/Os – unique in this size and price range. The Pulse16DX incorporates a Word Clock I/O and a MIDI I/O for embedding signals and remote control of the unit. Many popular features from the flagship A32 have been added as well: Preset Management, Panel Lock and the sophisticated routing matrix. The PULSE16 DX provides a sophisticated internal matrix for the free routing and splitting of all 176 Ins to all 176 Outs in blocks of 8 channels. The headphone output on the front allows it to monitor every mono or stereo I/O directly on the unit.

Q: 2. Can this be used in place of a mic activator, such as a cloud lifter ?

A: Yes, you can use the TubeOpto instead of a Cloudlifer. The TubeOpto can be used with dynamic and condenser microphones while the Cloudlifter is specifically for use with dynamic mics. The Cloudlifer has a passive design that uses phantom power from the mic input you connecting to and can add up to 25 dB of clean gain. The TubeOpto does much more than just add clean gain since it is fully featured tube-based mic preamp. Its eight channels each have their own input and output gain controls which can add up to 70 dB of clean gain as well as additional features to shape the sound.

Q: 3. I have a PreSonus StudiLive AR12 mixer. Would I be correct in saying that this sits before the mixer in the chain? So mic into this channel, channel out to the mixer. If so would I bring it in as a mixer channel insert? Thanks everyone!

A: You could use it as in insert, but you would use the AR12 mic input, which would defeat the purpose of having an external preamp. The better way is to connect your mic to the preamp and then connect the preamp to one of the line/instr inputs on channels one or two on the AR12.

Q: 4. I'm planning use same speakers for HTPC and turntable. Can I use that device as some kind of pre / pro with turntable when my HTPC will be switch off? And if answer is yes then how can I set up volume?

A: The The Aurora 16 USB from Lynx Studio Technology will not operate in standalone mode. A more appropriate device for your HTPC setup would be the RME Fireface UFX II USB Audio Interface; B&H# RMUFX2.

Q: 5. I'm using Cubase as DAW and Fireface UC . Can I connect Art TubeOpto 8 to Fireface and control/record all to Cubase?

A: Yes you can. I recommend attaching the Art via the ADAT out optical port to the ADAT in port on the FireFace. That will send all 8 channels digitally to the FireFace for recording into Cubase.

Q: 6. Can 2 Frontliners be connected for stereo operation of the processing modules?

A: Unfortunately the Frontliner is designed as a single channel unit with no linking features for dual or stereo operation.

Q: 7. What is this? Not sure. It does not even have a USB interface. Why does it show up here under AUDIO INTERFACES then?

A: Hello,This is an 8 channel preamp that you can connect to an interface via ADAT (Optical)

Q: 8. Will this work with my older Impact PowerSync 10 Transmitter?

A: I can't really say that it can. It's been my experience that when I've tried mixing receiver and triggers it dosen't work out.

Q: 9. Can this be mounted directly to Furrion tv's?

A: Yes, the Furrion Aurora 70W 2.1-Channel Outdoor Soundbar with Built-In Subwoofer (B&H # FUFSBNN30MST) can mount directly to Furrion TVs with the Peerless-AV Universal Sound Bar Mounting Kit for up to 80" Displays (B&H # PEACSBR2), or something similar.

Q: 10. Is the output signal truly FULLY balanced, i.e. is there both a (+) and out-of-phase (-) signal?

A: Yes, the outputs are fully balanced
