This 77mm Tiffen Water White Glass NATural IRND Filter is a neutral density filter with a 8x filter factor that provides a 3-stop exposure reduction. Its 0.9 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By increasing your aperture or slowing your exposure time, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters are intended to not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.
The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and to promote nearly flat attenuation of visible light and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times.
This filter is noncoated, is constructed from Water White glass for increased clarity, and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. hi half the comments say it does X half don't - so which is it ? Yes or No ??
A: Typically most variable nd filters have an x effect and or a color bias when used at the full nd setting. As a rule of thumb, you should stop short of the max and maybe go to about 2 stops lower than the max of the filter. For example if a variable nd filter goes to 10 stops, it would be advisable to shot at 8 stops or below.
Q: 2. Can you tell by feel, like a notch or something when you rotate for densities with is filter...If not which one has that you would recommend w/o breaking the bank to much?... Thanks in advance..
A: There are no notches or clicks as you rotate the filter. Rotation is smooth. I haven't used the filter in a large number of instances yet, but other reviewers have spoken highly of the lack of color shift. It is a hunk of glass, well built and most likely worth the investment. I chose it as a middle cost point with satisfied users.
Q: 3. I've got 3 Canon lenses each with 67mm on the filter end. Does it make any sense to buy 77mm Eclipse filter and a step-up ring 67-77 (just to cover the range of lenses that I maybe will plan to buy someday) ? I'm very afraid I can get vignetting with this setup because I often shoot with wide-angle (10-18mm focal length, APS-C). Or maybe the right way is to take 67mm model of Eclipse?
A: I purchased one Eclipse Variable ND filter and step up rings to use with my Nikkor lensesand have found it to be a good choice. Vignetting is not a problem for me and I have been pleased with the results. Especially in motion film work.
Q: 4. will this fit the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM Zoom Lens for Canon DSLRs with APS-C Sensors?
A: YES IT WILL FIT.
Q: 5. The photos show the filter has a very green tint. Is the filter green or is it neutral?
A: The SmallRig 77mm MRC Variable ND Filter is not a green filter. It is a varible ND filter.
Q: 6. Hi, I would like to know if it is compatible with the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical IF Lens for Sony E-Mount . It says the filter thread is 72, so is my other lens (Soney Zeiss 35mm FE 1.4 Distagon) . But I have heard somewhere that this ND filter fitted these lenses... Can you help please?
A: The 85 mm lens has 72 filter size
Q: 7. Are there front threads on this filter for use with a lens hood? Also, does it work as a screw in filter on the SmallRig mini matte box? If so, are adapters needed?
A: Yes. The following filter does offer front end threads.
Q: 8. does this filter fit on the nikkor 70-300 f4.5-6.3 lens for nikon cameras?
A: The Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR Lens uses a 58mm filter in front. The NiSi 58mm Natural Night Filter is a better choice. https://bhpho.to/3juKIAh
Q: 9. Does this have hard stops?
A: Hello Michael, The Variable ND Filter does not have hard stops. The nature of this type of filter will not have incremental hard stops, and the MIN and MAX marks on the rings are used as a guide.
Q: 10. Are Minimal = 2 stops and Max = 8 stops? How do I read the marks on the ring to know 2/4/8 stops?
A: When I am using the Eclipse I never worry about what stop I am using. What difference does it make? All I am interested in doing is getting it dark enough to be able to slow down my shutter speed so that I can get the effect I want. I never have to change filters if the 2 stop or 6 stop isn't enough, I just rotate the filter. Don't think about what number it is just use the the darkness you need. Hope this helps.
