Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this be used on a Canon Pro 9000 series?

A: The CLI-42 cartridges are for the Canon Pro-100. For the Pro 9000, you want CLI-8 cartridges. I've read they are nearly the same in size and shape, but electronically different.

Q: 2. I Couldn't Find Any Information On The Volume/ Size Or The Color Page Yield For Any Canon GI-23 Ink Colors. I Also Even Looked At The Pictures To See If The Box Or Bottle Showed The Volume/ Size On It But It Didn't. What Is The Volume/ Size Of The Canon GI-23 Red, Gray, Black, Magenta, Yellow, Cyan Ink? Are These Ink Bottles The Same Size As The Ink Bottles That Comes With The Printer?

A: They have 57ml of ink and they are the same same that comes with the printer initially. Canon does not estimate a number of prints for photo printers because each photo using different amounts of ink Text printing has less variables so they offer estimated pages for text printers.

Q: 3. What is the approximate shelf life of an unopened bottle?

A: The Canon GI-23 Gray Ink for PIXMA G620 Printer has a shelf life of 18-24 months if unopened.

Q: 4. I Couldn't Find Any Information On The Volume/ Size Or Even The Color Page Yield For Any Canon GI-23 Ink Colors.

A: As per Canon's website, the Ink bottle has 57 mL inside. As for how many pages it yields, that will depend on how much printing you will be doing.

Q: 5. does this work with my android smartphone?

A: I think your question is related to print from a smartphone and the '8 tank ink package' is only the ink in the printer. I have not tried the print from smartpone but there is too many opinions of paper type, size and printer color management selections to fit in the screen of the smartphone.

Q: 6. Is this ink archival?

A: ChromaLife (CLI) inks from Canon are dye based. Canon's pigment based inks start with PGI/PFI. The Pixma Pro-100 used the CLI- dye based ink. Pixma Pro-10 and imagePROGRAF PRO-100 use pigment based inks. Generally, the pigment based inks resist smudging better, and hold up longer under UV light. It's expected that Pigment inks should resist fading for 200 years, where as dye based inks will start to fade in as little as 25 years. Actual results, however, depend on the conditions. Prints which are stored specifically for archival purposes away from light and in controlled conditions will last significantly longer than prints on display particularly in bright areas. Using UV protective glass can enhance the life. Canon claims, ChromaLife (CLI) inks when used in conjunction with specific Canon photo papers, and stored properly in an archive quality album and kept in the dark can last up to 300 years. And when can be displayed indoors in areas out of direct sunlight for between 10-50 years. Other considerations are that Pigment based inks generally provide for a sharper image with darker blacks, however as they have larger particles, introduce more texture to an image. Pigment based inks would be very well suited for high contrast black and white prints, and photo's with dark areas with high detail. Dye based inks having smaller particles so lay flatter on the paper to provide a print that more closely resembles traditional darkroom prints. Images with dye based inks tend to be brighter and more vivid. As you'll note with the printer spec's, when comparing printers that use dye versus pigment based inks, you'll generally be able to achieve higher resolution prints with dye based inks due to the smaller particle size. Canon has improved the quality of its ink's significantly over the years, and the differences noted above between Pigment and Dye based inks is minimal. For most amateur photographers either option will provide good quality lasting results for many years. For my own purposes, I feel the dye based Canon ChromaLife inks are sufficient. I do not aim for long term archival, but do print photos which are stored in an album/portfolio, as well as framed and displayed in normal household and business spaces behind UV protected glass. I personally feel, given that I already archive the digital images, should I ever need to I can always re-print the image in 20-30 years should I need to.

Q: 7. What type of developer and fixer is needed ?

A: Rollei suggest the following chemicals for the Rollei Black Magic High Contrast Liquid Emulsion (300mL). For developer they suggest Rollei RPN, for universal application, Rollei RHC, for steeper grade. For the Fixer you can use Rollei RXA or RXN. We have the Rollei Black Magic High Contrast Liquid Photo Emulsion Kit which has all the necessary chemicals, BH #RO661231 (https://bhpho.to/3Amj0yO).

Q: 8. How many ml of ink are in this cartridge?

A: This is not something the manufacturer has provided, or in many cases willing to give out.

Q: 9. Does anyone know why the PB tank is not included in this set?

A: This choice of color pack is designed for people who are printing photos. The pigment black is used only for printing documents.

Q: 10. Will this eyecup crop out part of the image from view? Will it lose sharpness around the edges leaving it only visibly sharp in the center?

A: Yes, because it is zooming in on the image it will crop out the view on the edges. The LCD would be able to display the full image if needed.
