Both fast and wide, the Sony E-mount 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM from Sigma is a unique wide-angle prime designed to produce high-resolution, well-corrected imagery. As part of the Art line of lenses, this lens has a focus on image quality and rendering, and utilizes both FLD and SLD glass elements to control chromatic aberrations and color fringing for notable clarity. Four aspherical elements, including the front large-diameter precision-molded glass element, also contribute to reducing distortion and spherical aberrations for improved sharpness and accuracy. Additionally, a Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress lens flare and ghosting for greater contrast when working in strong lighting. Well-suited to astrophotography and low-light outdoor shooting, this lens presents a unique blend of a broad perspective and fast, flexible performance.

Complementing the optical performance is an equally adept Hyper Sonic Motor, which provides fast, smooth, and near-silent autofocus performance. This focusing motor also enables full-time manual focus override at any time just by rotating the focus ring for refined manual control and focusing as close as 10.6". The lens barrel is constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite material, which supports working in a wide variety of temperatures and conditions, and the lens mount is constructed from brass for long-term durability and mounting accuracy.

As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.

Prime wide-angle lens is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however it can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 21mm equivalent focal length.

Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low and difficult lighting conditions.

Three F Low Dispersion (FLD) and four Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design, and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.

Four aspherical elements, including one large, 80mm-diameter precision-molded glass aspherical element, help to minimize distortion and spherical aberrations for improved sharpness.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

The integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) realizes quick and quiet autofocusing, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

The lens is constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material, along with traditional metals, for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations.

The bayonet mount is constructed from brass for ensured accuracy and durability. Additionally, rubber sealing is incorporated in the mount design to render it dust- and splash-resistant.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the Haida M15 filter system fit on this lens?

A: Yes, please see the Haida M15 Filter Holder For Sigma 14mm F1.8 Art Lens (BH #HAHD4560): https://bhpho.to/39ehJx8 If you need just the adapter (because you already have the holder) that would be the Haida M15 Filter Holder Adapter Ring for Sigma 14mm Art Lens (BH #HAHD4334): https://bhpho.to/3ooRYRk

Q: 2. Can I use this on my Nikon D300?

A: Thank you for your interest in Sigma products. The Nikon mount version of this lens includes an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism. Therefore, please make sure both lens and the camera have the latest firmware before using it on your camera.

Q: 3. can i use this on my canon 80d?

A: Thank you for your interest in Sigma products. Yes, you can use it on your Canon 80D.

Q: 4. Does anybody have test shots showing stars in the corners? I’m mostly curious about Coma at f/1.8 since one review complains about coma while another claims there is no coma.

A: Wide angle lenses with low f-stop tend to have some chromatic aberration

Q: 5. Will this lens fit on a canon eos R?

A: Yes, with the EF-RF adapter.

Q: 6. Will this focal length result in vignetting on a full frame camera? I currently have a Tokina 11-20mm and it vignettes hard below 16mm.

A: DG is Sigma's full frame series, the DC is their cropped sensor series. The lens displays a slight amount of vignetting in the corners when shot wide open at f/1.8, which is corrected with Lightroom when using the lens profile.

Q: 7. Anybody have a good solution to use Vari ND filters on this lens?

A: Unfortunately there is not yet a holder that can accommodate a variable ND filter for this lens.

Q: 8. Will it vignete on a gh5 with MBSB XL 0,64?

A: This is a full frame lens. If you are using it on a Speedbooster Adapter it should not vignette.

Q: 9. For Leica SL2, Is this lens better than Leica 16-35 regarding colors and distortion? Thanks

A: The Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art Lens for Leica L would be a prime (fixed focal length) lens, whereas the Leica Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 16-35mm f/3.5-4.5 ASPH. Lens would be a zoom lens. The two lenses are not often compared to one another. Unfortunately, we have not yet seen any comprehensive lens test comparing the above two lenses for distortion and chromatic aberration or color performance.

Q: 10. What Filter diameter does the lense have?

A: it has a special dedicated filter that attaches at the other end of the lens. fancy, I just learned this, so I'm guessing no thread

I borrowed the lens once and i just bought it
I wanted to shoot some Christmas pictures in New York last year.
I can only say, Incredible sharpness, and quality
I had the lens on my Sony a7iii and I was absolutely satisfied
And for those who complain, no lens is perfect. But this quality of what the lens delivers, is absolutely great
You can find me on Instagram, and look for the Christmas pictures

I have a soft spot for very wide lenses, and rectilinear ones are the cream of the crop. They are also complicated to make, especially if you want them fast, especially if you want the end result to be even remotely affordable.

Unless you can afford the insane lenses used on - for example - The Revenant, you're shopping in Canon EF 14mm 2.8 territory. That trusty old workhorse of a lens already fetched around 2K and displayed weird chromatic aberration wide open, so I was very curious indeed when Sigma announced a rival lens 1.5 stops faster and at 60% of the cost. From reviews I gathered some cash must have been saved on proper weather sealing, but all other things being slanted in this one's favor (on paper at least) I decided to give it a spin. Wow!

Goodbye Canon, hello Sigma! Unless you're going to leave your camera exposed to cruel elements for hours on end (night-time outdoor astral time-lapses for example), there is no competition here. Distortion is almost non-existant. Corner sharpness is comparable and center sharpness gives Sigma the edge... Especially when open an extra full stop and a half! This is just madness... If you want to know what restricted depth of field looks like at these focal lengths, here's your only place to find out.

I couldn't be happier with it, especially since I pretty much bought it with the cash from my used Canon 14. This is a little treasure of a lens and I will be following the Sigma Art line with great interest in the future!

Actually I’m in Iceland as I write this and wow. I had initially purchased this lens for astrological photos i.e., NorthernLights and Milky Way, but it is working fantastic as a landscape lens. Worth the money. As a side note B&H is great they ship quickly and by the fastest route. I ordered another item from their online competitor and it took almost a week. Use the best and forget the rest as my grandma use to say

After searching and using lenses that offer the best quality when it
comes to landscapes and astrophotography, this lens is astounding. Even though I'd prefer using an A7RIV, my A7III performs very well with this lens.
Although somewhat pricey and a little heavy, picture quality is tack
sharp. Out of all the lenses I have tested over the years, this one
seems to be my favorite hands down.

IMO this lens is built for one purpose only: astrophotography. In other words, if you are looking for a versatile ultra-wide-angle lens capable of multiple tasks, this 14mm F/1.8 Art is not what you want (and get a 11-24, 14-24, or 16-35 instead). This lens is so specialized in astrophotography that honestly it will likely be sitting in your dry cabinet for a long time. However, for anyone who craves for the Milky Way above us, this is your Eye of Sauron.

The Sigma 14mm lens is a well made, sharp and very rectilinear lens and well worth the money.

There are a couple of gotchas… the lens is big and heavy and not something you can throw in a camera bag just in case.

There's no aperture ring but autofocus can be turned off and the lens used with manual focus… that being said, at 14mm, almost everything is going to be in focus.

Apart from astronomy, few are going to really need ƒ1.8 and it would be nice if a smaller, lighter version was available at a more sensible ƒ2.8.

Finally, we measured the angle of view at more like 105º than 114º which is not unusual with lens manufacturers though it could be partially down to the camera's viewfinder.
