Fits well. Design is robust. Probably would come off readily with thin winter gloves on. Spring is stiff enough to hold but it comes off quickly. Not sure how quick I need to be with a 500mm manual focus lens. 5

Lens caps: Such a simple necessity and yet consistently so poorly designed! Until the Sigma, every other OEM lens cap I have used featuring a center pinch design has been miserably difficult to use: One reaches into the lens hood to pinch and remove the cap, and the points of finger contact are so slippery that it pops out of one's grasp and flops about over the lens before one can extricate it. I believe those designers never, ever used it themselves, and the executives couldn't be bothered with quibbles such as performance and convenience on lowly basics. I'm looking at you, Canon and Rokinon.... But the Sigma IS graspable: little ridges parralel to the cap on the pinch mechanism allow your fingers the pleasure of a positive grip. One can positively release and lift the cap away from the lens without scrabble or drop. The cap is well designed, fits securely on any lens with standard filter threads of matching diameter, is NOT exhorbitantly priced (it's a friggin plastic cap, get over your bad selves You Who Charge Huge Prices for Bits of Molded Plastic!), seals just as well as any OEM cap, and is reasonable robust: I dropped mine on a concrete floor when I opened the package, and it was unscathed. 5

What can I say, I just bought the 50 MM 1.4 art prime and lost the lens cap first time out. Wanted original branded replacement. It fits nicely. 5
