The Quick Release Plate for Sony a7R III with VG-C3EM Vertical Grip from Acratech has an Arca-type compatible dovetail mount, and on the backside edge of the plate runs an anti-twist lip, which prevents any movement between the camera and the plate. Moreover, the quick release plate attaches to the bottom of the vertical grip via the 1/4"-20 camera mounting stud.

A: The grip replaces (fills) the space of the battery in the camera - you can now have one or two batteries in the grip. As they weigh almost nothing, carrying two batteries in the grip is the best strategy - they'll automatically switch over when the first one is exhausted. You get real-time percentage charge available display in the viewfinder.

A: My answer is the same as everyone elses! No batteries with the battery grip!

A: The Sony VG-C3EM does not include a battery.

A: The answer below that states you can charge both batteries in a couple of hours is inaccurate. The official Sony external charger (the fastest way to charge) takes 150 mins for ONE battery, and it supplies about double the amount of power to charge the battery as the camera does (13 watts vs 7.4 watts). If both of your batteries are completely dead, youre looking at overnight to charge both... in the range of 10 hours. Youre better off buying either the official sony charger (charges two in 5 hours) or one of the available third party dual chargers that can charge both simultaneously, as theyre just a bit slower than the official sony at about 6 hours. That said, if you dont drain your batteries all the way to zero, then it takes significantly less time to charge them.

The grip makes the camera much nicer to hold. It fits snug and feels like part of the camera. The gap between the camera and the grip that others have mentioned is very very small. You have to hold it at just the right angle and really look for it to see it. Sure the battery door could be better, but when it's closed it's solid and I don't think it will break during use. I generally wish everything on Sony cameras was a little more heavy duty. 5

The vertical grip does what its name implies and a whole lot more. It allows me to easily hold the camera for vertical / portrait shots but it also replicates the important buttons and functions I need when reorienting the body. After years of DSLRs I find the A9 tiny in my big hands so the grip enlarges the footprint for a more natural grip as well as giving me a place for two active batteries. The weight of the batteries also helps balance out the lighter than DSLR body with my 70-200 lens, giving a much more balanced feel. 5

the vertical grip is a perfect match for the a7r iii camera. �the extra battery is a plus knowing I don't have to stop to replace a battery during a long photo shot. �I have four the battery grip balances out the over unit. �I added an L-bracket for Really Right Stuff �which makes the setup a dream to use. 5

As a professional wedding photographer I view this Vertical Grip as a necessity, not as an accessory. This grip doubles the battery life and allows me to get through an entire wedding with power to spare. As a bonus it balances the camera when using some of the heavy fast Sony lenses. Taking vertical photos makes it easy on the wrist. You won't regret adding this to your a7R III setup. 5

First off - I ordered this on Saturday and received it on Tuesday... I'm on the other side of the world so WOW B&H! This grip is everything I wanted to add more strength to the camera. The double battery life and portrait functions are outstanding, not quite the same build quality as the a7riii but the function and grip is beyond perfect. Absolutely essential purchase. 5

My hands are a little too big for the body of the Sony Alpha 7 III R, with the vertical grip attached the camera is complete: the additional battery doubles the shots, vertical shooting is better too and the distribution of weight between the lens and body is much better.
