The Ice 67mm Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges and filters this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring that can be rotated in order to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes eight layers of anti-reflection coating. These coatings also offer greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.

Polarizing filters arrange, and filter, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.

Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.

Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.

2x filter factor reduces exposure by 1 stop.

Multicoated to prevent internal ghosting and reflections.

Aluminum-alloy filter ring for durability while remaining lightweight.

Filter ring can be rotated to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect.

67mm front filter threads allow for use with other filters.

Top knurling to provide a more textured grip when mounting or removing it from a lens.

Constructed from optical glass for clarity and color fidelity.

Plastic filter case for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this fit a canon 70-200 mm lens ?

A: Yes this filter can fit a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.

Q: 2. The first photo of this item shows a rectangular filter, but the description says circular. Which shape is it?

A: The Ice 84 x 98mm P Series Circular Polarizer Filter is a rectangular shape but the effect is called circular polarizer.

Q: 3. What is the thickness of the filter?

A: The Ice Slim Multicoated Circular Polarizer Filter (100 x 100mm) is 0.08" / 2 mm, thick.

Q: 4. Can this filter be used in the holder for a 300 f2.8 VR II lens?

A: Yes.

Q: 5. How thick is the frame (excluding the screw in thread portion)?

A: 7/16 AFTER IT HAS BEEN SCREWED INTO THE LENS

Q: 6. Is the metal brass or aluminum?

A: I'ts black, so I cannot tell. It weighs less than the B+W, so it might be aluminum. It threads on nicely and is well made. It is also relatively thin, but still has enough thread for a lens cap.

Q: 7. What is the thickness of the filter?

A: While Nikon does not publish the thickness of this filter, the ring is thinner to prevent vignetting, particularly on wide angle lenses.

Q: 8. Is this the correct polarizer to use with the Nikon F6 film camera?

A: Nikon Circular Polarizer II Filter (77mm) is compatible with the Nikon F6 camera if you have a lens on it that accepts 77mm filters.

Q: 9. Will I need a filter wrench to remove this filter or does it screw on?

A: This filter will be screwed on by hand. Take care not to turn it more than necessary, as it can get stuck if too much force is used.

Q: 10. Can you address the review comment about the effect of water on the coating? My filters need to withstand water droplets for more than 60 seconds.

A: Unfortunately, we are not privy to the technical specifications of the coating employed by Nikon or its limitations. The review in question mentioned a technical question answered by their technical team directly that we are simply not able to ascertain. Please contact the manufacturer directly for more information.

Solid and well machined! I do get some vignetting at wide apertures, but that is common with all circular Polarizing Filters.

I have never had one of these before. Played with it out at a local state park with a lake, had mixed clouds, sun, lake....initial peek at the pics looks promising!!

So far I have only done a little testing with this and not any practical shooting. However I did try it with glare on glass and it did a great job. It also pulled the clouds out from the sky in that direction (it was late afternoon). I didn’t really notice color cast. Maybe just very slightly warm but seemed pleasing. Feels sturdily built and I was pleased I could use both my lens cap and hood with this on my Sony. I am thinking of trying one of their ND filters based on this experience.

Good quality. Exactly what I expected from PolarPro

I purchased a few PolarPro filters for a new Micro 4/3 body and Leica Nocticron Lens for use specifically in travel.

I've had an opportunity to use them all and can say they feel high quality and are consistent with the quality I've experienced with filters made for my drone from PolarPro.

The pricing make these a pro/prosumer tool and depending on your use application, I'd say these might not be the best fit for hobbyist.

If you have the budget, have a limited need for multiple filters as a hobbyist, or find yourself searching for the highest quality filter... These are for you.

As a side note, some (many) sunshades might not fit over this filter without some modification. The outer brass bezel on the filters with circular polarization is slightly larger than the lens barrel and will require modification of the sunshade.

They can be adjusted with the sunshade on quite easily.

Absolutely love this filter! I really like that you can control the amount of polarization

First, I want to get the only downside out of the way. This filter isn't optically neutral. I do notice a slight color cast when using it.

That being said, this is by far the best build and feel of any filter I've used. Wonderful optical quality, easy to use, and it even comes in a very nice case! I would 100% buy from this company again.

The filter polarizes well with little light loss. The wide rotating ring is easier to operate than on other circular polarizers I've had. And the two-tone design looks good. The heavy metal case holds the filter (or another same-size filter) tight and secure, although its heft is a bit of an overkill. Nice product all around.

I've used other brands of filters over the years. I've switched to PolarPro as I was impressed with their ND filters. This filter is well built and comes in a nice metal case to protect it in your bag. The ring is a bit stiffer to turn than most, but it's not an issue. I've been really happy with the results. Since I live in Florida, the summer clouds are our mountains. I love using a CPL to bring out the details in the clouds and darken the blue sky to give extra pop when I convert to B&W. I'll be buying more PolarPro products in the future!
