The 67mm Ice UV Filter is a general-use clear filter designed to absorb ultraviolet light and reduce the bluish cast of daylight. Aside from the reduction of unwanted blue casts, no additional coloration or contrast is created, and adjustments to exposure are not required while using this filter. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes eight layers of antireflection coating. This coating also offers protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than uncoated filters.

The Ice UV filter is constructed from optical glass for increased clarity as well as color fidelity and features a slim aluminum alloy filter ring that helps prevent vignetting. It is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Such filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your front lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations in which scratching could occur.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the front edge of this filter threaded for stacking another filter in front of this one, like a polarizer?

A: Yes. I just screwed one of my other filters to the front of it to verify.

Q: 2. What is the glass thickness?

A: Unfortunately, this specification is not provided by Hoya. Please contact the manufacturer directly.

Q: 3. How thin is this Hoya HD3 49mm UV filter?

A: This filter has a frame thickness of 5mm.

Q: 4. What is the IR cutoff? What wavelengths does the filter actually allow to pass through?

A: The Ice 77mm UV/IR Cut Filter cuts out UV Rays below 390nm, and cuts out IR Rays above 750nm. The filter has 99.4% light transmission between 400-700nm.

Q: 5. Can this filter be used with a VND filter to cut the IR ? Would you put this filter first on your lens or on top of all others?

A: Yes, filters are stackable on the Ice 82mm UV/IR Cut Filter as long as they are 82mm in diameter.

Q: 6. Can I use this filter in a Nikon D 5500? Thkns!

A: The D5500 is DX format. Ive used the filter in an D800 which is FX format. Bur if your lens has a 52mm thread, this filter should work, independent of the format. The Zeiss filters are without peer even if they are no longer manufactured in Germany. These filters are now made in Japan, which is fine. At least they are not yet made in China.

Q: 7. How thin is this Hoya 49MM HD3 UV filter?

A: It is about 3mm thick.

Q: 8. Does this particular filter downgrade image sharpness in any way vs. not using a filter at all?

A: Technically, any glass layer in a lens system scatters light and decreases sharpness. However, the reality is good filters will not affect sharpness to any degree you can see. Frankly, other factors such as camera shake, focus, subject movement, aperture, lighting and contrast have far greater influence on image sharpness than a quality filter such as this one.

Q: 9. If I purchase the Polarizer Filter do I need the UV Filter also?

A: Charles;A polarizer is only good for certain times (there is no use at night for a polarizing filter or indoors), while a UV can be kept on day or night, indoors or out. Not only does it serve as a haze reducer, it is also a good protector for the front lens element.

Q: 10. For my Sony 18-105mm F4 lens. Would you guys recommend that I get the Zeiss 72mm UV filter or the Sony 72mm MC filter? I'm leaning towards the Sony brand for the continuity of having the same brand but not sure if both filters are exactly the same in design. I own a Sony 35mm F1.8 and a Sony 49mm MC filter andthe filter fits my lens like a glove.

A: Just to add to the previous comment to make it clearer: The are the same - just branding difference.

Great value and affordable, much easier to install than some other filters I have used. Great for reducing glare and gives me a sense of security in the event I knock the lens into something that it will be protected somewhat.

I love these filters, I used to buy B+W filters for the past 20 years until I bought and used my first PolarPro. I decided to switch given the frequent fake copies of B+W that started to appear in the market via Amazon. But then when I started using PolarPro, I realized the great quality of materials and advantages over other brands e.gr. The rugged side that facilitates removal, great optics and finishing

I've standardized on this 82mm size with magnetic step ups on smaller lenses. It's great having one set of filters and that's it, no matter which lenses you're bringing along for the day. Being magnetic and quick means you're more likely to use them instead of just lazily skipping filters because the threaded ones are so tedious.

I used zeiss for my 35 gm 1.4 and found image color more warm during shoot under Insufficient light. This makes the person skin color look a little strange. This problem was solved after I switched to PolarPro; the image quality and colors are accurate.
