Audio-technica Single-ear Broadcast Headset With Hypercardioid Dynamic Boom Microphone
- Product Code: ga56299
-
Created especially for news and sports broadcasting, this rugged single-ear headset offers highly intelligible and commanding vocal reproduction, along with the convenience of one-ear monitoring. Its low-profile, closed-back design includes a 45 mm large-aperture driver, and premium, memory foam earpad and headband - plus a memory foam temple pad - giving users a high-fidelity headset that's built to last.
The headset's hypercardioid dynamic microphone keeps the pickup focused on the broadcaster's voice, even in loud environments, and is tailored to reproduce that voice with a rich, broadcast-ready sound. The microphone sits at the end of a rigid boom with a strong, flexible gooseneck section that allows the microphone to be easily adjusted and then stay in place. The boom is also designed to swivel forward and back so that the headset can be worn with the mic positioned on either the right or left side.

Q: 1. I have a technical question, I'm hoping you can help. - I own a Zoom H5. - I have just purchased the BPHS1 - I want to record Skype interviews (for my podcast) but am a little unsure on how to configure Zoom to achieve this. From my Mac, I have a cable that goes from the audio out, into the TRS input #2 on the H5 - to record my guest's voice. My headset/mic will be plugged into the XLR input #1 on the H5 - to record my voice. What do I need to do, to be able to HEAR my guest's voice? Is there anything in particular I need to configure on the H5?
A: The scenario you are describing requires the routing of audio in a way that is a bit more complex, and would best be served by using a mixer and audio interface. Connect the BPHS1 into a mixer like the Alto ZMX862 Zephyr. Take AUX SEND 1 out and plug it into input 1 of an audio interface like the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB Audio Interface (2nd Generation). With regards to the skype audio in your computer, Take the master out of the audio interface and plug it into a stereo channel of the alto mixer. Now that all of the audio is in the mixer, take the master output and plug it into your Zoom H5 to record .
Q: 2. I was wondering if this would work with the ATW-R3100b receiver?
A: The Audio-Technica ATM610a/S requires a cable to operate. This mic has no wireless capability built in. The Audio Technica 3000 series requires a wireless handheld transmitter such as the ATW-T371b. Available in multiple frequencies to match 3000 series receivers currently available. Please see the following link: http://bhpho.to/1hyrOYU
Q: 3. I would like to use this headset for music vocals. The plugs are perfect but will the sound quality be any good?
A: This would also be ok to use for rehearsal, and the frequency response on the mic is actually better than the BPHS2, which you also inquired about.
Q: 4. Is there a deadcat that works with this?
A: No, there is no deadcat style furry windscreen designed for the BPHS1 headset. The models we have available for other mics seem to be either too short or too long. You could purchase the Piece-A-Fur Wind Protection by Bubblebee Industries to cut a custom size fur windscreen to fit the mic. The fur pieces are available in different colors such as black (B&H # BUBBIPAFBK) and gray (B&H # BUBBIPAFGY). You will see the other options for colors listed on the item page. If you need to replace the foam windscreen, we have the Audio-Technica AT8162 Replacement Windscreens for BPHS1 - 3 Pack (B&H # AUAT8162), as well as the WindTech 1200 Series - 3/4" Inside Diameter - Black (B&H # WI1200B) and the Auray WHF-2040 Foam Windscreen For 3/4" Diameter Microphones (B&H # AUWHF2040).
Q: 5. Can I use it with a usb cable?
A: No. This headset has no USB capibilities.
Q: 6. I have a BPHS1 that came with an 4 pin XLR female cable. I'm trying to get it to run into a Zoom H6 handy recorder. Is there an adapter that can do 4 pin XLR male to 3 pin XLR male for use with the Zoom? Will I be able to record with the microphone and hear through the headphones?
A: The 4-pin version of the broadcast headset is for a communications system. The best and most cost effective solution is to change out the cable with the appropriate model, which is the Audio-Technica BPCB1 Replacement Cable for BPHS1, BH #AUBPCB1. The headphone connection would then need to be adapted for the Zoom H6, with a Hosa Technology GMP112 Male Stereo 3.5mm Mini to Female Stereo 1/4" Phone Adapter, BH #HOASMMSPF.
Q: 7. How does this compare to the Beyerdynamics DT297 headset? I've used the 297s for years but it's time to replace or update.
A: The Audio-Technica Broadcast Stereo Headset with Cardioid Condenser Boom Microphone (BH # AUBPHS2C) should compare very well to the Beyerdynamic DT297 headset in actual use depending upon the device it is connected to. NOTE: The Audio-Technica BPHS2C impedance is only 38 ohms.
Q: 8. Can I use this for music vocals? I would like to use it with my iRig DuoPro and travel guitar. It has the correct plugs but how about sound quality? I need something for practicing not for stage or recording. I currently use a Sharp over ear mounted mic with Bose noise canceling headphones but that is too much attached to my head to be comfortable.
A: The sound quality from the mic is pretty good, not up to specs as proper performance mics, but certainly better than your average bluetooth headset. It is primarily used for broadcast, so it does have a professional quality.
Q: 9. How is ambient noise pickup on the Mic? I would like to use this for a Live Broadcast in a very noisy environment and would not like to pickup the ambient noise.
A: The Audio-Technica BPHS1 Broadcast Stereo Headset can be used in a noisy environment. The attached dynamic microphone features a cardioid (directional) pickup pattern which focuses on the user's voice and rejects off-axis sounds so it should not pickup ambient noise.
Q: 10. does this require phantom power?
A: It does not. The microphone is dynamic.
