A 105mm (Coarse Thread) Light Yellow #6 Filter from Tiffen is used for a slight increase in contrast with black and white films. Although not as strong as a traditional Yellow #8, it can still be used to make a difference in your photography. You'll find it boosts your contrast just enough to make the difference between a black and white print flat appears "flat" and one that displays the proper correction.

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.

Especially useful for added contrast between blue sky with clouds and foreground

Tiffen's ColorCore glass is sealed between two optical glass sheets. In this way, Tiffen can better control the various densities of their filters and thereby create more exact degrees of filtration. This process makes for greater accuracy of color as opposed to glass that is simply dyed and become subject to deviation during the dye process

Tiffen, a leader in the filter industry, proudly makes its filters in the USA and backs up its products with a solid 10-year warranty

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would it possible to use this with the LEE Filters 100mm holder?

A: Yes. but..hard to slide it in. scratches sides of the filter. maybe it me but I had a hard time to attach it.

Q: 2. Will this filter fit my Canon serenar 50mm 1.8 ltm rangefinder lens ?

A: No, the Tiffen 40.5mm Skylight 1-A Filter would not fit the Canon Serenar 50mm f/1.8 LTM Lens. The Canon Serenar 50mm f/1.8 LTM Lens uses 40mm filters, so the Tiffen 40.5mm Skylight 1-A Filter would be too large to fit properly on the Canon Serenar 50mm f/1.8 LTM Lens. While we do not have a 40mm skylight filter, we do have a NiSi 40mm PRO UV Filter, B&H # NIRUV40, which may be used as a protection filter with your lens.

Q: 3. Does it has IR cut?

A: Unfortunately, this filter does not offer IR cut.

Q: 4. Do this product fits with a Canon 70-200 mm f/2.8L USM lens?If not what size should I choose?

A: Yes, the Tiffen 77mm UV Protector Filter would be fully compatible with the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L EF USM lens.

Q: 5. What do they mean by coarse thread , and how is this different from the other Tiffen 3-stop ND filter at the same price?

A: Lenses with 86mm filter threads use a coarse thread which is 1.0 pitch. This is different than smaller filter thread sizes (82mm and lower), which use a .75 pitch. Based on the information you provided, we are not able to determine which filter you are referring to. Please provide a link or a Tiffen Mfg #.

Q: 6. My Tiffen Yellow #12 is a lighter yellow than my Tiffen Yellow #8. Is this correct? I thought the #12 would be darker than the #8?

A: I have a B+W 022 filter that is equivalent to a Wratten number 8, it is lighter yellow than my Tiffen number 12.

Q: 7. Where can I find a transmission curve for the Tiffen Yellow #12 filter?

A: Please email techsupport@tiffen.com for assistance.

Q: 8. Is this yellow filter just for use with B&W photos, I take aerial color photos, I need it to cut the haze but will it mess up the color?

A: All previous responses are correct. A yellow filter, when used with color film, will produce a yellow hue over your entire image. A haze filter or a polarizing filter is your best choice for your aerial photos.

Q: 9. can i use this for infrared colour film?

A: Unless you are using Kodak Aero Ektachrome Infrared film, using this filter will have little impact on your images.

Q: 10. How can i buy it

A: You can place an order for this filter online at the product page--it's a special order that takes 2-4 weeks for delivery.

It does what it's supposed to do very well. I purchased this after scratching one of the lens, and as I go climbing mountain quite a bit, I'm less worreid of scratching the actual lens.

This is a great, inexpensive lens protector. It's easy to use, and exactly as advertized. Essential gear for protecting your lenses -- it just doesn't make sense not to buy the clear standard filter. The Tiffen filter screwed-onto my Nikon lens beautifully. it's perfect.

No issues here, just screw it on, and forget it. Tiffen makes a good product, and much better than some other cheaper brands out there. Can't go wrong with these filters.
