Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can someone share a photo of how they used a clamp instead of drilling holes in to the desk? Would love to see it successfully done and what material used to clamp.

A: The base plate of the 12" riser that is included with the O.C. White ProBroom Deluxe Mic Arm is designed to attach permanently to the desktop using four screws. To give you a better example of a stand with a riser that attaches using a clamp, check out the Auray BAE-2X Two-Section Broadcast Arm with External Springs & Integrated XLR Cable (B&H # AUBAE2X).

Q: 2. Is there a clamp for mounting the 1/2 pin to a light stand (c stand)?

A: No

Q: 3. I have asked everywhere to find out how to use the lower swivel to extend the arm and not a single person has been able to answer that question. I can extend the top arm but cannot turn the lower swivel to extend the arm. Anyone able to help here?

A: Loosen the lower friction bolt and pull the lower arm towards you.If this does not offer a remedy, please contact O.C. White directly:O.C. White Company4226 Church StreetThorndike, MA 01079Phone: (413) 289-1751Fax: (413) 289-1754They also offer a Live Chat feature on their website: www.ocwhite dot com

Q: 4. How does the arm mount to your desk? I don't see any clamp mechanism typical of these arms.

A: This is meant to be a surface or wall mount. The base has four holes for screws so you can attach it to a wall, a ceiling, or a window sill.

Q: 5. Can it be hanged fron the ceiling so you can pull the mic down to use it?

A: That function would not be possible with the O.C. White Deluxe Microphone Arm and Riser System.

Q: 6. what is the weight capacity of this arm?

A: I could not find that specific answer anywhere on the O.C. White website. However, I love this mic-arm and use it to hold two mics and a shockmount. No sagging at all, and I haven't had to adjust the locknuts on the elbows yet. Didn't allow me to attach a pic, but it would show my Sennheiser 416, AT Shockmount, and a Neumann TLM170 along with a triple mic bracket, all totalling 2lbs 8oz. Hope that helps. Oh, and I put pieces of old telephone cord around the springs to dampen any spring noise from my voice. It was exciting the springs on loud passages. All of these arms have that issue. I used the O.C. White brand back in my radio daze, and they were simply THE best! A Neumann U87 only weighs 500 grams w/o the shockmount and this arrangement I have totals 1133.98 grams. Hope this helps! For more info, email me at Bobby Sheldon dot com. (no spaces) Oh, and B-H had the best prices on these at the time I purchased. Thanks!

Q: 7. I don't know how should I attach this arm to the desk, am I supposed to use screws? Thanks

A: This product is sold as the boom arm assembly only. All the mounts are available as options:B&H#: OC11427B; OC11427; OC114401B; OC114401; OC11426B; OC11426;

Q: 8. What's the difference between this and the K&M 210/9?

A: The K&M 252 Microphone Stand with Boom Arm (Black) features a 3-section telescoping shaft, while the 210/9 has only a 2-section shaft. The 210/9 is also slightly taller at max height.

Q: 9. What is the diameter of the stem?

A: As per OC White; This is a 1/2” pin for a 1/2” hole.

Q: 10. Is it turtle base or sliding leg?

A: Neither, this is a spring loaded base stand. The sliding leg is PN: B756020 and the C+ Turtle Base is PN: B756120.

I added a second microphone to my home voiceover studio, but needed to mount the new mic on the same end of the desk as the current mic (and the new mic was a Senn 460 shotgun) so the riser made it easier to have two mic booms mounted next to each other, and also put the shotgun mic up in the air more to angle down toward me. I pre-drilled the wood desk top, mounted the base with four good screws, and it was ready to go.

I just finished installing the OC White Deluxe Microphone Arm and Riser System to replace an older clamp mount boom arm that was always getting in my way. The clear difference between the old mount and the new mount is in the weight. The OC White is clearly a much more solid product the stem that connects with the riser is solid metal. On my old system the stem was rolled hollow metal.
The OC White Springs provide a much greater level of support. The OC White Microphone Arm provides a greater reach. True it was an expense but the arm and riser from OC White are worth the added money if you have a need to support a microphone. I would recommend this product to any professional.

This boom, are works for reaching over my computer monitors. I purchased it to support my Shure SM7B mic but also to be able to move the mic behind my monitor when not in use. The springs are super quiet and the reach perfect. the cable management to hide the XLR cable is great and easy to use and access. I did have to tighten up the arm bolts to get it to the holding tension I wanted. It is large but it fits what i need it to do.

I have been looking for a professional boom arm for my studio and had explored some cheaper options. They either failed to support the weight of the mic, were noisy, or simply not user friendly - this mic arm has non of those traits. Super easy to install and very quiet. I am sure I used the same arm when working in radio.

This helps get your microphone stand up off the counter top of your desk.

This tool is a must for use with the SM7B or other mic. It is easy to install, mondo sturdy, and is easily articulated into an infinite number of positions for recording. If you are buying the SM7B, buy this arm.
