Sporting a 19.8 lb load capacity at a weight of only 2.8 lb, this black Befree Advanced Travel Tripod from Manfrotto is a robust support option that can serve as a convenient travel companion for professional photographers and passionate hobbyists alike. Made of carbon fiber, the tripod reaches a maximum height of 59.1" with its column extended (50" with the column down) and offers a folded length of 16.1" for transport in its included carrying case.

Each leg of the Befree Advanced is composed of four sections, which can be adjusted and secured in seconds thanks to the M-lock twist locks that operate with a simple 90° turn. A side-pull selector allows you to set the leg at three different angle configurations, enabling low angle shooting with the simple push of a button. Complementing the legs is an equally sturdy center ball head, which offers a dedicated knob for panoramic movement as well as a friction control knob for precise control over the tension during use. The final element is a quick release plate, which offers dual compatibility for RC2 and Arca-type compatible systems, except for the Manfrotto 804-3W and MH804-3W tripod heads.

An Easy Link attachment is available at the top portion of the leg section, and allows you to connect compatible accessories such as flashes or reflectors. This enables you to use the tripod as a support system and reduce the amount of gear you need to carry while travelling. Additionally, rubberized feet are used to avoid skidding and help keep the Befree Advanced stable in most types of terrain.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the ball head (494) the only difference between the Befree Advanced and the Befree GT (496 ball head)? Is the leg assembly the same? If so, then if I am replacing the ball head, I might as well buy the Befree Advanced?

A: These tripods use different leg assemblies. The GT uses a sturdier slightly taller set of legs. The leg diameters and lengths on the GT are slightly larger.

Q: 2. is it plate compatible with Capture pro clip peak design?

A: you'll have to get the dual plate from Peak Design and that'll be compatible with this tripod and capture.

Q: 3. Whats the difference between the 494 head listed with the aluminum version vs. the 496 head that comes with the carbon fiber version of this tripod?

A: The 496 is a physically bigger and stronger head than the 494.

Q: 4. 1.How to shoot very low (macro) pictures ? 2.The 2.6 lb is with or without the head?

A: The minimum height of this tripod is 16.14 inches. The total weight of 2.6 pounds does include the head.

Q: 5. Will this tripod work with a L-bracket plate?

A: This head uses a proprietary Manfrotto plate. Mostly all L brackets utilize an Arca type plate. You can use a Manfrotto L bracket like the one listed below; https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/859639-REG/Manfrotto_MS050M4_Q2_Q2_L_Bracket.html

Q: 6. How sturdy is it for astrophotography? Would it shake with a little wind?

A: This is a good travel tripod but I would not recommend it for astro-photography.

Q: 7. Well supports a Canon 5D Mark IV with 24-105mm. With 70-200 F2.8? Is there a lot of difference in stability and weight? Between aluminum and carbon fiber

A: Carbon fiber is stronger and lighter. With that said the stability should be the same. I have the aluminum and unless you are worried about beating the crap or of the tripod I think it's fine

Q: 8. will this fit in a domestic carry on bag?

A: Yes it folds to 16.1" so will fit in a carry on in most airlines. The longest dimension of a carry on usually can be maximum 22 inches. It also depends on the other dimensions of the bag because if you add all three dimensions it shouldn't be larger than 45 inches.

Q: 9. Are lever locks available for this model, or other Manfrotto carbon travel tripods?

A: Unfortunately the carbon fiber version in the BeFree series only comes with twist locks.

Q: 10. Does the Manfrotto Befree Advanced Carbon Fiber travel Tripod with 494 Ball head twist lock have an integrated hook (center pole to hang backpack for weight)?

A: No, the Befree-series of Manfrotto tripods does not have an integrated hook installed in their center poles.

When I travel (fly) I need equipment that is somewhat compact and light weight. This tripod was just the right size and weight to hold telephoto and zoom lenses without taking up too much room in a suitcase.

I bought this Befree tripod after having used my first Befree carbon fiber travel tripod (GT XPRO). Both have performed well in the field and indoors. I swapped out the 494 ball head for a Befree 3-Way Live tripod head.

I have used the manfrotto a few times now and was surprised how stable it is even though it is a fairly small tripod that could be used for travel. I have used if for a couple interior architecture shoots and for a couple landscaping sessions.
The weight is low which makes it nice for carrying around.
very happy with it and would highly recommend it.

I haven't used it a ton yet, but the few times I have it's been solid, the legs are easy to extend and retract. It feels really sturdy, as my camera (Nikon 610) and lens (105mm) are a heavy combo. The carry bag is convenient. It's not super light-weight, but it's not crazy heavy either. I like it and would recommend.

Pros:
- One of the lightest travel tripods for the money.
- Compatible with regular RC2 plate.
- Compact enough to fit on the side of most backpacks. This enable me to carry it everywhere.

Cons:
- Still relatively short without extending center column.
- Short column cost extra and it cannot be used side way.

High quality tripod with great features. It weighs 2.68 lb per my scale. It has a friction control for the ball like larger, heavier tripods. It is easy to operate and will be first choice among my tripods.
