This is my first DSLR camera. So far it is great! I usually take pictures of landscapes, people, birds and flowers, and it works amazing every time. It is very easy to use and gives a lot of options to change features within each mode. I really like the touch screen and it is not heavy at all considering the type of camera.

This camera exceeds my expectations, especially the 18-55 STM kit lens. Very, very good close up photos. Very consistent exposures and very good color. Compact and very responsive. The touch screen is an outstanding feature. But again...the kit lens, just wonderful for what it is.

I shoot a few wedding a year mostly for friends and family looking for an inexpensive alternative. I took this camera out of the box, charged the battery overnight, connected my Speedlite 580EX ll and my Tamron 17-50MM 2.8 and set on portrait. I shot 300+ wedding photos and got awesome results. I saw no need to edit / correct the images and gave jpgs directly to the client. Auto-focus worked in all but the darkest environment.

This camera does everything as advertised, small body, great images and video, all in a small form factor. Coming from a 50D, it took a little bit of time to get use to the small shape and the cross hair control in the back instead of the dial.In terms of use, Live View feature is quite nice, since I am able to take shots/video raised above my head and still compose the shot. Video quality is excellent, but it still hunts for focus. Having a touch screen means that you can tap the screen so it will try to focus on what you intended, though I find it faster to grab the manual focus ring on the lens. One thing I was surprised about is sudden stops during video recording. It turns out that the camera would stop if it thinks the memory card can't keep up. I purchased a Samsung 32 GB class 10 card, and after filling 30% of the card, it started to interrupt my recordings. Perhaps it is my card.Switching to LiveView also has a relatively noticeable slapping sound. You won't hear it at a restaurant, but if you are in a silent room, it will be noticeable.Though the spec on battery seems that I will run out quickly, in practice, I was able to take video and pics at Disneyland for pretty much the whole day.Overall, I am happy to making great images and with less weight around my neck. I was hoping to have better video focus performance, but other than that, I am very happy with the camera.

I'll just say that in an informal portrait test, the kit lens on this camera can produce an image (hand held) that is far sharper than is needed. I have also captured wildlife with my 400mm f5.6L in extremely low light at ISO 6400. Grainy yes, but I got the shot.

I am amazed at the quality of the photos captured by this camera. The color rendition, edge and image acuity, especially with larger prints (8 x 10 for me) have exceeded my expectations, and are superior to anything I have previously enjoyed with either film or digital. I have run side by side tests comparing RAW to JPEG, and can't find any advantage to RAW-in fact the JPEG photos are superior. I suspect that the DIGIC 5 processer is the answer. I have avoided DSLR's until now because of their bulk and weight. However the SL 1 is smaller and lighter than my last Nikon SLR. I have large hands, but have had no problems with gripping the camera as a result.

I've always wanted an SLR and tried my brother's but they are too big and too heavy for me. When i saw Canon SLR1, i told myself to give it a try. I don't read manuals and my previous camera is G10. For me, SLR1 is easier to use than G10. I first use SLR1 in our family vacation in Florida and never regretted a single second about it. It's worth the price. Being that it's the smallest and lightest SLR, it suits best for people with small hands.

Currently own the Canon T4i and was intrigued about this new smaller, lighter weight Canon DSLR. Bought it and loved it immediately. Feels very comfortable, easy to handle and very good performance.

I am totally happy with this SL1 + 18-55 STM IS kit lens. The camera with this kit lens is just over a pound, and a delight to carry compared to my big dSLR's with a big lens. I especially like the large new LCD touch screen and logical , well placed controls with which Canon users are familiar. This makes the camera easy to set up and easy to change using either the buttons and wheels we 're used to, or via the touch screen, which seems instantly familiar, and has super quick response. The bigger LCD screen makes this very nice to use. I see no discernible shutter lag, though I can't measure that scientifically. The OVF has shooting info displayed and is comfortable to use The 18-55 STM lens is sharp and focuses accurately and instantly. IQ is great, I reviewed a large number of my images and found that the great majority of them are In the 18-55 mm range, so this lens is ideal for my travels, making a compact, easy to use, high quality setup. I also experimented with low light and high ISO and found the IQ to be excellent. As an added touch, the Canon strap included in the box is very nice. I highly recommend the SL! kit for those wanting a camera that is easier to haul than the large dSLR's, and still providing high quality results.

I have been using this camera for about 3 weeks now and boy do I love it. This is my second SLR camera (the first was film) and I am so happy with my purchase. As a beginner, I am just learning the ins and outs of digital photography. I am already getting some great shots right out the gate! I also really like the lightweight and slimmer design of the SL1. Its a little easier to travel with compared to a hulky DSLR and I am also able to comfortably hold it in one hand (but i dont really do that). I love this camera and would recommend it to any beginner who is looking for a solid all around intro DSLR that is lightweight and a little more easier to carry/transport than some of the other larger models out there
