The Haida 58mm Slim Pro II Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges and filters this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity and features an aluminum-alloy filter ring that can be rotated in order to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, the glass includes 10 layers of anti-reflection coating. These coatings also offer greater protection to the filter substrate and helps it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters.

Helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.

Polarizing filters arrange, and filter, directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of the light.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.

Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.

Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.

2.5x filter factor reduces exposure by 1.3 stops.

Multi-coated to prevent internal ghosting and reflections.

Thin, aluminum-alloy filter ring helps to prevent vignetting while remaining durable and lightweight.

Filter ring can be rotated to adjust the intensity of the polarization effect.

58mm front filter threads allow for use with other filters.

Top knurling to provide a more textured grip when mounting or removing it from a lens.

Constructed from optical glass for clarity and color fidelity.

Plastic filter case for storage and transport.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Did anyone have a hard time attaching this filter to a lens?

A: No issues , see if you have a spec of dust on the threads

Q: 2. Is this a rotating filter for different darkness or is it just a straight one color?

A: A polarizing filter helps eliminate reflections, from shiny surfaces such as water, glass, etc. One can control unwanted reflections by rotating the filter to minimize or even eliminate reflections. This filter has no effect on colors.

Q: 3. Is this a better polarizing filter than the B+W 77mm XS-Pro Kaesemann High Transmission Circular Polarizer MRC-Nano Filter at half the price?

A: What you are paying for is quality. Hoya is one of the best companies making filters. With this one you getting all the best features Hoya can produce. The quality of the ring, the glass, the foils that make up the Polarizer, the works. The B+W, on the other hand is the finest they make in this size. Honestly, without comparing side by side, it is hard to make a determination. I suspect both will have outstanding performance and build quality and the in the long run, you will not lose with either.

Q: 4. Are they multi-coated? I'm asking since their description said YES (wrong description?) but one of reviewers said NO. Thanks.

A: Yes they are multi coated 12 layers, see the specs on the web page..

Q: 5. Where is it made?

A: It says Made in China on the lens ring.

Q: 6. is this compatible with a canon rebel t6 camera18-55mm lens?

A: I bought for a nikon camera. I dont own a Canon Rebel 6 but from the specs of the 18-55 mm of your lens it wont be compatible. You need filter with a 58 mm diameter not 52 mm.

Q: 7. Will this fit Canon rf 24-105 f4 lens?

A: Yes this filter kit is compatible with the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM.

Q: 8. will it fit canon 100mm usm macro lens

A: If your 100mm lens' diameter is 52mm, then it will work.

Q: 9. is it compatible with canon 18-135 lens?

A: If you look at the front of the lens, after the focal length and the F stop value there will be a single 2 digit number, that is the size of the filter you need, the number is usually preceeded by a 0 with a slash through it.

Q: 10. Different Hoya Circular Polarizer Filters (NXT, HD2, etc) have different filter factors. Is the polarizing effect independent of that factor? Or to state it a different way, does the filter have two effects - polarizing & neutral density? So would a CP filter with a lower (smaller) filter factor be just as effective at the polarizing effect as one with a larger (bigger) filter factor?

A: That is actually a great question. My main experience is with B&W HTC polarizers and the Hoya HD3's. The Hoya HD3 has become my favorite polarizer because it is so bright and easy to use. I'm not sure if the degree of polarization is the same because of the extra brightness, but it works SO well that it does not seem to matter if there is a small loss in any way. Also, the HD3 goes very nicely from warm to cool as you rotate it which is very useful. When I go back to my B&W polarizer it works well only on bright days when there is a lot of light - so to put it bluntly, the HD3 will spoil you in every way and is worth the money.

The uv filter is nice and thin. Haven't tried the polarizer yet.

I have been using UV and skylight filters as lens protectors for decades, but never really needed them until recently. I got the new Nikon D5, put my 70-210 zoom on it, and took it to a local park with my dog to test the camera out. At one point, I was carrying the camera and lens by the lens barrel with the camera's neck strap hanging down. The dog ran past me, spearing her head through the strap. She ripped the camera out of my hand and then proceeded to drag it and the lens for about 50 yards down a trail, through some mud, into the woods and over some logs before I could stop her. When I got home and cleaned the dirt off, amazingly everything survived. There wasn't a scratch on my lens, camera ... or even the filter. The biggest surprise though was that the camera kept taking pictures as the dog ran away with it. The shutter activated every time the camera bumped something on the ground. When I downloaded the images, I found that my dog had taken about 20 perfectly focused shots from very unique angles. She does need to work on her composition a bit, though.

A friend recommended this kit, so I thought I'd give it a try. I am very satisfied with the polarizer, and the UV filter is always on my lens. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone else looking for a 77mm filter kit.

a must for expensive lenses to help protect from elements. Better to replace cheap UV filters than send lens in for repair.
