A: you can buy one of those shorter trrs to trs cables and then when you attach it to an sl1 like i have, yo can make a custom grip to hold it... its a slimmer looking profile and with the extra space from the extension you can add a wind filter. its an overall slimmer profile and it works... you just need to figure out a way to make sure it holds and i just simply made a custom cnc piece for mine

A: No, the Rode VideoMic Me Directional Mic for Smartphones is designed to work like a "selfie" mic to record audio while recording video closeup and within in a few feet from the smartphone. It will not pick up birds from as close as 20 feet away. It is not a good mic for recording birdsongs. If you are going to be recording birds that are 100 feet or further away, you will need a specialized setup with a parabolic dish for capturing sounds from very far.
