The TVC-24L Versa Mk2 from Really Right Stuff is the "extra-tall" version of the traditional TVC-24 model. It has been designed for photographers who require extra height for shooting over crowds, standing in water, or for everyday photography.

Constructed from Really Right Stuff's patented carbon fiber weave, the TVC-24L weighs in at an impressive 3.7 lb and can safely support up to 40 lb of equipment. Its 4-section, extra-long leg design allows the tripod to extend to a maximum height of 66.1" and lower down to a minimum working height of just 3.7".

Quick set-up and break-down is facilitated by easy-to-use twist locks that require just a quarter rotation to unlock and re-lock each leg section. This design also helps to maintain the tripod's slim folded silhouette. Additionally, when traveling with or storing the tripod, the entire support can fold down to just 23" in length, small enough to travel or hike with.

Each leg is attached to the tripod's collar via an offset leg joint that helps to evenly distribute heavy loads and maintain the tripod's rigidity. The joints and collar itself are constructed of lightweight anodized aluminum which, aside from lending inherent strength to the tripod, also provide it with natural wear and corrosion resistance. Each one of the three leg joints also feature a ratcheting angle stop that automatically locks into place as the legs are folded downward into "standard" position.

The TVC-24L's feet are a unique teardrop shape, which prevents the leg sections from touching the ground at even the lowest height settings and the most unusual angles. Their rubber exterior provides a non-slip grip on nearly any surface and can be used both indoors and outdoors without concern. For users wishing to change the native rubber feet to metal "all-terrain" spikes, a set of metal spikes are available separately.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would the TVC or TFC version be better if I'm using a BH-40 ball head for photography? And for video, I'm using a Sony A7II. Thx.

A: The TVC version would be a more versatile option.

Q: 2. What is the difference in the Versa Series 2, 3, and 4? What about in comparison to the Platform Ascend?

A: The difference is based on the focal length of your longest lens. Series 2 is for lenses up to 400mm, Series 3 is for up to 800mm, and Series 4 would be recommended for a professional cine camera. The Ascend is a lightweight travel tripod recommended for lenses up to 200mm.

Q: 3. What is the overall diameter when collapsed? I need to check compatibility with backpacks and carrying bags.

A: The diameter is slightly under 5''

Q: 4. I'm curious of any recommendations for a tripod that can be used both for photography purposes, but also have the ability to mount a motorized astrophotography tracking head to it at a later time? Id rather splurge on the tripod, being I'd use it for both. Id like it to be backwards compatible with either / or, multiple types of head options (basically be as future proof as it could be). Any advice would be really appreciated! Budget, midrange, and top of the line suggestions would be awesome! Id end up buying a higher end ($1000-ish) tracking head. Willing to hear what else you all suggest! Thanks

A: The Robus RC-5570 Vantage Series 3 Carbon Fiber Tripod, BH # RORC5570 would be an excellent option at the lower price point based on your particular application. https://bhpho.to/3kPROj6

Q: 5. What is the height with the last leg section closed?

A: With only the first two sections extended, the RRS TVC-24L extends to 50-5/8" in height.

Q: 6. Can this fit into a carry-on suitcase without a ball head?

A: It would probably not fit in the carry on, I would recommend checking it under the plane.

Q: 7. If I want to put a 75mm ball fluid head on this tripod, would I need to purchase the RRS video bowl?

A: That is correct.

Q: 8. what is leg diameter at top for ordering the Lenscoat neoprene padded covering? Looks like the Lenscoat Wrap 315 might work?

A: Lens coat lists that the correct leg wrap for the Really Right Stuff TVC-24L Versa Series 2 Mk2 Carbon Fiber Tripod (Long) is the 315 you listed. The link for that is, https://bhpho.to/43Bdy9x

Q: 9. Do the legs open out to particular fixed positions and if so how many? ... e.g., three, four?

A: They open to three positions

Q: 10. Would the FlexShooter Pro head fit on this mount?

A: Yes, the Flexshooter Pro would mount on this tripod

The legs are works of art. Connectors and other bits are great, but not mind blowing. Not cheap, but stable and well constructed.

I was surprised how light this tripod is.  It replaced a very well used, and awesome, Gitzo 1348.  This tripod is much lighter but is just as sturdy.  Used it with a 500/4 & tc-14 on a sidekick and it performed very well (thought outside of RRS guidance for focal length).  Its going to become my main travel tripod and the Gitzo stays in the studio. Highly recommended.

I had attempted to meet all of my tripod needs with a single series 1 tripod from another manufacturer.  But too many times I found it too short (even with the center column extended), not stable enough for a longer lens (100-400) and just a bit larger than I wanted for hiking.  So I decided to stop compromising and switched that out for the RRS TQC-14 Mark II.  (I also bought a RRS TVC-24L for the other extreme.). The TQC-14 is going to meet most of my needs while hiking and even just walking around.  If I know I am going to need something tall, or more rigid/stable or if Im not walking that far then Ill use the TVC-24L.  I have pulled the center column on the TQC-14 and I keep it in the car in case I need it.  If I am unsure, Ill just tuck it in my pack.  I have an RRS BH-30 on the TQC-14 and it is a great fit.  I use a Sony a7r3.  The longest/heaviest lens I have is the 100-400 GM but if I am going to use that I will likely have the TVC-24L with me.  The 70-200 F4 OSS is likely the heaviest and longest lens I will use with the TQC-14.  I have used the TQC-14 effectively as a walking/hiking stick with one leg extended (not even all the way.). And one little side note that is a benefit to me given how I pack these in my vehicle, the TQC-14 fits inside the legs of the TVC-24L when they are pointed in opposite directions.  (I use a BH-40 on the TVC-24L).  Sure, it is an expensive setup but I have far more invested in the camera, lens, backpacks/bags, accessories and in the money I spend on travel and accommodations.  And when I think about it, the tripod is in my hand probably more than the camera given the amount of walking/hiking I do to get to a spot.  Oh, and the RRS service is awesome.

The tripod is quite light by itself. when clubbed with BH-55 it tends to be a bit heavy, but still a great combination for larger SLR bodies and to use at odd angles.
the legs are smooth and the operation is simple. no manual required :)
Overall great product, but the price seems a tad high.

After weeks of googling, reading and trying to match other peoples tripod experiences with my needs I ended up ordering the RRS 24L as a replacement for my Gitzo Series 2 Traveler. The Traveler is very good, but isn't as tall as I'd like without resorting to the centre column nor stable enough in difficult conditions. I also wanted something that could handle a leveling base and small fluid head for video work, yet be reasonably compact and lightish of weight. Since Gitzo doesn't offer a systematic Series 2 tripod, that lead me to RRS.

In comparison to the Traveler, the 24L is a monster, tall, strong as a proverbial rock yet not overwhelming large/heavy even when strapped to my Lowepro Protactic 450. Everything about the 24L screams quality. Although it's 1/2 lb lighter than my Gitzo 3541XLS it's stiffer when set up at similar heights and can hold everything from my mirrorless system all the way up to my DSLR & 600/4 with ease. (To be fair, my Gitzo is a couple of generations old and I know the newer versions are stronger.) So although I didn't plan on it, the 24L will likely replace my Gitzo 3541 as well, thus greatly simplifying my tripod life.

For my mirrorless landscape work I'm using an Acratech Long Lens head which is perfectly suited to the 24L for a light weight mirrorless setup. I'll likely add either the Acratech or RRS leveling base. (I dislike ballheads.)

For video and my DLSR+600/4 I'm using a Manfrotto 500AH fluid head with the Kirk arca-swiss modification. Compact and fairly light weight; perfect. After 10 years I've finally found a decent replacement for my 3 lb Wimberley dinosaur.

Overall, I now have tonnes of flexibility and capability wrapped around the impressive RRS 24L. Worth every penny spent.

RRS are very proud of their products, and they should be. This is a fantastic tripod, very stable, tall (I'm 6'-1) and worth the premium you pay for RRS stuff

- No center column
- Plenty tall
- Solid and smooth construction
