The TVC-34L Versa Series 3 Mk2 from Really Right Stuff is a mid-weight carbon fiber tripod designed for use in both the field and studio.

Constructed from Really Right Stuff's patented carbon fiber weave, the TVC-34L weighs in at 4.7 lb and can safely support up to 50 lb. It's 4-section leg design allows the tripod to extend to a maximum height of 68.8" and lower down to a minimum working height of just 4".

Quick set-up and break-down is facilitated by easy-to-use twist locks, which require just a quarter rotation to unlock and re-lock each leg section. This design also helps to maintain the tripod's slim folded silhouette. Additionally, when traveling with or storing the tripod, the entire support can fold down to just 24.4" in length, small enough to travel or hike with.

Each leg is attached to the tripod's collar via an offset leg joint that helps to evenly distribute heavy loads and maintain the tripod's rigidity. The joints and collar are constructed of lightweight anodized aluminum which, aside from lending inherent strength to the tripod, also provides it with natural wear and corrosion resistance. Each one of the three leg joints also feature a variable angle stop that automatically locks into place as the legs are folded downward into "standard" position.

The TVC-34L's feet are a unique teardrop shape that prevents the leg sections from touching the ground at even the lowest height settings and the most unusual angles. Their rubber exterior provides a non-slip grip on nearly any surface and can be used both indoors and outdoors without concern. For users wishing to change the native rubber feet to metal "all-terrain" spikes, a set of metal spikes are available separately.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I'm curious of any recommendations for a tripod that can be used both for photography purposes, but also have the ability to mount a motorized astrophotography tracking head to it at a later time? Id rather splurge on the tripod, being I'd use it for both. Id like it to be backwards compatible with either / or, multiple types of head options (basically be as future proof as it could be). Any advice would be really appreciated! Budget, midrange, and top of the line suggestions would be awesome! Id end up buying a higher end ($1000-ish) tracking head. Willing to hear what else you all suggest! Thanks

A: The Robus RC-5570 Vantage Series 3 Carbon Fiber Tripod, BH # RORC5570 would be an excellent option at the lower price point based on your particular application. https://bhpho.to/3kPROj6

Q: 2. The specs for this tripod says the Closed Length is 21.1" / 53.6 cm. Is this correct? I want to put in my carry on luggage bag.

A: Yes, the Really Right Stuff TVC-34 Versa Series 3 Mk2 Carbon Fiber Tripod is 21.1 inches when folded/collapsed to its smallest size and without a head attached.

Q: 3. what's the difference between tfc and tvc?

A: TVC models offer more flexibility for drop in ball heads and center columns where TC are fixed.

Q: 4. Could I put a center column and arca Swiss cube on this?

A: You can use the arca Swiss cube with our with out a center column. The column for the Really Right Stuff TVC-24 Versa Series MK2 Carbon Fiber Tripod is, https://bhpho.to/3uwFOu3 .

Q: 5. Would this be tall enough for someone 61? Id go for the L but like being able to put it in carry-on luggage.

A: I am just over 6 feet and find the 34L perfect for me, but unless your carry-on is huge, it likely won't fit as the tripod alone (no head) is every bit of 24 inches long. You'd be better off carrying it separately, or pairing it with a true travel tripod.

Q: 6. If I want to put a 75mm ball fluid head on this tripod, would I need to purchase the RRS video bowl?

A: That is correct.

Q: 7. Does anyone know what the length is for the last leg extension? The one closest to the ground. Im trying to determine the tripod height if that leg extension is left in a retracted state, and if it would be a perfect tripod for me in that state. I am 4.3 in height.

A: The length of the last leg tube is 18 3/8", but I don't think that isn't the most accurate way to measure its height since the legs are at an angle. I measured the tripod's height with only the top two sections extended and it measures 51 5/8" (4' 3", what a coincidence).

Q: 8. Is this tripod the 4 leg extention version?

A: Yes, the Really Right Stuff TVC-34L Versa Series 3 Mk2 Carbon Fiber Tripod is a four leg section tripod.

Q: 9. What is the difference in the Versa Series 2, 3, and 4? What about in comparison to the Platform Ascend?

A: The difference is based on the focal length of your longest lens. Series 2 is for lenses up to 400mm, Series 3 is for up to 800mm, and Series 4 would be recommended for a professional cine camera. The Ascend is a lightweight travel tripod recommended for lenses up to 200mm.

Q: 10. Hi, I am 6’4” and been thinking on buying RRS34L w BH55 or should I go Gitzo syst 3?

A: The Gitzo GT3543XLS Systematic Series 3 Carbon Fiber Tripod (Extra Long) will reach up to 6'5". The Really Right Stuff TVC-34L Versa Series 3 Mk2 Carbon Fiber Tripod along with the Really Right Stuff BH-55 Ball Head reaches up to 6 feet together.

Like many others I too chased the the tripod game and suffice to say, I lost! I went from 20 dollar aluminum to free pods in camera kits to a carbon fiber mid level Oben. None of these performed. I'd set up to shoot the full moon and lock down on it and leave go in preperation to shoot only to find the lens sagged down to point of the subject being at the top of the view finder. All this while bent over because the tripods would not extend for my height. In purchasing the RRS I seem to have come out of the Stone Age. I never realized the true value of a tripod until I purchased the RRS Versa. What a difference! I comfortably stand now with the camera at eye level if I choose, and when I say it's locked down it's locked down. It's solid enough I'm not sure I need a remote shutter release because it dosen't seem to move while I manually press the shutter release.
I can't offer any comparisons to other high end pods like Gitzo Manfrotto or others but I can't imagine anything better. The only issue I see with it are the feet. I need a spike foot to use afield and to get one I have to pony up another 100 bucks or so.
So, if you need a quality pod this guy ticks all the boxes.

Elegant simplicity of design and superb materials, build quality, and finishing. Easy to use and has proved to be dependable and durable. I have tried many top level tripods over the years and for me Really Right Stuff is clearly the best.

Bought a used one rated 10 and one in brand new condition arrived. I saved several hundred dollars. This is a rock solid tripod that eliminates the vibration you get from center poles.

When you want the best, this is it. The TVC-34L with a Wimberly gimbal handles my R3 and 600mm f/4 with ease. I’m 5’-11” and it’s the perfect height with all sections extended except for the smallest. I’ve always owned Really Right Stuff ball heads, macro rails and clamps, but this is my first tripod and I am impressed.

I have purchased many tripods over the past decades and never been truly blown away with any brand or feature I have tried. I used them, I wore them out or they just fell apart and were retired to the bin.
I never have been able to force myself to drop big coin on a seriously expensive tripod from any manufacture because I could never convince myself that it could possibly be worth the extra money.
Well, I was wrong - for a long time - just plain wrong.
This tripod is fantastic. It is super stable. More stable in wind, more stable on hill sides and more stable in riverbeds and on gravel.
I finally made the decision to simply pull the chain and purchase a high end tripod and chose an RRS TVC-34L. I paired the unit with an RRS TA-3 Leveling Base and a BH-40 ball head and couldn't be more thrilled with the quality, smooth operation, steadiness, and ergonomics of the setup. It just works. Hurray - No more 'finger bite' from clunky leg levers! The twist locks on the legs are easy to use and don't require much of a turn to fully unlock the leg or lock it into place again.
I calculated all of the money I have spent on Manfrotto 055 Graphite tripods and truly wish I had spent the proverbial bank on the RRS line much sooner. It would have been much cheaper overall and I imagine I would have been happier. It would have been less money in the garbage, more travel funds and more photos in the bag.

I haven't ever been giddy about a tripod I have owned, until now, but I can honestly report that I am hooked.
