Rosco Fluorescent Lighting Sleeves/Tube Guards are a very reliable and cost-effective system for easy control of tough lighting scenarios- especially under fluorescents. In addition to the financial benefits of the sleeves, they protect against the potential disaster of glass shattering by containing the lamp within the end caps.

Rosco sleeves are constructed of a solid polycarbonate tube within which is held the specific filter. The choice of filters and combination of filters is endless - there are complete Roscolux, Cinegel or E-Colour color filter lines - something for every venue, every photographer, every cinematographer.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with speedlights? I can place up to 3 speedlights on a triple mount, would that be enough light.

A: I can be used. Just keep in mind that it is a LARGE modifier that really benefits from a strong light source for certain effects. It may also be hard to get the right light balance from the three heads on the triple mount since they are not optimally placed in the center.

Q: 2. This is sold as a bounce umbrella as well, but is there any reflective backing, or is the whole surface translucent white? If that's the case, won't there be a lot of light spill backwards if you use it as a bounce umbrella?

A: Charles, Used a s a bounce or shoot through much of the light will spill in the opposite direction. This is not necessarily bad if you are using neutral surfaces nearby to add some additional fill. An umbrella with a backing or a Westcott Halo will both offer more control.

Q: 3. What is the minimum folded length and width?

A: Minimum collapsed length is 15 3/4 inches with a diameter of 2 inches, it's a tiny bit larger and longer than your standard paper towel tube.

Q: 4. When folded how long (including metal shaft) is the Westcott Umbrella - Optical White Satin - 32 ?

A: It is 22 long when folded. Check the 'specs tab on the item. It says the shipping length is 22 . Good luck.

Q: 5. What is the recommended wattage needed to light up a group of people?

A: I use my umbrella with my studio strobes- usually set between 400 & 800 watt seconds. The light is soft, even and diffused.

Q: 6. Using this umbrella, about how wide of a light throw can you get? In short, if I was photographing a group that is 20 feet wide, and I had the umbrella facing the group (with enough wattage) do you think it would light side to side of the group? Specifically outdoors, where there is no bounce from ceilings?

A: These modifiers throw light about 180 degrees according to Wescott's website. They do recommend using multiple lights for large groups. So Mathematically, beam spread calculations say "beam width = angle x .018 x distance". To cover a 20 foot line of people you would need to place the light 6.1728 feet from the line. So yes! I place it directly behind me centered in the group, slightly above & tilted slightly down just over 6 feet away from the group.

Q: 7. Anyone had this tear or break on them after some months of use or is it very sturdy?

A: I had one break about about 3 years of use. But generally, these umbrellas have been very durable and easy to use.

Q: 8. How does this achieve shoot-thru and bounce?

A: This works the same way as any other umbrella. I would suggest the black backed umbrella for bounce work. I often use this as a large diffused source with an Alien Bee when shooting groups. It is also great in the summer to throw up on a stand and use it to soften direct sunlight.

Q: 9. Can this umbrella be used with b10 or b10 plus

A: Yes, they are lightweight so no problem with the mount, but i'm not sure if the Profoto flat face strobes will fill the entire umbrella. That's not a problem, but you could get by with a smaller umbrella. I mostly use a silver westcott umbrella and Profoto flat face strobes don't quite fill the umbrella to the edges.

Q: 10. Is this umbrella compatible with Paul C Buffs Alien bee 1600?

A: Yes, it is.

Perfect for my Boudoir set. Not so big and cumbersome as the 42's.

I am a repeat buyer of Wescott Umbrellas, they do the job well and hold up. I only replace them after many years when with the age the color gets a bit yellow, but for the price no biggie.

Simple, light weight quality umbrella. Works well. Not sure if this is the same style or brand that Mary Poppins used to fly around with! Whatever, it is a good product at the right price.

Some umbrellas are extremely expensive and heavy. I find Wescott products to be perfect for my amateur needs. I've had no issues with Wescott products, but I have with other more professional expensive brands. Almost all companies made stuff in China or somewhere else that has cheap labor rates, but that is no excuse for poor quality control. The company that puts their name on the product owes you a decently made product that meets their stated specifications and one that you can expect a reasonable trouble-free lifetime. I have read that a shoot thru umbrella is the softest light your gonna get and the shoot thru design has the advantage of being inexpensive and lightweight to boot. Collapses to a thin package and works great with my Yongnuo 560-IV flashes. A great low cost solution from B&H that has served me very well.

Had cheaper/smaller shoot through umbrellas for years that was starting to not stay attached to the frame. While they did the job, especially for headshots, I disliked the light fall off with their size. I knew I wanted to get larger and I wanted better quality, I found that in these wescott umbrellas. It wasn't much more expensive than the cheaper versions of 45" yesterday was the first time I got to use them on a shoot and the light broadcast was perfect and gorgeous.
