The Blackstar U250ACT is a Unity Series 15" 250W powered speaker cabinet designed to deliver powerful amplification for bassists in the studio, onstage, or at rehearsal. Its custom-designed Eminence Opus 15" speaker handles 250W at 4 Ohms. A passive 1/4" speaker input enables it to function as a traditional speaker cabinet, while the active XLR-1/4" combo input allows a connection from an external preamp or a Blackstar Unity Series bass amp.

An XLR thru jack functions as an output to another Unity Series active cabinet and features a ground-lift switch to minimize hum. A dedicated volume control is provided for the active section of the U250ACT. The sturdy MDF cabinet has a top-mounted carry handle for easy transport between gigs or rooms. An IEC power cable is included.

Q: 5. I'm having awful feedback whenever I turn these on and plug in the RCA cables to the back of the speaker (the 3.5 mm end). Even without the RCA cable plugged into anything like my Topping A90 amp, it still creates the feedback noise. I've tried multiple cables now after this happened with the cables Genelec supplied, and it keeps happening no matter what. However, it stops once I remove the RCA cable from the back of the speaker. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need a different cable? Any ideas?

A: It's a steady hum whenever it's powered on and the RCA cable is plugged into the back. If I plug in the other end of the RCA cable to anything else (my Topping amp, my other audio interfaces, etc.) the hum gets much louder. The RCA cable also seems to not fit the RCA input on the G1 or I have to use a tremendous amount of force to get the plug to even go halfway into the port.

Back in the broadcast camera days, most all pro cameras came with decent handle-mounted mics. Things are different in the DSLR-type hybrid video camera world. The purpose of an on camera mic for me is to record ambient effects. However, on occasion I have actually shot location interviews, usually outdoors at big events. By moving in 3-4 feet from the subject and placing the person so the mic is facing away from the loudest background noise, it is possible to get useable audio. The Azden is, in my opinion, comparable to the similarly priced Rode camera mic. It has two features that influenced my purchase. One, it's a small size and does not stick out behind the camera too far. Some of the on camera mics are offset so far it's nearly impossible to use the EVF. Second, the mic has an auto switch that's nice. Not auto gain, but auto on off. You can set it in auto, plug it into your camera's audio input, and when the camera is turned on, the mic turns on. When the camera is turned off, the mic goes off. So you don't have to remember to turn it on when you get in a hurry. My GH5 has audio meters visible on the screen, so I always know if I'm getting audio even if my headphones are off. But if you don't have internal meters, this auto on/off feature is nice. The sound quality of this mic is not going to be as good as a shotgun mic costing hundreds more--that's what my boom mic is for. But for its intended use I think it's a great buy. 5

Azden is definitely stepping up with their Microphone. For me this Mic sounds really good and the integrated shock-absorbing shoe mount works well. I love the auto off feature, it shuts off automatically when I turn off my Cam and it goes to sleep too when my cam goes to sleep! The size is a bit big but it does not bother me at all. 5
