$117.75 $181.34

The Oben GH-30 Gimbal Head Cover from LensCoat wraps around your gimbal head and offers protection against scratches and dents during transport to a location or while in use. Constructed from closed-cell neoprene, it is soft to the touch and provides a thermal barrier in the colder months, in case you are not wearing shooting gloves.

Primarily gimbal heads are used for sports, birding, and wild life photography, and the equipment can be easily seen by wild life, which would normally be cautious and stay away, in the outdoors. With the black color, it breaks up the shape of the head and provides a type of camouflage, which makes the equipment blend into the background and not easily seen by animals or other wildlife.

Q: 1. How many inches long is the quick release plate? Is a longer one available?

A: The included quick release plat is approximately 2 long. Here is a longer one. 3.6 x 1.5 x 0.5 (92 x 38 x 13 mm) Really Right Stuff L84 Multi-Use Fore-Aft Plate with 1/4 -20 Screw B&H # REL84PLATE.

Q: 2. Can you attach Wimberley F-9 Flash Bracket for Wimberley Head Version II to the side of this style Gimbal head?

A: Yes, it is compatible with the Oben gimbal head.

Q: 3. Will this quick release plate work on a Nikon 200-500 telephoto lens?

A: Yes, the plate will work with the Nikon 200-500mm.

Q: 4. I purchased this head last December, and recently it started to ooze a thick grease from the base and over the top of my Gitzo tripod. Has anyone else had this problem? is there a way to correct this?

A: There was a batch of GH-30 Gimbals that had a manufacturing defect in the internal lubrication seals. The issue only became apparent after months of use. Oben had this corrected in subsequent productions. If you still have a GH-30 Gimbal with this issue, please contact Gradus Group (the manufacturer) for a free exchange. info@obensupports.com or (212) 594-2120

Q: 5. l work with the manfrotto be free gt?

A: Yes once you remove the head from the Manfrotto Befree GT Travel Aluminum Tripod with 496 Ball Head (Black) you can fit the Oben GH-30 Gimbal Head.

Q: 6. Will this gimbal work with a slik 500 dx tripod? Do I need an attachment?

A: Yes, the Oben GH-30 can work on the Slik 500 DX Tripod.

Q: 7. What is the tilt degree +/- range for this gimbal?

A: Tilt degree depends on camera/lens combo. Longer lenses and cameras with auxiliary batteries will reduce the vertical travel. My typical set up is with a Canon 60D and a Sigma 150-600 zoom, usually at full 600mm range. I see no limits to this combination. I did, however, purchase an Arca-Swiss baseplate from Sunway Photo to add the additional slide to accommodate the longer lens and get the balance back.

Q: 8. I hope my question is not too, I guess, stupid, but I'll ask regardless and hope for the best. Can I use it, and would it work well with my Fuji GFX 100 and GFX 100S not using large zoom-type lenses? I have the GF 100mm, GF 32-64mm, and several others, but I wonder if this unit would be worth the purchase if I use these lenses? Thank you for your thoughts. Oh, and I'll be using it on a "Really Right Stuff" tripod. Again, thank you!

A: This Gimbal is definitely usable for your setup, though maybe not ideal. Gimbals are generally best suited for tracking wildlife and the like. For general use I would suggest looking at a Ball Head or a Pan and Tilt Head.

Q: 9. Will it work with the Peak design travel tripod? Or do i hv to use an universal head adopter ?

A: In order to use the Oben GH-30 Gimbal Head on the Peak Design Travel Tripod, you would need the Peak Design Universal Head Adapter, BH #PEUHDADPT (https://bhpho.to/3VhTKEl).

Q: 10. How does this gimbal head do in the cold? I'm thinking like -20 to -15 degrees Fahrenheit.

A: It is possible to use the GH-30 in a very cold environment, but you may notice that the movements of the head will be stiffer than using it at a warmer temperature.

The Oben GH-30 Gimbal Head was easy to assemble and balance. It tilts and pans smoothly. It is sturdy, solid and weight is an issue but it is easy to use. Works great with my Nikon 200-500 on the D850 and D750.

I read all the reviews for this very carefully before I purchased it. A lot of people were complaining about a greasy substance leaking out from somewhere in the gimbal. I have not experienced that, so maybe they have resolved that issue. It’s very easy to set up; it’s very easy to use and it’s a decent price.

Easy setup on multiple long lenses. Plan on using it for sports but haven't had the chance yet. So far I've been using the Gimbal for nature and it works great. A perfect addition for long lenses.

I have been researching Gimbal Heads for over a year. Although I knew I wanted one, I found the cost of most of them to be rather high. Then the Oben GH-30 came along at an excellent price. I have had an Oben Monopod for several years and have always been impressed with its quality. This Gimbal Head is of the same fine quality. It is well made, easy to set up (The manual that comes with it is just wonderful. I am terrible at reading instructions and I was able to follow this manual without a hitch.) and works like a dream. It is so smooth. The controls are very to use. I have a Canon 5D Mark IV with the Canon 100-400mm lens. I photograph birds mainly and love to shoot freehand for maximum flexibility. But my gear is pretty heavy and has been taking a toll on my body. With this Gimbal Head, it is almost like shooting freehand but with no strain on my wrists, arms, and shoulders. I just love it. On the advice of a few people including the fine folks at B and H, I did purchase a larger plate. I bought theDesmond DPC-140 Long Lens Quick-Release Plate (140mm). I did this as the barrel of the Canon 100-400 extends out. The longer plate gave me more range balancing the lens when extended out to near 400mm. This plate is not expensive at all. And I love the Arca Swiss system. Up until now I have been using the quick release plates by Manfrotto on my Manfrotto 3 way tripod head. The Arca Swiss system is so much nicer.
At 3.2 pounds, the head is a bit heavy and bulky to pack if one is thinking about travel. But I love it so much that I will definitely find a way to fit it into my carry on luggage. I cannot see myself going back to my other tripod head. I should have bought this sooner.
So if you are longing for a Gimbal Head and want some great quality at a very reasonable price, I can highly recommend the Oban GH-30.

I've been using this gimbal for a couple of months now and I'm in love.

When loose, all movements are silky smooth - you can effortlessly point your camera in any direction, and when you let go, everything stays in place. On the other hand, when this is locked it feels rock solid and I don't have to worry about the safely of my camera.

It works great with my Sigma 150-600, but to my surprise it worked just as well with a rented 500 f/4 - as soon as I replaced the stock foot with the Wimberley low-profile foot.

I've also used this in one of the most extreme environments on Earth: Svalbard in the winter, in -40 degree temps. My regular ball head froze solid, but this was still working even after being left outside all night. Sure, it was sluggish - but it kept on truckin'.

If you shoot anything that moves with a long lens, this gimbal is for you.

Please notice that this is my first Gimbal ever. But everything has been very good so far.
It feels sturdy and high quality.
It supports my Tamron 150-600 perfectly when fully extended, and I can move my camera to any direction very easily.
For me is a highly recommended option in terms of cost-benefits.

The Oben GH-30 Gimbel head is very solid when mounting a Nikon 200-500 f5.6 lens and Nikon D500 camera.  This is a heavy combination so a solid tripod is a must.  After following the detailed instructions for balancing, it performs exactly as described.   The knobs are smooth and can be set for exactly the drag you want.  This item should last a long time providing excellent service.

I always wanted a Gimbal to do my bird photography but some of the other brands were out of my price range. When I saw this Oben Gimbal, I thought that the price was right and I'd give it a try. Boy, was I happy I did. I can't describe how much easier it is to track and accurately shoot birds in flight when you don't have to bear the weight of the camera. I shoot with a Canon 7D and the Canon 100-400mm lens. I would recommend this to any amateur photography enthusiast who doesn't want to spend a great deal on Gimbals.
