Take your astrophotography and observation to the next level with the Starlight Xpress USB Filter Wheel. This configuration of the wheel features a 7-position carousel that accepts conventional 1.25" eyepiece filters, so many users who are new to wheels will be able to use the filters they already have, including planetary, neutral density, light pollution, or specialty filters like nebula. Primarily designed for imaging applications, this wheel configuration comes with female T2 threads on the front to mount onto telescope focusers and visual backs or male T2 adapters, and on the back is a male T2 adapter so you can directly mount cameras and imaging systems. The wheel is engineered with a short 29mm back focus, including the front and back T2 adapters, to give you the room to get your subject into tack-sharp focus.

Sub-miniature DC gear drives make quiet and vibration-free filter changes and each position is programmable within the control software that is available as a free download from the SX website. The wheel is also compatible with many popular third-party astronomy and imaging software such as AstroArt and MaximDL. The wheel is connected to a computer via a USB 2.0 port for software control and conveniently is powered by the USB cable. For those who don't want to or can't tether the wheel to a computer, there is an optional handbox control unit and independent power supply. Additionally, a standard serial port allows another computer control option, but power is not supplied, so a separate power supply will be needed.

If your rig or need changes, the T2 adapters can be swapped for other optional mounting adapters and the carousel can be switched out for others that are available separately that accept different size filters—eliminating the need to purchase an entirely new wheel. This is just the filter wheel and carousel; you need to provide the filters of your own choosing.

Q: 7. I'm a beginner so plse forgive this question - but how do these filters attach to the eyepieces? I see the filters have femal;e threads on them - do they screw onto the top of the eyepiece? Does this mean all eyepieces have male threads so that they accept filters suich as these to be attached? Thanhs, just trying to understand how these work

A: The Celestron Moon Filter Set has male and female threads. . The easiest way to attach a filter is on the diagonal. This way the eyepieces can be changed without re-attaching the filter from one eyepiece to another. Female thread on a filter is used for stacking several filters.
