Regarding the noise, you may be able to resolve the issue with popping and crackling noises when you switch off the transmitter by adjusting the squelch threshold setting on the receiver. It may be set too low or may be turned off. Squelch eliminates the noise that occurs when the transmitter is switched off and also suppresses sudden noise when the receiver is no longer receiving sufficient signal from transmitter. With the transmitter switched off, try adjusting the squelch threshold on the receiver between 5 to 20 dB (start at 5 dB first and increase it only if needed).
