Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is it possible to use it with a canon 18-55mm ?

A: Yes but I believe the filter size of the 18-55mm is 58mm so you will need the 58mm version.

Q: 2. will this fit a cannon 50mm f 1.2 lens?

A: Sorry, I do not have a 1.2 lens. so I don't know the answer

Q: 3. Will this fit (and still allow my lens cap to attach) a Canon PowerShot SX500IS?

A: Since the SX500IS does not have filter threads, this filter will not fit. You may be able to find a third-party filter adapter online, but B&H does not carry it at this time.

Q: 4. This 52mm filter will fit on the canon sx530 right into the camera lens without the adapter?

A: The SX530 requires the Filter Adapter FA-DC67A. That would enable one to use 67mm filter with the camera. The 52mm would not be able to mount directly onto the cameras lens.

Q: 5. Is this filter marked like 82mm like the image on canons store product description?

A: Yes, though the product photo does not show it this filter is marked 82mm in white on the side.

Q: 6. Does anyone have photo examples of this lens?

A: This filter gives the appearance of 5 multiple exposures, similar to the image below: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/images500x500/Hoya_S77MV5F_77mm_Multivision_5F_Glass_94145.jpg

Q: 7. I just purchased a Canon 50mm/1.4 lens. What type and size UV protector filter would you recommend? Thanks!Michelle

A: The Canon 50mm f1.4 lens uses 58mm sized filters. Unfortunately Canon no longer offers a 58mm sized UV filter. Below is a link to a recommended alternative for your lens:http://bhpho.to/1ejaIvB

Q: 8. What size UV filter for What size UV filter for an '80s Canon AE1 w/a 50mm/1:18 Does anyone know? lens

A: Let me see if I can help you !On the business end of most lens, there will be a Greek symbol, next to some numbers. That is the size of the opening / threaded end and the size of the filter you will need. This is the thread size which means you can attach that size of filter directly. There are lots of other options available, such as step up adapters, and just as many opinions as to their functionality. Some specialty lenses do not accept filters, in which case you won't see any markings. Some believe that there will be a reduction in image quality if you use a filter. I will say that just as there is a difference in the glass quality in different lens, there is most certainly a difference in glass quality in filters too. For that reason, buy quality. Generally, the less you pay, the better the chance for a reduction in image quality there will be. UV filters are usually sold for protection but polarizers have a genuinely useful photographic purpose, reducing glare, surface reflections and increasing color saturation of the sky and some other surfaces as a side-effect.Good luck and I hope that helps!

Q: 9. Does the 58mm UV Protector Filter by Canon fit the Canon 50mm f/1.4 EF (USM) lens?

A: Yes, the Canon 50mm f/1.4 EF (USM) lens uses 58mm sized filters so this one is a proper fit.

Q: 10. can I put a protect filter on top of a polarized filter?

A: If your polarizer filter has a front thread of 77mm, then this Tiffen Protector can fit there.

I really like Hoya filters. Excellent color rendition and inexpensive enough to act as a ready lense cover.

I have never had a Hoya product that wasn't built to the best quality. If Hoya offers the products I always feel confident with the purchase. With this filter I mainly wanted protection for my lenses and this skylight lense provides that.

Excellent for all picture-taking scenes as well as for lens protecting.

If you search the internet, you will find a Polish web site that tested many different brands of UV filters for UV absorption using a spectrophotometer, as well as resistance to flare/ghosting, quality of construction, and ease of cleaning. The Hoya HMC filters came out on top, ahead of some far more expensive German filters. Digital cameras don't need UV filtration, but film users such as myself still need it. I prefer the skylight to plain UV filters as the extra bit of warming takes off the edge of some films such as Kodak Ektar 100 which I feel renders a bit too blue, especially in the shadows. These filters don't noticably ghost or flare at night, and they are easy to clean. The price is also very reasonable.

This filter is great for protecting your lenses. Ordered a new one as a replacement when it protected a lens from shattering. The filter died but the lens lived on. A great product.

When I don't have my HOYA Polarizer on my camera, I have this on it. Besides protecting an expensive lens, it gives a more realistic sky by blocking the excess blue in the California sky.

Purchased to go with a portrait lens, I chose the skylight 1B rather than a clear UV filter in order to warm up the image just a little bit. The Hoya seems strong, well made and does the job as planned.
