Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this unti replace the Nokia Gpon terminal that was provided by my ISP?

A: We would advise contacting your ISP for more info.

Q: 2. Will this work with a gigabit network (automatically sense the 1GB speed and adapt)?

A: The Ubiquiti Networks Gateway Max has five 2.5 Gb/s Ethernet ports, so it would work with a Gigabit Ethernet network.

Q: 3. What is the difference between this and the NSM2?

A: The -US version simply locks you (in hardware) to only be able to select USA / Canada / Puerto Rico in order to comply with US FCC regulations. Other than that country-selection lock, the hardware is identical.

Q: 4. Does this device have built-in Wifi? Some of the reviews suggest yes, others suggest a separate AP is required.

A: No it does not have wifi, a separate AP would be required.

Q: 5. Are the ports isolated from each other using separate NICs?

A: Port isolation can be achieved by creating VLAN assignments for each port. That is done via router configuration.

Q: 6. If I change my router does the GigaBeam need to be re-configured?

A: No, changing the router would not require the system to be re-configured.

Q: 7. Which wireless access point would you recommend to pair this with? Thank you

A: I use a UAP-AC-Lite. The 24v POE injector from the AP can power the router as well as the access point through the pass thru port.

Q: 8. Is this a world (international) version? I want to make sure that this model isn't locked for US only...

A: There is no indication that the Ubiquiti Networks Gateway Max can only be used in the US. You'd just need to adapt the plug to whatever is used in your location.

Q: 9. Can this device support PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)?

A: Yes, this switch supports Passive PoE passthrough

Q: 10. Can this device be used to replace the Nokia Gpon terminal that was provided by my ISP?

A: Not knowing the specs and combability of your Nokia GPON hard to confirm, but this device will let you share a high-speed Fiber connection with Gigabit-enabled devices. This device does have a return policy of 30 day if it does not work for you.

It can be tricky to set up for first time users, but having the control you get over your equipment is valuable.

I paired this edgerouter with a unify LR access point and it works great. Configuration took a little while to understand, but that’s what you get for the all the features.

Eventually I just used the wizard to set up and it just worked out of the box for me.

For under $60, this EdgeRouter X is easily the best bang for your buck when it comes to routers.  Theres more functions that youll probably ever need to use and configure.

I created a VLAN for my guest users to isolate my LAN devices -- my guests are on 192.168.2.1/24 whereas myself and LAN devices are on 192.168.1.1/24.  This router is not plug-n-play per se, although it is defaulted as a switch, you will still need to tinker around the web interface (or SSH) to get the most use of the router.

Highly recommended to the novice/advanced users with networking knowledge, might be a bit too technical for the beginners.

Its been running flawlessly since hooking it up. Provides tons of configuration options and it super small. Glad I made the jump from all in one wireless routers to one of these.

An amazing router in a tiny, little package. A router, firewall, and desert topping all in one! You can do a lot with the GUI. If you're not afraid of the command line, you can make this gem do a lot more. I bought two for my home to keep the PC's off limits from TVs and other Smart devices.

I love having the ability to use this router to segregate my lab and home networks. The cost is also phenomenal for what you get and what you can do with this router.

To use this product properly, you need a lot of patience, some technical know-how and coffee - because once youve dived into the nitty-gritty of this device, its very difficult to let go. Ive only had this device for less than a day and have been playing with it a lot. One thing immediately that struck me is that there is nothing on Web GUI to display devices that are connected. Ive had a Linksys e4200 v1 for ages and thats a standard feature on their original firmware (replaced with DD-WRT later). You can see the devices that have leased IP addresses, but you cannot see (or at least I cannot find them) the list of devices connected to the router. Via the magic of CLI (command line interface), you can do a show arp command and this will display you the list of devices. Not the most elegant solution, but for me it works. It may not work for other people. That is so far the only con Ive found so far. On the plus side, its nice to have a Web GUI interface for this device and unlike the Unifi Controller that I have as well. You can configure each port to be its own LAN (VLAN, have not tried it yet). The dashboard on the Web GUI is nice - not as extensive as the Unified Controller - but it has enough information for me. As for its performance, too early to tell. But if you get this and you overcome the learning curve, youll not be disappointed. If you like plug and play, no, this is not for you.

My house is wired and everything is at the panel. I tried two other wireless routers turning off the wireless part and having the AP upstairs, but could not get these routers to consistently work. Tivo's kept dropping off and would not communicate with one another. Picked up the ER-X, and everything works now. Speeds are faster also.
